Ive been there 2-3 times. The first time, I did not like it; I was there late on a Sunday night, and the wait staff was on break and I felt like they were ignoring us. The food was not bad. I was pleased with the food, though. We both got burgers, and they were very generously-sized. Further, if you want a rarer meat, they will really give it to you. My burger was quite pink and juicy, and it so large and heavy that you could not pick it up. Lettuce, tomato, and an onion ring were included on it. I couldnt finish mine. The included fries were average, but the portion was generous if you are into that. The second time, we went on a Saturday night at around 7 or 8 -- prime time. The service was much better. We were seated right away despite the absolutely packed parking lot, and our orders were taken: turkey with stuffing for me, pot roast for him. As most diners do, they had the soup-salad-dinner-dessert special. I believe Louis skipped his soup, but I got chicken with matza. It was one single, golfball-sided matza with a very plain, cornbread-like flavor. Our salads were quite fresh, though they used large pieces of a tough tomato that was difficult to cut without making a mess. I absolutely loved my entree. Several slices of turkey, 1/8-1/4th an inch thick, were literally fork tender, covering a brick of tasty, meatless stuffing. Gravy was poured all over the dish, and it tasted canned, but it worked here. I also received a small serving of cranberry sauce that improved the Thanksgiving-esque experience. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were uninspired; the potatoes came to us lukewarm, so it was hard to get a handle on whether they were home-made or not. Louis was less-pleased with his entree, because they interpret their pot roast with a slightly sweet tomato base. It was a little Hungarian in that regard. The meat was also exceptionally tender, but the gravy did not have a beef flavor to it so it is a very subjective dish. You either dont mind tomatoes and beef, or you do. We skipped dessert, because, though our dinners came with it, it was the standard jello-pudding-icecream selection, and our waiter didnt make any indication we could trade up to a premium dessert like cake, which you can do at other diners. Though the desserts in their case looked amazing, they were also sweating a bit. Further, dont try the cookies at the counter. As a note, the man at the cash register will ask you what tip you want to leave if you pay with a credit card, so be prepared to both know it and say it out loud.

My employer and I were doing sales calls yesterday and he wanted some soup with a meal so we stopped at the first diner on our route. First time there for either of us. It was 2:30 PM-ish. Waitress was nice but we didnt care to know about her tattoos, her Sign, or anything else she let us know about herself. Still, a pleasant person. I do not like to complain about food or service while in an establishment for fear of retaliation. Boss ordered a lunch special, I ordered an omelet but did not want any of the combos listed under "Tasty and Fluffy Omelets" choices and was told there were "no substitutions"....couldnt omit any ingredients (reminiscent of Jack Nicholson in "Five Easy Pieces"). But, under the "Create Your Own Omelet" portion, I could add whatever ingredients I wanted. Simple...I ordered a simple 3- egg omelet with green peppers, home fries and whole wheat toast/butter on the side. I forgot to say I wanted the Tasty and Fluffy version...I got the flat, dried, overcooked and tasteless version. I wonder if they used Eggbeaters or some other egg substitute. Or maybe the breakfast cook had left, or his wife had left him and took the dog and savings account. Dont know, but whoever was angry at the eggs was also angry with the potatoes. Paper thin somethings reminding me of the Potatoes Au Gratin my Mom used to make. Without any taste. Oh, the whole wheat toast was excellent, actually, the best toast I ever had at a diner. Seriously. If you ever have a hankering for great whole wheat toast I highly recommend this eatery. And, you wont have to ask them to hold the chicken, the mayo or anything else. Lastly, and this is for any eatery establishment that sells coffee. Of the World population, 75% are lactose intolerant...cant digest milk fat which causes..."issues". 25% of the U.S. population is also lactose intolerant, with higher percentages seen in different ethnic groups. That said,it is refreshing to find non-dairy creamers offered in diners and other mainstream coffee shops. Unfortunately, this was not one of those places.

like most visitors I wish I could give ZERO star. those 3 stars and 5 stars or good reviews must have been paid for, amazingly by the cheap owners. I visited this place with a co worker for a late breakfast. we sat at the counter. i asked for my coffee in a paper cup with lid because when done with my food, I will take my coffee with me. the waitress said that she cannot do that. Why? thats the rule. I polity asked if they can bend the rule a bit. she said no in a very nasty way. after a minute my co worker and I decided to just leave. why spend our money in a place where people are so rude and not customer friendly. I think they see everyone they way they are. on my way out I asked the manager why I could not get a paper cup and I got the same RUDE reply as the waitress, its the rule, He said. Whos rule are they talking about? I concluded that its best to advise nice people of NJ to stay away from this RESTAURANT FROM HELL. Hope no one ever experiences the shortest conversation with those fouls from wherever...Hell, perhaps.

The quintessential New Jersey diner. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Food was top notch with a great selection of desserts big enough to share. Portions were generous and well prepared. Decor was kitschy but organic and authentic. My server told me that the diner had been there for decades and rebuilt twice through three sets of owners. The current building is a modern take on Art Deco that works without being over the top or pretentious. Great atmosphere for dates, hanging out with friends or family, or a late meal if one is a tired business traveler like me.

I was just there for lunch and they sat me at a table that had ants everywhere, we ordered the food and when it came my burger was missing the cole slaw and the onion rings and the meatloaf sandwich my boyfriend ordered looked like dog food, the waitress told us she didnt bring the cole slaw because she thought I wasnt gonna eat it, she never bought us napkins and we only saw her 3 times out of all the time we were there. I will never go there to eat again and I definitely wont recommend it to anyone

This place has awesome food and huge portions for the prices. We had the Shrimp Scampi and the Chicken Francaise and the portions were huge, each meal included a soup, salad, dessert and a drink. When we stopped by I was expecting more like a fast food burger place instead of a full menu restaurant. The staff is also very attentive and on top of everything, We never had to ask for more water or coffee because she just kept filling it up. I was pleasantly surprised and cant wait to go back.
