Allow me to preface this review by saying that the magical wonderment of this restaurant was made 10 times better by the fact that I had just been treated awfully at the nearby sushi restaurant Oh Yoko and was still shell-shocked. My girlfriend and my little sister, who were with me, were also still in horror at the treatment we received at Oh Yoko. Then we arrived at Mikado and it was like we had suffered through Sushi Restaurant Hell and thus been finally allowed to arrive in Sushi Restaurant Heaven. The restaurant as a whole is very pretty. It has a nice atmosphere, beautiful plants outside, a nice outdoor sitting area, and most importantly, very very nice people working there. As soon as we walked in and asked to sit outside, the employees there were happy to help us and also concerned for our comfort, warning us that we might be cold. Once we were seated outside, our waitress Helen (ask for Helen if you go, she is lovely!) brought over rice noodles for the table and they were delicious. We ordered soon after and when I told Helen about all of our food allergy concerns (my sister and I both have serious food allergies, my girlfriend avoids them also for my safety), she was helpful, attentive, and patient. This is all in stark contrast to our experience at Oh Yoko where we were yelled at just for trying to find food that wouldnt send me to the hospital and told that we couldnt eat at Japanese restaurants! Our food was served to us very quickly and we hardly had to wait at all. Mine was actually brought out with soy sauce on it (soy is one of my allergens) but Helen took one look at the plate and quickly apologized and took it away, bringing back a new soy-free order almost immediately. Everything was delicious and tasted extremely fresh, and it was all beautifully presented - and the prices here are extremely good for such a nice atmosphere along with such good food. When we had finished, Helen brought out hot towels for our hands and slices of pineapple for us. We all literally couldnt stop talking about how nice everything was. We will definitely be visiting Mikado again in the future, and definitely asking for Helen again as well! I have no idea why this restaurant doesnt have a higher rating because its the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to in NJ.

The food is delicious and filling. The prices are a bit high, but the presentation and taste are both so amazing we bit the bullet and enjoyed ourselves. We frequented it every other month for a year. The only real complaint I have is the server attitude -- all the waitresses we had (we experienced around 4) seemed surly. The waiters (we met 2) seemed friendly enough, as well as the host and hostess, so I cant complain that EVERYONE was grouchy. It just seemed like the waitresses didnt want to be there and didnt care about the patrons experience beyond getting you your food. (The service was prompt, however.) Theres a smaller, friendlier, better-decorated, and more intimate local sushi place called Oh Yoko! if you prefer a "smaller establishment" atmosphere. Mikado has fresh flowers on the table and a less intimate yet more sophisticated air, but in the end I think we preferred Oh Yoko!

I was around cherry hill mall and craving for sushi so I decided to come here with my family. I am a tuna fan so I started off with the hot pepper tuna.. Definitely recommend it. The tuna is delicious. I ordered the spicy salmon roll, Scott roll (shrimp tempura with spicy tuna), Amanda roll (spicy tuna, salmon), and dragon roll. The portion size for the sushi here is a lot bigger than the ones I usually have in Philly. Servers here are very nice. They come back every time to check on us to see if we needed anything. They even changed our plates after our appetizer. There is seats outside where you can enjoy the outdoors while eating sushi. Definitely recommend coming here for sushi. A little bit pricey but still decent.

I always heard good things about Mikado, but let me tell you what its not all that hype. Fact one hes in big trouble, but I will not go there because I dont have serious facts on the case only some articles from the newspaper. Fact two everyone there is rude and his rolls are very very expensive compare with everyone else.. yokohama megu or akira, compare with the surrounding sushi restaurnats they are the most expensive. Why is everything there is covered with sauce and fish is not all that good. I should know I work in the fishing industry

The service was great and the food was very authentic. Our waiter, Michael, really turned the night around with friendly and quick service. (My wife and I ended up going here after we showed up at Benihanas for our reservation. The host was missing in action for 12 minutes and the rest of the staff were hiding behind the bar. So we just left.) This place is is BYOB, but whatever. The service more than made up for that. The have just about any kind of sushi or sashimi you could want.

Great decor and fantastic service along with really fresh fish and oysters setup the potential for a great experience. Execution of sushi is a very modern interpretation with lots of very busy and fancy looking rolls drowning in lots of different sauces. Sushi should be eaten in 1 piece, it shouldnt need a knife. Fish this fresh should be respected, it doesnt need lots of creamy sauces and distractions...steer towards the sashimi.

This was one of the best dining experiences Ive ever had. Ive eaten at places in DC that were way more expensive and had a worse experience. Vegetable hibachi, Nicole Roll, live scallop sushi. Waiter gave me sweet and sour noodles before I ate and pineapple slices afterwards. My server was Michael and he was excellent.

The food is outstanding at Mikado. The owner is friendly and seems to be always present. Good old-fashioned business style. This has been our go-to place for sushi and special-occasion dinners for years. Try the Tuna Dumpling appetizer. Its terrific.

this place is awesome. consistently good sushi at a really great price. the new atmosphere is leaps and abounds above what it used to be. owner is really friendly and always remembers you. Way better than the strangely-hyped Sagami.

Went there on a Monday night for Hibachi. The floor was covered in food, the table was sticky, and the plates had food bits stuck to them. It was 6 pm and the place was empty. We walked out and went to Benihanas.
