I love good food and since we moved to a small town near KC weve been going to the city at least every other weekend to try something new or go back to one of our favorites. Kin Lin is one that we love to visit frequently, especially after a long day of shopping at the Plaza and its not a weekend afternoon (we always go to Bo Lings for their dim sum during this time). Not only is the food delicious the price is very good too -- very student friendly since the restaurant is right next to UMKC. Service might not be top notch. Theyre quick but sometimes the person helping you doesnt speak a whole lot of clear English but they try so hard and are very friendly. They have a small and large option for many of the dishes. I am a hearty eater and I always get the small and its just perfect with a little bit of leftover. I love the fried rice there, so very good, and for less than $6 its a great bargain. My husbands favorite is the Generals Tso and the Chicken Veggie dish. Hed order the large and have plenty leftover to take to work the next day. On our last dinner visit we spent a little over $20 for two adults and a toddler and we had friend rice, chicken veggie, two soups, boiled dumplings, and two hot teas. YUM! They have lunch specials too and the prices are even better. The restaurant has just finished renovating and the place is a bit nicer and definitely larger. Yes, looking at the restaurant you wont think much of it, its clean but it just looks small from the outside and really nothing spectacular, but its really cozy. I also feel good when I eat there. I love eating in places where there are many students and staff/faculty members of the university amongst other guests. It just always reminded me of the fun young days when I was in college. I am half Chinese, I know good (Chinese) food, if you want good affordable Chinese food, stop by Kin Lin!

Terrible service, terrible delivery - $17 minimum!! Are you kidding? Also, staff are/were very offensive - called me "racist" when I said the minimum order of $17 is "ridiculous" - seriously? (They recently raised the price from $12 so that means the average single person can never get delivery.) Even called me back to tell me they didnt appreciate being called racist! What...because Im white and she obviously is? Give me a break! Anyway the food isnt that good, and people who say it is havent had any real experience eating chinese food - all a bunch of 18-something year olds - college students that will eat anything thats not tied down! Seriously! (I used to be one so I know.) If you have a little life and/or dining experience, trust me, look elsewhere. I have used them for about 2 yrs for delivery only, and until now I could never get someone on the phone that could speak or understand English so struggled and just put up with wrong orders that they would always refuse to make right by-the-way. But hey! - it was fast, cheap, and easy, right? Well now apparently they have someone answering the phone that is or at least sounds caucasion (perfect English at least) - and she has a massive chip on her shoulder/s. They were rude before when they couldnt understand you, but now its positively offensive! Save yourself the time, frustration and trouble. There are lots of good chinese restaurants in KC: Kin Lins isnt one. If youre looking for reviews on where to go, look for one where the reviews arent stacked with a bunch of hungry college students! I know I will never do business with them again!

I use to order from here on a regular basis. even though their food was highly priced I ordered probably 30 plus times, I have no problem paying more for what I like . I never complained because I hardly had an issue, and when I encountered my first problem I ignored it. I ordered Mushu chicken and they forgot the pancakes and hoisen sauce. so when I ordered the next time I told them th at I wanted Mushu but please dont forget the pancakes. when the food got here I was disappointed to see no pancakes and sauce. so I called in my first complaint, the lady tried to tell me that she told me on the phone they d ont give pancakes, I couldnt understand her through her accent and normally its somebody who speaks clear English who takes the orders. I asked for a replacement meal or a free meal next time and she refused, I wasnt even trying to get my money back . who wants Mushu with no pancakes or sauce. I always tip well and spent 30 to 50 dollars on every order. Kinlin, you have missed out on at least four orders for me now. and although I like your food I will never order again. your customer service sucks just like your Mushu . by not replacing an 8 dollar meal , you have lost a hundred to $200 and every week it is more. Ive been a couple of times, separated by a few months between. Finances say I eat rice and beans at home, so when I go out, its special. I was brought there by an friend, and given their palate (but hey, "free" meal!), I was expecting yet another version of the awful Americanized Chinese food that Ive had here in Kansas City. Sure, they have that crap on their menu - theyd probably go out of business if they didnt, given the quality of food that people here prefer to shovel into their gaping maws, but they also have actual Chinese dishes on the menu. Its nothing like what I got in Shanghai, San Francisco, or Boston, but for KC and at the price they charge you, its da kine. Dont order anything sweet - youll get Diabetes, ya lug. Stick to the classics, such as twice-cooked pork or anything with tofu in it. The staff is very friendly (the hispanic dude perhaps a little too friendly/presumptuous), dinner comes quickly, and theres off-street parking.

Kin Lin has been by the UMKC for over 20 ages, They have great food and always welling to serve with a smile on their faces. They have really cheap lunch specials that is between $5.00- $5.45. My favorite lunch item is the Curry Chicken and the Chicken Shirmp Hunan. The curry chicken has really awesome spicy curry sauce with these french frise looking potatos, onions, and carrots although I usually get it with chicken and the potatos. Those french fries potatos are my favorite it goes well with the sauce!!! THe hunan brown sauce is excellent too, it sure beats all the Chinese resturant around the KCMO areas. My favorite dinner food would have to be the crispy spicy chicken much better than the average general taos chicken. I highly recondmand the place! Its totally worth every peny!! THe only down side is the seating! I wish they had more seats cause I always have to wait on a table! But good food regardless!

Service was horrible! Waiter was very curt and impatient. Brought out 3/4 of a glass of water and hovered until I ordered the Kin Lin Chicken lunch special. Food came out fast, but didnt taste like I thought the dish had before...it was ok, but not right. When I got my check, It was for Spicy Chicken, not the Kin Lin that I ordered, but I didnt realize it until after I had eaten the dish. After the food came out, the waiter filled my water glass once with room temperature water...no ice... then never offered another re-fill even though my glass was empty long before my meal was finished. Ive been here a bunch in the past, but this will likely be my last visit.
