To me, this place is the worst Japanese restaurant/sushi bar Ive been to. I dont even know where to start! First, the people are all rude and dont know how to treat customers. Next, the sushi tasted old and not fresh at all. Finally, the thing that was really unbelievable was; The MANAGER came up to my table, asked us how the food was, then said, " You only left a $6 tip, thats less than 10%. Do you think you could leave a little more?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME! (I wasnt even done leaving the tip. Instead we took some money back!) Oh, and the waitress counted the money in front of the table. Real professional. I would highly recommend NOT going there, unless you like being disrespected!

The sushi is good but the service is questionable. The staff doesnt seem to like anyone who is not a regular customer. When I go with my co workers or my boss, who are regulars, the staff bends over backwards. however, when I go by myself, its like an entirely different ball game, not like a notch down or two. Also, I am a young Asian American female and the staff is certainly nicer to my white counterparts than me, which is ironic considering how I try to support Asian businesses. The sushi is good but for the amount that you pay for the food, I just feel that you should be treated nicer.

i had gone to zen 50 or more times and it was great but lately it has had BAD sushi and nothing seemed fresh, I have spent many years in Japan and know what old and bad fish is like, they are experts at discerning good from foul fish. ZEN use to have great fish, great service, great portions and it was a nice place. i am amazed that the last two times it was poor in every category, sad that this has happened and i hope they can turn it around. i will try again in 6 months and report back. Kindest Regards

Very rude and nasty owner. Sits amongst customers at table does her paperwork. Does not know how to treat customers. Very expensive and no longer worth the price paid. She used to have the best in the area but she obviously has lost focus on whats important..: the experience is horrible. Food is mediocre and there are much better places around. She should disconnect herself and hire a manager who will treat customers correctly. Used to go at least once per week.. not anymore ...

My wife and I visited this place a couple of times because its convenient. The food was mediocre at best and gotten a little worse with each visit. The service is very slow and misorgenized. My last and final time there they wouldnt even sit us. The restaurant was half empty but they tried to push us to sit at the bar. After asking for a table they didnt give us one or even a wait time. We left angry and insulted. Same thing happen to a couple that were there before us. We will never go back.

When this place first opened up it was one of the best in the area. Tonight I ate their hard rice and second rate slimy sushi for the last time. I will never go their again. The service isnt great either. When I went in I was wondering why the place was so empty, I guess others have taken notice as well. Why I didnt go to Samurai Sushi right up the street is beyond me. If you want a great place nearby go to samurai sushi in livingston, otherwise you can risk the upset stomach at Zen.

When Zen first opened, it was the best sushi restaurant in the Livingston area. In late 2013, something changed. Orders started being mishandled, repeatedly, even after asking the waiters to read the order back. The quality of the rice went downhill as well, becoming harder, with a slight crunchy texture. Even the service seems less attentive. I dont know what caused the change, but Zen seems to be becoming a mediocre sushi place with a premium price.

I come here once in a while simply because the location is very convenient. Typical sushi & hibachi joint (if you’ve been to one most of them are pretty similar & formulaic) - some rolls are very good, but others are bland. It’s inconsistent depending on who is working – you might get a sushi chef who cares greatly about their work but sometimes the plates come out pretty sloppy & disorganized. Also BYOB, which helps!

Sushi deluxe. Very fresh tasty large portion. Wife had chicken teriyaki, loved it, took home half (shes a lite eater but it was a substantial portion). I tasted it and found it very tasty and tender. Service was good. Fairly busy but not a crush. No wait. Atmosphere is comfortable not elegant. Private booths or table seating with sushi bar if desired.

I’m a long time regular customer. My whole family likes the food here and we leave happy every single time, whether we eat in or get it to go. One time (in 5 years!) when we did have an issue with one of the items we ordered, the staff addresses it promptly. Fresh and delicious food, calm atmosphere, attentive staff.

My family and I have been going out for dinner at Zen for more than 4 years. Every time we go there, we order the Creamy Crab roll and Mango Tango roll. The prices are very fair, especially for the quantity that you get. You can even save $10 off $50, or 10% off by visiting their website for a coupon!

I have tried quite a few sushi places in New York, New Jersey, San Francisco, and Seattle, and Zen is the best. The fish is super fresh and everything is consistently delicious. I love their Godzilla roll.

FRESH sushi. I have eaten here many times and it is always top quality. Excellent selection of specialty rolls at a fair price. Better than whats in NYC.

The manager kicked my friend out of the bathroom and asked us for a high tip.
