I waited a couple of weeks before making this follow-up review so that I might do a little research. My wife and I follow a band and on this particular night we were at Martys Bistro with several other “followers” totaling about 30 people. The tables were flowing with buckets of beer, and the kitchen was busy with orders. My wife and I had the pork chop dinner. As the evening progressed the “owner” gave the waitress the dirty job of being the bearer of bad news in telling the band to pack up; as the owner left the restaurant for the evening. Apparently, the owner felt that the band wasn’t generating enough revenue. This occurred after the majority of the customers had ordered diner and had consumed a fair amount of “drinks”. By the way, after the “owner” left for the evening two additional couples who follow the band came in and one couple ordered a rib-eye steak dinner, not realizing that the band was told that they were not going to get full payment and they should pack up. Well the band continued to play anyway so that these “late comers” could enjoy their dinner. Having done a little research I found out the “owner” is not really the owner but the lessee, and that the real owner has not renewed “her” lease and will take over the business in the coming months. My sources tell me that this behavior has occurred with four or five other bands and these bands now refuse to book with Marty’s. So it appears that the lessee is winding down the business. Yes, I agree the business should have the option of maximizing its profits, but I feel it’s being done a little shady; which is why a number of bands will no longer book with Marty’s. The real owners may find it chore to reestablish a good reputation. [YELP, TRIP ADVISOR, RIVER FRONT TIMES]

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Ive been there twice now. The first time was awful. Our appetizer came out with our food and our salads came after! The chicken livers were DRENCHED in oil, almost as if they took them directly from the fryer to the plate without letting them drain. But they had just opened so I thought maybe they were just a little disorganized and deserved a second chance... big mistake. We went there for breakfast the second time. We shouldve just up and left when the first thing the waitress says to us is, "the high chairs are right over there." And pointed out where WE could get a high chair for my son... Im not an extremely picky person but that rubbed me the wrong way. Also, while we were waiting on our food we watched as more than one person in the dining room got the wrong order, an omen for what was to come. I ordered the southwestern omelet, which is supposed to come with a bunch of veggies (onions, tomatoes. Jalapeños, etc). What I got was a ham and cheese omelet with mushrooms on top? No other veggies. I also ordered a waffle, but the waffle maker was broken so I settled for a pancake. No biggie there, I understand equipment be temperamental. The pancake came out a pale tan color, like it hadnt been cooked long enough, it also tasted funny. My companion ordered an extra side of bacon, which he never received, and a glass of milk with his order, which he also never received despite mentioning it to the waitress more than once. We ended up talking to the manager who comped half our meal. She was polite about it, but we will NEVER go back. Bad food and bad service all around.

If you have ever wondered why Royal Dynasties die out and are replaced, then come to The Ridge. This is the successor to Martys Bistro but that is where the similarities end. The food, while edible, is a shadow of what it once was. There are items which the cooks do a good job preparing but the menu is just going through the motions. Maybe I am just biased...I miss the food, mood, and atmosphere of the original establishment. The Ridge looks like a cafeteria, and unfortunately the food generally tastes that way too. Slingers did a good job keeping the ambiance of Eat Rite...I apologize to those who tried to keep Martys alive, but there is a LOT of work to do over again to even try to replicate a truly wonderful place. Maybe try and start by putting ribs back on the menu. Again, I am sorry to kind of bash The Ridge, but my wife and I have literally had bad service and worse (or completely wrong orders) food 11 of 14 times. Please bear in mind, this is MY personal experience. I am sure others have shared the same as I, just as I am certain that others have had better experiences. My review might be putting the reader off...but I would still encourage you to go and decide for yourself.

Martys Bistro is a great place. Those who criticize it need to get their nose out of the air, and their thumb out of their A--! Go back to some West County, over priced yuppy joint! I have been going to Martys for several years, Started on a St. Pattys Day when the corned beef & cabbage was free. Went to "steak night and was impressed. Not the best steak in town, but the best price. The Fried chicken is awsome! Right up there with the perpetual winner of the RFT poll. Walleye dinner, OMG!!! Three HUGH Walleye fillets, fries, and slaw. The Catfish is fresh caught and you get a mound of nuggets on the plate. The waitresses have all been good to excellent. Cathy even has our drinks ready as soon as she sees us walk in. Let the pretentious high dollar place crowd stay away. Martys Bistro is the best kept secret in the St. Louis area!!!

I came in for the chicken dinner on Wednesday it was great, so we came on Sunday expecting the same experience. Sadly mistaken. Chicken was not good. It must have been fried early or left over and redropped in grease to make it hot. It came out in less than 10 mins, the crust was mostly soggy and gross. I complained about it to waitress, who went in back talked to someone came out to tell me manager said they werent going to accommodate me. Not by replacing my order or offering a discount. Charged me full price for my meal and acted as if I was a jerk for complaining. I ate a chicken leg and mash potatoes charge me for that. I may have given it another chance had the manager had some concerns for my complaint as a paying customer and wanted to make sure I had a better experience.

What kind of response is that from an owner? She admitted she had the chicken leg and wasnt happy with the way it was prepared. I will be sure to scratch this place from my go to list. Your management skills apparently suck & you need to worry a little more about satisfying customers rather than what happened to a chicken leg which is the cheapest part of the chicken. I will never patronize your restaurant based solely on your rude childish remark that you made to a paying customer. Thanks for your rude remark, if you had read my comment thoroughly you would see that I have NEVER been to your restaurant. Another fine example of your customer service skills.
