El Toro is a local favorite of ours! The food is inexpensive, the service is amazingly fast, and their mysterious white chip dip is the best thing ever. Sure, Ive run in to a couple issues...once I got raw chicken on my salad (no, of course not acceptable), once I got the wrong dinner delivered to me, sometimes there can be a bit of a language barrier, sometimes we have to ask for the dessert that comes with the kids meal...but it remains one of our favorite restaurants. Why? The staff is friendly-- we love hearing "Hello Friends!" when we come in...they have followed us through the births of two children (weve been going here for about 6 years now) and have always been attentive to our pregnancies and children...we always run in to someone we know...they handle large groups (8-10) like nothing, weve had to wait for a table maybe twice in all this time, and its just plain delicious food and a nice atmosphere! Check out their lunch specials and giant margaritas! We even used them to provide the food for our large birthday party and we got so much that there is still rice in the freezer 3 months later. Some reviewers give a place one chance, and thats their choice...but you might be missing out!

I ordered a burrito loco without the chorizo or Pico and with enchilada sauce on it, tamale and horchata. I was told they were out of horchata but the waiter was kind enough to make a bit of it for me so thats a big plus. The burrito didnt have cheese on it like its supposed to and the tamale never showed up. Honestly it really upsets me that my first El Toro experience in Shakopee was so amazing and then I get this incorrect mess. The waiter again was really good but the food was just not up to par, especially compared to the Shakopee location, its because of the waiter that this place gets a 3 and not a 2 star review. I wonder if the shrimp in the burrito was handled properly as it had a rather fishy taste and it was over cooked and under seasoned to boot, the whole burrito was just kinda bland and really could have used some salt at least which isnt something that I tend to say. Over all there are better Mexican choices you could make, but if you are ever in Shakopee I recommend trying that El Toro just to see what this place could have been.

This is another in the seemingly unending chain of Mexican restaurants with a slightly altered name (El Azteca, El Loro, El Toro, etc.). The first one of its kind I went to was El Azteca which was superior in all respects; friendly, fast & just plain good food. At El Toro there seemed to be a large seating area, however the wait was extremely long. Nothing I ate was seasoned quite right from the complementary salsa to the chicken enchaladas; they all just tasted off. For whatever reason our waitress decided that we only needed to be checked in on if we waved her down to place our order or to get a drink refill, otherwise we were ignored. Do yourself a favor and make the trip to El Azteca instead. Youll thank me.

I first dined at El Toro a couple of months ago. The food was decent, but the server was not. Last night, my friend and I decided to give the restaurant another chance. Wouldnt you know it, we had the same "delightful" server. Not only was she stiff, rigid, and rude, she didnt bother to check on us during our meal to see how we were doing. The cherry on top of the disaster that is she, she somehow did all of this while not once cracking a smile. The temperature in the place was around 80 degrees. The food was mediocre. When we asked for the check, no one could be bothered to bring it to our table. We ended up walking to the register and asking for the check again. Fail, fail, fail. No 3rd chance will be given.

This place is awesome. I have been coming here for 5 years. My wife and i have date nights here all the time. I really think that Oscar, the restaurant manager, has a great attutude and runs the restaurant with such great leadership! All the servers are friendly. We love the food! Get the queso dip :) The fajitas are ridiculous, get them too. Not to mention service again, but your food will be out very quickly every time. Thanks el toro, you will see us again and again.

I was there a few years ago with a group or 10-11 people. We all ordered different things and every single one of them looked just about the same. Everything was covered in the same cheap Taco Bell Encherito type sauce. Super disappointing. Over priced for stuff that is slightly better than Taco Bell. I was really hoping for real Mexican food. My friends gave it rave reviews but maybe it is because they are Norwegian and have bland palettes and low expectations.

Greeted by a smiling hostess with the smell of warm tortillas in the air, our visit to El Toro made us happy to have a great restaurant so near to home. A menu with wide variety makes for some tough decision making, but we settled on a mix of entrees and were very happy with everything we ordered! The menu has something for almost everyone, the prices are good for the size of portions, and all the staff were helpful and friendly!

We had the Quesadilla Rellena later in the evening on a Friday night. I had never been to El Toro, but, my friend had been before and told me beforehand it wasnt his favorite mexican spot. The chicken inside the quesadilla was canned chicken. No doubt in my mind. The whole thing was bland and Id prefer my own homemade quesadillas. Based on other reviews if I end up going back I would try something else, but, well see.

Just moved to the area i always have a Mexican spot, thai spot and burger spot. This is my Mexican spot I can be a picky eater mainly with lettuce, they had no problem serving my food without it And adding cheese. Not a big fan of sitting in the restaurant so we got it to go it was maybe 10min wait pretty fast in my opinion only reason I didnt give it 5⭐ was because Ive only tried 2 dishes. Excited to try more.

The service was very quick, but the food was mediocre at best. The Pico de Gallo was salty, the Carne Asasa my wife ordered was burned and flavorless, my 4 year olds corn dog was burned! Then I had to argue over the check with the 17 year old kid who was the only one around. I will not be coming back here, despite the location being right next to our favorite ice cream shop

Their Chimichangas are soo good!! Along with the white sauce that comes with the chips and salsa! The service is always fast and friendly, food is always fresh and delicious, and even when its busy the wait for food is never longer than 15 minutes. Been going here for 10+ years now. Ive tried many other Mexican restaurants around the area and none compare to El Toro!! :)

El Toro is the best restaraunt. They always serve freshly cooked food. The portions are the largest of any restaraunt I have been to. The staff are kind, fast, and respectful. You will get a lot of food that you may not be able to finish. I give this five stars out of five based on staff, food, atmosphere, expense, and cleanliness.
