After receiving a recommendation to try El Loro from a friend of the family, we thought wed give it a try. It was mid afternoon on a weekday. Chili rellenos (cheese stuffed poblano pepper, breaded with a light, eggy batter and deep fried), and chalupas (fried flour tortilla, boat shaped, and stuffed with meat filling, cheese, and other things), have always been a favorite Mexican dish of mine. Thrilled to find a combination dinner with each of these favorites and a beef burrito besides sounded like the perfect sampler at just shy of $10. Sadly, it did not come with any rice (which I love) or refried beans. So I had to order rice on the side. The service was so-so but at least from a friendly, smiling server. The meal came and I seen the beef burrito (which looked obvious), the chili relleno laid there looking quite flat, and I wondered where the chalupa was? I seen a large pile of shredded lettuce and what looked like a serving of refried beans with some guacamole. I waited and waited to ask the waiter where my chalupa was but I was eager to take a first bite of the chili relleno, so I cut off a piece and tasted it. I couldnt believe it. It tasted OLD... like it had been a leftover in the refrigerator for days. The NORMALLY, crispy coating like every other Mexican restaurant Ive had these at was a soggy mess and not even cooked through.... whitish color and raw on the bottom. So not only did it taste old but was soggy, too. I wondered if they pre-prepare these and just microwave them when ordered? Thats how it tasted. It was nasty. After that, I picked at the plate and discovered under the pile of lettuce, beans and guac, laid a very soggy, limp, corn tortilla buried beneath. Was THIS sorry excuse supposed to be my chalupa?? FINALLY the waiter came to see how we were doing and I asked him if that was indeed a chalupa. And to my disbelief, he claimed it was. And then I told him how old the chili relleno tasted and showed him the soggy dough coating. He said it was an egg batter and I said I knew that but every other place I had those, they were crisp. He tried to say that because they put sauce on top, that made it soggy. Well, the other places Ive had them put sauce, too, but still remains crisp if served right away. And I showed him how undercooked it was. He just shrugged and walked away. We thought perhaps he was going to get a manager or something, but he never returned. I ended up eating half my rice, which was good and about half the beef burrito. That, really, was the only thing eatable on my plate. The waiter returned after a few minutes and I asked him to just take my plate away. He softly said something about making the meal half price. I decided to try an order of flan for desert. Now that was well worth it. It was delicious and I was pleased with that. The waiter was nice but perhaps needs a little more training in customer service. The bill came and we found no charge for my plate of slop. That was the right thing to do. So I doubt I will ever eat there again.

I was really hopeful... I hadnt been to El Loro in over 5 years, even though I live within 10 minutes of one and really enjoyed the food and experience then. I took my boyfriend who is new to the area to the Savage location... I felt awful to make him endure the experience. It took 10 minutes for a waiter to finally STOP at our table, theyd all walk by or stand at the hostess table talking excitedly with each other. It was 5pm, the place was NOT busy. No water, no chips, no waitress. Horribly service. Finally someone noticed my apparent disgust (we were about to leave and go to Pablos in Shakopee) and sent over the waitress. From there, it was only slightly better the remainder of our meal. The Texas margarita (w/ more expensive liqour) was the cheap rail liquor. The food was decent, but the service still horrible... the worst Ive had in a very long time. Usually great tippers, even with sub-par service, the girl hardly deserved the roughly 6% tip... and we will not be back.

I am embarrassed to even award one star. The service was AWFUL, we were given wrong drinks and charged for items not ordered. When I politely addressed our server about the additional charges, our waitress immediately was defensive. I apologized, insisting I wasnt trying to be difficult but as the drink ordered wasnt correct I wasnt comfortable paying "specialty" price-but gladly would pay for what was served and consumed. before finishing my sentence she crumpled up our check and walked away. I dont speak Spanish however my friend dining with me knows a bit, and what she called me/us is so in appropriate it nearly brought me to tears. I will never come here again. I work customer service and understand its not the easiest job, but to be so rude ignorant and mean is inexcusable. I had one amazing experience here before tonight, but after this service I will never return. Shame on our waitress. I hope you have a better day tomorrow and will treat your guests with respect.

Horrible Management. I ordered $45.00 worth of take out. (3 Burritos, One Super Burrito and 1 Cassadia ) I asked them to make the 3 Burritos with Cheese Sauce Only, * No Red Sauce or Tomatos because my wife is Allergic * Get home and There is Tomatos on Everything... Call to see if they could refund me for the 3 Burritos, but she insisted that she would have to remake them and told me they never do refunds... I told her that that wouldnt really work out for me to run all the way back there ( Kids had homework and School in the morning) and the Manager hangs up on me! I called back to see if she really did mean to hang up on me and I get hung up on again! Absolutely worthless. So I Basically just spent 45.00 on 1 Burrito and 1 Cassadia because the other 3 went in the trash. Never going back here again or another El LORO.

Great food at a good price. When we sat down we were greeted quickly and offered chips that were fresh out of the fryer, warm and crisp. The homemade salsa offered with the chips was addicting to say the least. The menu was a bit overwhelming, but I settled on La Favorita. When we ordered Coronas the waitress said, "You want the big one or little one?" I said, "Big one." A huge 24+oz Corona came out. Ive never seen a restaurant serve these, it was awesome! The food came out very quickly, and was quite tasty. While I was not blown away by the flavor, it had a real traditional Mexican taste and was a lot of food for the price.

A nice restaurant with good service. Not expensive. I had a Margarita and a Huevos Rancheros, and the check came to $16 with a 20% tip. (it was happy hour, though). Servers were attentive but didnt hover. They certainly werent busy at a 1PM weekday time, so conversations were easy and private. I would go again. The food was not outstanding, (deduct one star) but I have enjoyed outstanding food at this location before. This was the first time I had ordered Huevos Rancheros, though. I typically would order something more like a chili rellano. (I am vegetarian). Enjoy!
