Last year I was driving down I-78, something I had never done before since I live in South Jersey and only come through the area for work and I saw what looked like a possibly good place to eat. The reason for this assumption was that it reminded me of a little restaurant that used to be in Cherry Hill called The Victorian Station or something close to that. It also featured an old railroad car or 2 that you would sit in to eat your meal. Unfortunately after having only enjoyed it 3 or 4 times including at least one of our wedding anniversaries possibly 2, it closed. When I saw the Clinton Station Diner I knew that if I ever had an opportunity to stop in for a meal and see if they were even close to being a place I would like to take someone on a special occasion that I would make sure I left myself enough time to do that. That opportunity came this week so I took it although it was during breakfast and I was really hoping to have a regular meal since most places have pretty much the same thing for breakfast as all the other places out there. Upon arriving the first thing I noticed was a sign saying "No Truck Parking", something that if here with a truck I would like to know before arriving so I could just go elsewhere. The next thing I noticed was that the sidewalk in front of the main entrance was covered with flattened chewing gum, not a pretty sight but more reflective of the customers the diner attracts rather than the diner itself. The next item was that the interior of the building had a generally nice look to it, and place that you could be comfortable eating in, that is until they seat you at a table. The young lady who took me left so quickly that I was not able to ask for a different one that wasnt so cramped, a characteristic of a lot of places that when you dine alone they have a habit of seating you at a tiny little kid sized table not something a 6 foot 2 man would be comfortable sitting at especially with all the junk they have on the table. Fortunately the waiter was able to move me and he was also very attentive to taking care of getting me my meal quickly. The meal itself is another story that I will basically just say if in the area and need a non-breakfast meal I would give them another chance.

I rarely take time to do reviews, but this is necessary. I went in to the diner by myself on a Saturday around 2:30pm. It was fairly crowded, but when I entered a lady sitting at the bar area goes "how many?". There was no way of telling this women worked at the diner by her appearance. I then was seated in the rail car which was neat, but freezing cold. I decided to get the salad bar (which I should have looked at first), when I got to the salad bar I found tongs from from the different items all over, nothing labeled, the counter dirty, and food looking like it had just been sitting out the entire day, just a complete mess. I got a few things and sat back down. Immediately as I began eating I could tell it was going to be terrible. Items in the salad that were supposed to be cold were warm, the thousand Island dressing could be McDonalds big Mac sauce, and the croutons were soggy, it was horrible. I didnt eat any more, and kindly asked my waitress for the check (she was nice, but seemed lost). When I went to pay I ordered a chocolate chip cookie a to go and my total came to $14.00 with a $2.00 tip. I then took the cookie and ate it in the car to get away from the freezing cold interior. The cookie was just as bad as the rest of the food, rock solid with absolutely no taste whatsoever. I am now physically sick from this food and would highly recommend not going to this overpriced crap show.

Im assuming it was the manager who seated us since we never saw him again, but he seemed very rude; my friends and I walked and waited patiently for someone to seat us, this man just bluntly asked how many people repeated and lead us to a booth where he just dumped the menus and walked off. Our waitress was nice and a little lost; possibly new; she was alright. The food is partly what is wrong with this place, 3 members of my party asked for medium rare to medium cooked burgers; all the burgers came out dry and blatantly well done. Food on every plate seemed disheveled, bland, and tasteless. Cleanliness is another issue, one of my friends asked for a refill on her water and received a glass that had some red flake floating in the drink; looked like a piece of waste from the dish washer. After this point, my party of four had essentially lost our appetite. The final straw (this doesnt really have much to do with the business itself) was the glares my friends and I received from other patrons; we noticed an elderly Caucasian woman walk in and glance at us. Her demeanor went from pleasant to almost appalled that we were allowed seating. We were a group of mixed ethnicities; two Spanish, one Caucasian, and myself, Asian. All in all, seems pleasant from the outside, downright unwelcoming atmosphere and sub-quality meal.

We were seated quickly it was just before 4:30, still early for dinner. Our waitress was new. After taking our orders, she told us she would bring us some bread. Two of the four of us had soup included with our meals and we also ordered an appetizer. We waited about 15 minutes for two cups of soup. Then she realized she forgot to give us our bread. She brought that out to us a few minutes later. We asked if our appetizer was ready and you could tell she totally forgot. Came back a few minutes later and said it would be out shortly that there was a large take out order and they hadnt gotten to our appetizer....... We told her if our food was ready to bring out the appetizer with the food. She told us that our food was not ready and the appetizer would be right out. Finally got our appetizer. We had to ask for small plates. The food came out about 10 minutes after that and everyones meal was COLD. Ice cold.... When we went up to the pay the man at the register never asked us how everything was because we were going to tell him it wasnt good! He never asked and he was stand offish. Pretty rude. It was a horrible experience to say the least. Go the Washington diner on route 57. Dont waste your time at the Clinton Station Diner.

A group of 5 of us went there on New Years Day & we sat at the bar to wait for a table which we expected since the line was out the door. It did not seem like they had enough people working. No one ever greeted us at the bar & we had to request someone for service. Bloody Mary we ordered was just ok. Once we were seated we all ordered breakfast items & it took a very long time to get our food. Once we finally received our food, 3 of the 4 meals delivered were cold, the toast was barely buttered and the 5th meal was never brought out. We very gracious & apologetic when we sent our food back & we never saw our waitress again, nor did she apologize for the food. When we got our reheated food (delivered by a different waitress) the second time they were hot but not made correctly. One of the redone dishes was put on the original dirty plate, my home fries were barely cooked (I requested well done) and the 1 meal that was never brought in the first place (Eggs Benedict) was missing the hollandaise sauce. Maybe just an off day because of the volume of people but it will be a long time before I go there again.
