Ota-Ya Japanese Restaurant is the best! My wife and I have tried many sushi places and Ota-Ya is the farthest we have traveled for sushi and we live in N.E.Philadelphia. And we try to make it at least once a month to Lambertville NJ. The staff and food is well worth the trip especially when we get tired of the rolls and rice around town so when its time to get our fish on Ota-Ya is the place to go. The Lobster mango salad is highly recommended to start your meal out the way the mango and lobster intermingle along with just a hint of spiciness and the avocado its music to the mouth. Now you can order fish just about anyplace and yea its fresh but the selection of fish at Ota-Ya is far greater than what you get at the local sushi joints around town thats why when we feel like eating fish we order the party boat for three or four did I mention we like sushi Ota-Ya is a must try if you like sushi. Tell them Bruce and Teri from Philadelphia sent ya and you will have a great meal.

When we arrived at the restaurant, it took some time before there was a waitress who came to the table with menu and to take a drink order. The sushi tasted extremely salty and for the price it was just average. Service was horrible. Once the waitress served the food she disappeared and when we wanted to order an additional item off of the menu she was nowhere to be found. We left a tip that was fair for the type of service that we received, but as we were getting ready to leave the restaurant the waitress stopped us and demanded a 15% tip (repeatedly saying that it was a known rule that you are supposed to leave 15% tip for the waitress). There was nowhere that said that and we could understand if it were a large group then yes an added gratuity would be added to the check, but it was two people and the tip that was left was based on our poor dining experience. I am definitely not planning on returning to this restaurant in the near future nor will I go here for sushi.

For each of our childrens birthdays, we take them out for dinner and Ota Ya is always our first choice. Our kids get to chose from every type of eating establishment (fast food through gourmet sit down) and each one (ages 7 - 11) picks Ota Ya for hibachi. We love the private rooms but more importantly we love the quality of food. Any Japanese restaurant can throw a cheesy chef in to entertain the kids while cooking but not many can actually deliver on the quality of food. While I dont eat sushi, my husband and 2 children love it and insist it is the best theyve had in this area.

This is hands down the best sushi in the area. Having lived both in the area and in NYC - I confidently say this is better than most places in Manhattan. The fish is fresh and the unique chef special rolls are like no other. Peter, the head sushi chef, is a genius and incredibly talented. Yes the restaurant itself could use some TLC - but once you begin eating their amazing spicy tuna rolls, valentine rolls, enter the dragon rolls, nemo rolls, new style sashimi - you will not care about anything else. Delicious!

This place is great if you like to eat sub-par sushi in absolute squalor. Next time you go, be sure to check out the filthy carpets to really whet your appetite, and dont forget to indulge in the tasty fume clouds of moldy wet rags, or relax your delicate lady wrists on a specially un-wiped sticky table top, just for you. The gray edamame is particularly suburb, mostly if youre a comedian.

The food here is excellent - Five stars for the food. I took off a star because of a few small negatives (1) The place has a slightly dirty feel and needs to be renovated (2) The downstairs is packed solid. The tables are really close together. (3) Sometimes it is crowded and you have to wait (4) Parking is less than ideal. Again, nothing wrong with the food or the service at the sushi bar.

Hands down this is the best sushi in the area. Always fresh and served at just the right temp. Combined my spouse and I have been eating here for 15 plus years on a weekly basis- and have NEVER had a bad meal. If I were you Id ignore the negative comments and try it your self. The place is not fancy, but it is clean, and the staff are friendly - especially once they get to know you.

fish is very fresh, you cant deny that. Yes, some of their rolls are a bit heavy on the mayo. Hibachi is awful- dirty room and chefs that are not fun and not interested - i think theyve let that business line go. Service is so-so-- theyre nice when they know you. but living here, this is where i get my sushi - very tasty and good quality fish; i usually order take out though.

I have been going here for a very long time. I grew up in New Hope, and my familiy always went here for sushi. It IS THE BEST! the Chirashi is amazing, and they put caramelized onion sauce over the rice. I moved to philadelphia about four years ago, and there is not one place that has the same quality sushi at the price they are selling it at. LOVE

This is where my family goes for a celebration dinner. Its not cheap, and it is fusion sushi, but we love it. We particularly like the spicy tuna pizza, the basil leaf sandwiches (deep fat fried basil taking the place of bread, with a chunk of raw fish in between), and are always experimenting with which rolls we prefer.

Weve been going here for 10 years and are always happy with the sushi - fresh and delicious. we often get the chirashi at lunch because you cannot beat the deal - usually includes tuna tartare, white fish, yellow tail and traditional red tuna, salmon, and many other kinds of fresh fish over rice with sea weed and more

Pricey, but excellent. Hibachi is the real draw here, but many just come for the sushi. If you plan to do hibachi, make sure to call in advance. The sushi bar does serve hibachi dishes, but without the fanfare. I dont eat sushi, but it got top marks from everyone in my party who does.

This is one of our favorite restaurants in town. They prepare some of the best sushi Ive had and the staff are friendly. Be prepared to wait if you dont have reservations (15-40 mins). My wife loves their vegetarian sampler too.

Sushi is always great...best in our area for sure! Weve had sushi in NY, Philly, San Fran etc and I have to admit this little place always rates at the top! Our favorite rolls: Godzilla, Spicy Rock & Valentine!

Best sushi around. Ideal to sit at the bar. Forget about fancy atmosphere. The place need an upgrade but the food is the best I had in the lambertville new hope area
