UPDATE (May 2016): The owners asked that I update my review. After I left my initial review, the owners called me (Im not clear on how they found my contact information but one of the owners responded, "I was a private-eye in a past life.") They defended their issues (the doors are broken because they were expensive to fix, they closed early because there werent enough customers, etc.). They asked that I understand their issues and invited me to return and give them another chance. I eventually made my way back and have made a handful of purchases since. Ive also left the store empty handed several times because items (drinks, bread) were out-of-stock. I visited the store most recently this month and the owners rather rudely announced Id entered the store ("Oh, its him, he came back! Its Tommy West!") shouting about me by name. They then asked that I update my review. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Suffers from "the only thing in the area" syndrome. A change in ownership has twisted this place drastically making everything inconsistent. Everything. From hours of operations (youll find them closed when they should be open), prices at the register that dont match whats advertised, stale "fresh bakery" items and broken fixtures (the custom refrigerator doors need some repair). What was once a nice, local spot that set a standard for modern-country living has transformed into an eye-roll-inducing "convenience" store.

I stumbled upon the River Market while I was passing through town. Such a very quaint and clean country store. You can tell the owners really put all their efforts into keeping the staff and customers happy. This place had everything, great selection, amazing and friendly staff, free wi-fi and amazing coffee! Definitely recommend trying the River Mud blend. It gives Starbucks a run for their money. Everything was in tip top shape. On my first visit I couldnt find what I was looking for and asked a woman from the store if she could help me. It turned out she was the owner! She was an absolute delight. So friendly and kind and she even went out of her way to show me where to find what I was looking for. She even offered some great places to visit in the area as well in addition to places in NYC I should definitely visit during my stay. Not sure what the negative review was about below. You can please everyone I guess. If you are in the area, this is THE place to visit for a great cup of Joe, wi-fi and groceries.

I love the food, the display, the environment, owners are so friendly, staff is very professional, food is excellent, this is what shows what hard work is and how committed you are in owning a good restaurant that really cares for us the "guests". They have from jam to jars to books to food. I highly recommend it if you are traveling or live around the area, so cool to bring your friends and family over. My favorite during the summer is the buying steak, ice cream and beer!! Go River Market !!

What a welcomed surprise! I stopped for a cup of coffee with my toddler and husband on our way for a family weekend, and wound up having a scone with my coffee, a few toys and snacks to keep my toddler happy, and my husband picked up some live bait! Had no idea this market was so awesome. And the food was good! And the coffee was perfect! Lovely setting. Lovely environment, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Ive saved it on my GPS for the next time we head this way.

Stayed at a campground in the area last weekend. The camp staff recommended this place, awesome choice! Store had free wifi which we couldnt find anywhere else, the owners let us use their landline to make a personal call to my family at the campground, (take note there is no AT&T cell service in the area at all). Got a few great hogies before heading down the river which came with free soda and chips, really nice touch. The subs were massive, nice place!

Stopped in this store on the way out of town, what a lovely place. Its literally like stepping back in time. Such a cute general store and personal staff to match. We had some soft serve custard that was probably the best ive had in years (not good for my hips) but really tasty! The shop also has cute little gifts and toys for my kids which occupied them on the drive home. Highly recommended would go out of my way to stop here again.

Well in my opinion River Market is one of the great country store of Barryville. Environment is so good that I felt like I was stepping back in time. Kind of feels like an old general store. Coffee was awesome, nice selection of baked goods. My hubby got a chai tea. We each had a tasty lunch wrap, unique menu items. I was able to pick up a gift for my house hosts on the way out of town. Definitely stop by if youre in the area.

Im a local and shop here often, they have a great product selection, I can find items that I cant normally find at a larger store. The cozy feeling is great, the service and staff are extremely welcoming and its nice to be greeted personally when I visit. You can really feel the attention to every detail in every aspect as you walk in. There is always something different and delicious on the bakery table! Must visit!

Terrific breakfast options for a vegetarian. Full menu of wraps and paninis that you would not expect to find in the middle of nowhere. I ordered the Have a Heart wrap which contained spinach and egg whites. They had no problem with me adding a few additional ingredients that were not on the menu or in the wrap and went out of their way to accommodate me. Food was fresh and delicious.

I was on my way up to my kids visiting day at camp and stopped into the store. I was truly amazed - the staff was extremely friendly, the decor and displays were outstanding and clean, the selection was excellent, the food delicious and it was really busy. The sign of a fantastic and successful store. This will definitely be a place I visit again.

Cool little country store that basically had everything, toys, camp stuff -which we needed. Coffee to go was pretty awesome! The old timey feel was cool, we just kind of hung out for about an hour while it was raining, there was enough for us to browse. Got a decent sandwich to go, free pickle and a coke was a nice touch.

Terrible atmosphere, cameras watching you everywhere. Food is awful and every time i eat it, it makes my stomach turn over. Coffee is also terrible, "river mud" is an appropriate name for sure. NEVER come here. Change in ownership has completely ruined it, prices are also AWFUL. Old owners were much better.

This is a charming little spot on the Delaware river with a great breakfast options. They make scrumptious pies and baked goods. Sometimes when Ive stopped in, theyve had hot cinnamon buns on the counter - I beg them to let me buy them before theyre iced (they are soooo good warm)!! Very cute place!
