My daughter and a friend visited this nice quaint little cafe this past Saturday. BUT BEWARE of what actually lurks inside the kitchen and inside the mind of the owner. My daughter ordered a salmon salad and within an hour was sick with food poisoning. Being from out of town she was unable to drive the three hour drive back home due to the severity of the food poisoning. She was forced to rent a hotel room for the night and send her friend home. Her husband had to pack up their two kids and drive to K/C the next day to pick her up. Before leaving K/C her husband decided to make a visit to the Classic Cup Cafe to let the manager know what had happened and to see if he would be willing to help with the extra cost of the hotel room, the gas it took for him to travel there, and the cost of the meal. Instead of the manager sympathizing with the events that took place from the meal she ate there, he accused my son in law of being a con artist, scammer, etc. He told my son in law that he had been taken to court for a similar incident and was found innocent. (Of course you would be! The evidence was consumed!) Just the statement alone makes me know there has been problems with food quality control in this restaurant. Needless to say, he did not reimburse them for the meal, let alone the hotel and gas. PLEASE think twice before eating here. You may be one of those who gets a bad meal and gets food poisoning!

I went to this place last night, for the 3rd and final time. My first visit to Classic Cup was marginal at best, we sat outside had some coffee and a bagel. The second time, we went for breakfast in the winter, we were sat infront of the fireplace where it felt as though our faces were melting off, the waitstaff was very rude/arrogant and when we asked for a menu we were only given an insert, so while everyone around us were feasting on what looked like delicious treats we were left to order the most lavish option on our menu, a fruit and cheese platter, and a yogurt. Our third visit was by far the worst, we sat at the bar, where it took 5-8 minutes to even be greated by the bartender and another 5-8 mintues to get our drink. It was not busy so we did not understand the situation, he busily cleaned glasses while we stared at our empty drinks, when we ordered food it was treated like we asked him to carry us both across town on his back in 105 degree weather, and had that not been bad enough, we were tossed a bone (silverware) only after we began eating the worst appetizers ever displayed/made. We had come with the intentions of having a drink at the car, cool off and then sit outside when the sun went down, we left completely uspet we even thought about giving this dump a second chance.

Is there a way to give negative stars here? Ok my wife and I were staying at the Plaza for her birthday weekend (first time on the Plaza). We met a nice older couple while having a beer at ODowds who recommended the Crappy-- I mean Classic Cup for dinner. We got a table right away (should have known then) and sat down. Our waiter was actually very helpful in talking us out of basically everything on the menu except a salad that consisted of canned white beans over a mix of lettuce and an appetizer that was a pile of goat cheese on toasted French bread sitting on a pool of Marinara sauce. We got our check and the bill came to $51.00 for 2 martinis, 2 glasses of wine, our appetizer and a salad that we split. Thanks to our waiter we did not order anything else. To top it all off another waiter spilled some kind of sauce down the back of my shirt and barely apologized, not to mention trying to make me happy. So when you walk down the street and see all the people on the sidewalk who seem to be enjoying themselves, keep on moving. You can eat outside anywhere on the Plaza. This is one of the worst dining out experiences I have ever had, had it not been for our waiter who basically talked us out of dinner, it could have been a lot worse.

My husband and I have went eaten at this place every Sunday morning for the past 3 months and for a while things were great my hushband and I enjoyed going, the service is only ok, the place is very small making the atmosphere very uncomfortable to say the least, but the last couple weeks were the worst when I told the waiter my bacon was not done she said "Do you want it" why yes I enjoy eating raw bacon she took it away not apologizing or anything, ok so the next week my husbands eggs were very runny so he sent it back, again no apology, they bring it back still no apology, we pay then leave the waiter runs behind us asking was the service ok very aggressively I might add bc we did not leave a tip I told her the issue she just said ok, spoke with the manager he apologized but it was not sincere at all. no compensation no trying to fix the situation nothing I love the host but this place will never get another damn dime of my money EVER!!!

From the reviews here, I expected terrible service and amazing food-- I got neither. At worst, they were maybe slightly understaffed, but everyone was incredibly friendly and accessible, and everyone was pitching in to help each other out, which I always like to see (Ive done my fair share of waitressing, and a hostess who helps bus never fails to give me a warm, fuzzy feeling). The food was good, but not stunningly good. I only had soup and a salad, so I managed to escape for under $10 before tip, but if all the food was of the same quality as that simple soup and salad, then those $17-$30 entrees I saw on the menu were definitely overpriced. It felt to me like a good, solid, local diner trying to pass themselves off as a fine restaurant. Dont get me wrong-- a good, solid, local diner is a wonderful thing, but part of the wonderfulness is that theyre reasonably priced.

If youre looking for a Sunday Brunch to end others, this is your spot! We were sent here by a KC native and it was straight up one of the best breakfast experiences weve had in a long time! The place was packed at 11 on a Sunday morning, but worth the wait and things moved surprisingly quickly. The Misses had the bread pudding special with a side of bacon. ATTENTION - THEY HAVE THE BEST BACON WEVE EVER TRIED! I enjoyed the Smoked Turkey Hot Browns and it was nothing short of incredible. Effectively eggs benedict with turkey and some sharp cheddar. One of the few meals recently that found myself chewing longer to enjoy the flavor! The coffee was quite nice and our waiter was excellent - just the right amount of attentive and made some good recommendations! This would be our breakfast spot if we lived in KC.

Has just gone downhill completely. My husband and I have been there twice for dinner - we wont return. We went for our anniversary last Saturday...my husbands Reuben was WAY too rich, he could barely finish it and it hurt his stomach later on. He has also had the gyros once - dry and tasteless, he did not like them either. I had the salmon.... with LITERALLY 4 small cut up pieces of zucchini and two pieces of spinach. I am not kidding, I counted. For $26?! Outrageous! The portion was much more of a lunch portion and like i said, BARELY any veggies. Ridiculous. Been to many other restaurants with much better food and more affordable. The only reason I gave them two stars was bc the service was great.
