So me and my boys are always lookin to meet some fine ladies. Friday rolls around Big Dave hits me up, "yo B where we going tonight" "Im in the mood for Mexican and sum coronas...LETS GOOOOO" I reply. So Dave picks me up, Aarons with him riding shotgun, Damien is in the back (not a big deal cause dave whips a navigator). I hop in the back, dap Damien and off we go to sum place called casa maya. Dave always goes there with his aunt, Patrice Walenski (super cool lady), and said theres some fine ladies there and that the food is fireeee, so were all like LETSSSS GOOOO. So we roll up and walk in get seated, and almost instantly some guys comes by and places chips and salsa on our table. He was like a ghost or something cause it happened so fast, we were just like WOAHHH. Best chips and salsa I ever had, bar none. I stayed a week in Cancun for spring break back in 02 and this place puts Cancun aka real Mexican salsa to shame! Also Cancun is dope, I still go back every spring break for the last 15 years, everyone should go once in their life, for sure. Ok, so we put our orders in a few minutes later, Damiens got salsa on his chin and were all just cracking up and roasting each other, like always. Food comes and were in heaven, best cheese enchiladas Ive ever slammed before, Aarons fajitas were straight up cooked by some Mayan god or sumthin because they were no-nonsense mouth watering firrrreeeeee. Ok let me get to the point and wrap this up cause Im typing on my moms old blackberry and my fingers are hurtin real bad. Food was real real great and we had the best time just drinkin ronas and bro-ing out there. We didnt even realize that we didnt meet any fine ladies the whole night cuz the food was just that Mexican magical. 5 stars, be safe, God bless America. Out

Worst service experienced in years. For three dishes, they took 40mins to prepare. During the period, the waitress never came to us once to see if we need more drink or chips. After waiting for more than 30mins, I asked them when our food would come, they said its coming, twice, and the second time was 5 more mins later. You think its because too many people there? No, only one other table with two were there already started eating. Then the food finally came, no apologies, no sorry for the long wait, even no smile on her face anymore. The beef had some part cold even it was on a hot pan. I wanted to mention that but no chance, because the waitress never came back to check if everything was okay, but I heard clearly she checked that with another table. I guess maybe because I asked "excuse me, when will our food come?". I am sure I asked politely and nothing else. And of course the waitress wouldnt say thank you to us when leaving after all that. I just hope I can forget this place after the posting.

We honestly dont know why this place has such great reviews, unless youre a family with lots of noisy kids and you think of it as a break to take your kids here so they can make all the noise they want while you sit at the next table and ignore them. If youre a couple or a small group of adults looking for some nice conversation, you can forget about that here. Youll need a megaphone to talk to each other. Forgetting about the noise levels, the food is just OK. Hacienda in Berkeley Heights is much better (and quieter!). Also, the wait times are ridiculous here considering the noise levels and food. The only plus is that the decorations are charming and cozy but unfortunately, we couldnt get past the noise levels to actually appreciate our surroundings. We definitely will not be back. We had high hopes. Sigh...

Worth the drive, and the wait. This is the best Mexican food Ive had in the tristate. Expect authentic Mexican food in an unassuming and quaint environment. The restaurant is dimly lit by strung lights and feels honey and romantic at the same time. BYOB. Perfect for a date night or small group. Over 4 expect a very long wait as they will have to work hard to accommodate that large of a group. Tamales and fajitas, flan, and the chips and salsa they bring out at the start are my favorites.

Has gone downhill over the years. While we love the carnitas, the portion size has shrunk by half. The chips and salsa are good. Taquitos are dry and bland, fajitas are greasy. Booths are hard and uncomfortable, and the servers stare at you while you eat. We prefer Hacienda in Gillette. Identical menu and food is far better and portions are decent.

I had the chicken mole. It was okay. The chicken was a bit dry, but the mole sauce was pretty good. The guacamole and rice that accompanied it was good as well. Parking isnt great. I only noticed room for 4 cars. We were lucky to get a spot during lunch time, but the place wasnt very busy at the time. Its also very small. It was really just okay.

Went there this weekend. We went early in the afternoon, we were the only people there. The food didnt have a good taste. Too bland and no way mexican food. You are paying for microwave food. Dont come here if you are trying to eat mexican food because this is no where close.

Nice Mexican food in a small restaurant run by nice people. Some of the servers were so chill and fun too. Food is nice, with quite good portions for the price.Been there few times and always left eating more food than planned. Nice local spot for a dinner date.

I was so disappointed the last time I went! The place was packed so I think our order just was left behind. I also felt rushed to to turn over the table Normally I love it. The black bean soup and burritos are my general go tos. Its also a plus that it is byob!

If you live in Northern Jersey, get lost and find your way to this traditional Mayan style Mexican. Nothing on the menu will leave you unsatisfied... Great portions, excellent flavor and original execution. Great options for all taste buds.

In all of the categories zagat uses, Don Jose in east hanover nj wins. Don Joses homemade chips beats the out-of-bag chips. The Casa Maya guacamole was watery and the quesadillas were dry with lumps of chicken. We sat in a hole in the wall

The food seems to be prepared in the microwave nothing seem to be autentic mexican food ,you have better food experience by going to taco bell or pancheros . Save your money take it somewhere else

Good news: byob and theyll make you a margarita if you bring tequila. Bad news: EVERYTHING is made in an oil bath - rice, beans, enchiladas - they all have a thick coating of oil.

Chips and salsa are good. No liquor license. The fajitas were pretty good no cheese consider yourself warned. Parking is confusing. Seats are a joke and for midgets.
