Our experience was insulting! Not only did the waiter lie to our face but the owner did as well! We drove from Great Falls to have dinner for our anniversary. My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the special. A couple was seated next to us and put in their order after us, they wanted 2 prime rib dinners but the waiter told them he needed to check with the kitchen to see if they still had prime rib left. He came back and told them that he "Hooked them up" the man asked if it was 1 piece cut in half, the waiter assured him it was two cuts of prime rib. The waiter then turned to my husband and handed him a menu and said they were all out of prime rib! I told him that I just heard what he said to the very next table! He said oh no they are not getting prime rib we are all sold out. So my husband ordered a steak. Our food came and it was not bad, but is was not great it was okay. I then saw the couple next to us get Two prime rib dinners brought to their table!! We were shocked. My husband confronted the waiter, and he didnt want to listen to what my husband wanted to say so he said he was sending the manager. The owner came and started right away defending the waiter and tried to explain it was the kitchen at fault and that the couple ordered prime rib sandwiches not dinners and our order was taken by the kitchen after the other table. So I told him that mistakes happen and we could understand, but why did the waiter have to lie? I told him what happened and my husband asked why didnt we see prime rib sandwich on the menu? The owner said it is on the menu.( I checked the menu online and sure enough, he lied as well! it is not on the menu huh!) So after hearing that the waiter lied he said he was so sorry and it was not right and that he wanted to make up for what happened. He said he wanted us to come back and give his place another try and make sure my husband got the prime rib so he gave us a gift card for a whopping $25! Thats not even enough for the gas to drive to Helena from Great Falls! We didnt ask for a discount or a free meal in fact we didnt even ask for an apology all we wanted was the truth, but that takes integrity something that the owner and staff of the Silver Star do not have. So no I do not recommend this place... the prices are much higher than the quality. Take your hard earned money and go to Spuds.... better food, service, and prices

I would rate the food but unfortunately (or fortunately) we didnt make it that far. We came for a late lunch and sat in the bar area. It was fairly quiet with only a couple other tables occupied. The bartender quickly came over and washed down a seemingly already clean table then left without taking our drink order or even bringing us water. Two servers were buzzing around and eventually one came to the table, brought us menus, and took our drink order. Nothing too difficult: two waters, an iced tea, and a soda. Then the waiting started. She cruised by several times never bringing us anything. I even tried to flag her down once so we could place our food order. The manager also came through the bar several times but never made eye contact with our table, occupied by his cell phone, or a table of what seemed to be off-duty employees sitting near the bar. Eventually we got up and walked out without any notice of the server or manager. Wont go back.

i met a date here for dinner last night. the server was very attentive and polite. i agreed to the special which was a 16 ounce rib eye steak, brussel sprouts with duck, and some sliced potatoes, and came with a salad. i was STUNNED this morning when i looked at my reciept and saw that i was billed $55 (!!!) for "the SPECIAL". i felt betrayed, and decieved. i have never paid $55 for ANY STEAK DINNER IN MY LIFE!!! i feel that i should have been told the price of the "SPECIAL" when it was offered to me, as it was not written on the menu. the "SPECIAL" seemed to be priced $20 HIGHER than most of the other dinners on the menu. the worst of this was when i wanted to eat the remaing portion of my "16 ounce steak" for lunch today and discovered that fully 1 / 2 of my "SPECIAL" rib eye was fat, gristle, and un chewable sinew... never again will i eat here, and never will i recomend this restsurant to ANYONE. i feel like i got ROBBED.

The ambiance, service,& wine recommendations were phenomenal. However, thats were it ends... ...3 of the 4 meals were not prepared or presented well. The pasta was fine--it was the least expensive meal. The scallops were cold and the texture felt "raw". I ate 1 of the 4 on my plate; sadly [or not] my dogs received the rest. The 2 steak dinners found the steaks were not cooked per request. The presentation of my husbands meal [inc steak] was not pleasing...steamed kale looked terrible...it looked like green slime. I do enjoy trying a new restaurant. This one was rated as the best steak house in Helena, MT. I would have to disagree--if we were not going to be late for a movie, I would have certainly said something to a manager. This review still would have been written.

We took seven out-of -town guests to what we thought was the best steakhouse in this area, and were very disappointed. One of the steak orders came out very tough and cold. We asked the waitress to take it back. They apparently put it in the microwave to warm, and returned lukewarm. Another order was a ribsteak which was over half fat. Neither steak was very edible. They offered a glass of wine to compensate for the steaks we could not eat. Needless to say, with the bill being $300+ and the inferior food presentation, we wont be going back, or recommending this restaurant to anyone.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Im from New Hampshire and was in Montana for a elk hunt. It was everything that I had hoped for. Including the last night as we were flying out of Helena. I wanted a great Mid-western steak, our cab driver recommended the Silver Star Steak Company. I can honestly say, there is no way that a steak from the northeast can compare to a steak from the Helena, Montana, Silver Star Steak Company. I plan to go back and will not hesitate to recommend this fine establishment to any of my friends to enjoy a truly great steak at this fine establishment.

I had to wait over a half hour for my dessert while the guy next to me received his hamburger and fries in less time. In order to receive good service at the Silver Star you have to be one of the "in crowd" or they really dont care about your money. I dont appreciate this kind of service and will give allowances for mistakes but this neglect on the bartenders end. Sham on them! The costumer comes first not counting money out of the tip jar. Servers or bartenders should never count tips in front of patrons. I doubt Ill ever go back in... it is to bad, the food is decent.
