I love shopping at and being a volunteer cashier at the George Street Coop! Everyone here is so nice and has great energy. The manager, John, is an amazing human being to work with and is extremely dedicated to the Coop and its volunteers and members. You learn incredible skills that you can use at any job or volunteer opportunity that relates to cashiering, working with others and supporting a cooperative, community/member based organization. You will also learn more than just how to ring up items, enter UPC codes and answer questions by customers. There are opportunities to read articles on The 7 Cooperative Principles and The Kindest Approaches to Disagreement, while you work through a stuff to-do list on every shift. If you are looking for a meaningful, fun, educational and memorable experience as a volunteer, this is the place. Plus you are helping support a community that relies on the healthy, organic, delicious, vegetarian and vegan foods that the George Street Coop and Café provide.

I love the co-op. Not only is it an amazing little hub of natural organic produce in the middle of the rougher part of New Brunswick, but its most amazing quality is its energy. The energy here is amazing. Sometimes Im having a crap day and visiting the co-op literally lifts my spirits. its the small-business personal feel larger stores like whole foods lack, which, in my opinion, makes the slightly higher prices (depending on what you buy) worth it. To be honest, the prices are reasonable and what you would expect to pay anywhere...this is organic stuff, after all. Become a member!!!! I totally believe in and support this organization. Also, the produce is sort of a gamble but just know they get everything on Wednesday and Friday ; try to come around those times and they should be fully stalked with interesting stuff!!!!!!

I would love to give George Street Co-op a higher score. I am a huge fan of food co-ops. I shopped at co-ops in Olympia, WA, and Portland, OR. I am currently a member of the Park Slope Food Co-op in Brooklyn. So, obviously, I really want to see co-ops succeed. I hope this one does. I am sure it is hard for a co-op to succeed. I excitedly visited the co-op when I was visiting Rutgers. Sadly, there isnt a lot here. There is very limited produce and only a handful of aisles. I hope they are able to build their business and eventually expand. I will definitely do my best to support the co-op so that it can thrive. It does have a way to go, unfortunately.

The store is a little funky, sure. But it offers foods that are not available for miles and miles. I think its worth the extra cost for food that is difficult to get elsewhere, especially for vegetarians and vegans. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly -- and willing to order foods they dont sell. A great place to stock up on varieties of tofu, Vegenaise, and seitan. The store has a wide selection of vegan sandwiches as well as various fillings for making your own sandwiches, salads, etc. There is a nice veggie and fruit area, as well as plenty of grains, nuts, and dried fruits. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Plenty of health aids too.

I was a volunteer here for years around the new millennium and I loved pretty much everything. It does not look like they have very much because most people are members who special order things and shop directly from the walk in cooler upstairs. At that time, this was the only place to get organic produce of all kinds like kale and Swiss chard. I wonder if they still have spinach pies? Those were great fresh every day. They used to have Reiki upstairs one day a week. I really would love if someone could help me get in touch with Adeline to do another Reiki healing session thing. If so message me on google or facebook or email me or something. Thanks.

Expensive compared to CA, NYC, & CO. We were looking to live here, but the cost of groceries is way too high. Having just visited Manhattan, I can say the prices of groceries in this health food store are more expensive than Whole Foods (Union Square location) and independent health food stores in the East Village. This store does have a good variety of options for as small as it is, but the prices are jacked up. Because we are health food junkies, having a good and reasonably priced grocery store is an important factor in where we live. My rating above 2/5 stars is based on prices. The selection would be 3/5 stars.

Ive been a customer and volunteer here since the summer of 2013. The amount of care and camaraderie that is available to anyone who frequents the George St. Co-op is a refreshing change compared to the buy-and-go atmosphere of major supermarkets that has now become the norm. Come to the co-op, start a conversation with any of the volunteers there (or the manager, John), and see how you can become a part of a local cause that genuinely supports the people that support it. You wont be disappointed!

This non-profit co-op always has a wonderful selection of organic fruits and vegetables. (Also locally grown, when available.) The produce, at least, is very reasonably priced compared to other stores that sell organic produce. Bulk foods including herbs, nuts, nut butters, grains, cleaning products are also a bargain. And theres a wonderful little vegan juice bar, separately managed, upstairs.

Love the co-op. Friendly staff, cool atmosphere, great prices on local organic produce and a nice selection of specialty items that can only be found off the beaten path. Ive been shopping there for a few years and enjoy supporting an organization with a vested interest in the communitys health.

Getting fresh produce is aalways a gamble. I dont know how often they get new shipments because Ive pretty much every day of the week either at day or a night and Some times you get nice fresh sturdy produce, sometimes you get produce that is about to rot.

I went in there once or twice and was pretty disappointed. I lived right near it but the selection and prices led me to search farther afield for my natural food needs.

The staff is friendly and they said they would fit their store by next month which would be May 2017. Looking forward to buy many more vegan edibles. Also good for

Dark. Dingy. Dirty. Definitely not a place I would buy my food. The food may be organic, but the energy is toxic.
