The Coop is a great little place, with fantastic food and a very friendly staff. The only down side is that I have never gotten take out from The Coop without something being messed up. They accidentally gave away one of my items, they forgot to put in a side, or a sauce. If not for the constant screw ups, The Coop would be the best place to grab food to go in South St. Paul. Ive ordered take out a few more times since this review, and I cannot believe that nothing has changed. The latest being ordering mashed potatoes and gravy for someones potato, and only getting gravy. Is it just me, or is there a serious issue getting what you actually order here? And Im not even ordering during dinner rush. I ordered after 7 PM.

They pretty much cook their chicken to order, so expect a bit of a wait. Its also important to note that there is VERY LITTLE seating (only about 3 tables). So I would definitely going during off-peak hours, or just calling ahead for takeout. But aside from that, the food is really quite good. Its not fancy, and its certainly not "healthy" -- but thats not why you are looking to eat at a fried chicken restaurant, are you? The chicken is flavorful, crispy, and satisfyingly greasy. The slaw is creamy and light. And Im partial to the potato coins. The Coop is a great occasional treat!

Our guests raved about the food catered by The Coop at our wedding. The pulled pork came perfectly seasoned and juicy and had sauce on the side to add. The chicken was crispy. Everything was hot. The cheesy potatoes, baked beans and coleslaw were also very yummy. Several people went for seconds. Thanks for being so accommodating for our vegan and vegetarian guests as well. Would highly recommend!

This was one of my favorites when I lived on 1st ave! Burgers and fries served with a smile, and the staff was nice and sincere. I recommend eating outside on the patio during summer hours with a good friend. Gives off a good downtown diner feel, for a very affordable price! Keep up the great service guys!

I eat here often. My opinion so far The chicken is the best, ribs are second, burger is third, Im not a fan of the fish. As I try other things I will add them to my post. How about beans, Id eat them cold over Cole slaw? My favorite place to eat in the twin cities honestly.

They need to Take the pulled pork off the menu it is the worst one Ive ever had. I had 2 bites and the rest went in the trash. They could make a much better sauce too. The chicken is pretty good . Rosters in St.Paul is just like it but 10 times better!!!

Some of the best Chicken Ive had, any place. Side dishes are great, and theyre super friendly. The burger is average at best, but if you are going to The Coop for chicken, which is the focus of what they do, you wont be disappointed.

The ribs, potato wedges, and coleslaw were good. But the chicken and rolls were excellent!!! This is a quintessential neighborhood small business with a nice friendly staff and a clean atmosphere. Will absolutely go back again!

Rather have KFC got the family 8 piece bucket and 2 pieces of the chicken were so small ot didnt even equal a drum stick. Mashed potatoes are instant breading on chicken was not crunchy and flavorless. For $23 KFC is way better

I have always had a great experience eating at the coop. A great local and family run business. Call and order ahead and your order will be ready when you get there. The staff is always friendly. A great place for comfort food!

Great burger and chicken place. Mostly for carryout but they have a few tables available. Most items are prepared while you wait so calling ahead is a good idea if youre in a hurry. Friendly folks. Support local businesses!

I guess I just had high expectations after hearing about there chicken fingers... but I had them one day and they werent any better than what you would get at the bowling alley--- not that good.

I eat the coop all the time. Its definitely good. Id take the chicken over any fast food chain. the Ribs and burgers are pretty damn good as well. go to DQ if you want a hot dog.

Just not that great chicken, ive had better, The shrimp was fried but had no seasonings. very bland. not worth the price, and the time. It took forever to get two meals out.

Local joint with the best fried (actually broasted) chicken Ive ever tasted. The other options (burgers, ribs, etc.) are all good. The value is superb, and theyre nice.

One day my dad brought home some food from The Coop, and said it was the best chicken he had ever had. So, I went down there a couple days later. He was 100% correct
