Over the past few years Ive lived in Minneapolis, I have eaten here over and over and over (including dine in, carry out, and bitesquad). I work in a small business myself, so I feel like I notice a lot of things the average customer may not. All I can say is that of all the many restaurants that I am a "regular" at, the Bad Waitress has impressed me to no end with their consistency. I am a person of habit when it comes to food, and all I want is the same thing I always get, and I want it to be the same way. Being able to order here over and over again for years and have my food be exactly what I want each time is something that I dont get at many places. Mind you, I am an "allergy kid" so I am ordering food with "no cheese, gluten free, etc" and all those types of alterations. So getting my food right and delicious every time is freaking rad. In addition, this is a spot I have brought many visitors to eat, and I love knowing that I can "recommend" anything on the menu to first timers even without having had it myself. My friends and family have tried a little bit of everything and are always super happy with what they get. I am also consistently impressed with the kindness of the staff- they are always really nice and super helpful. I have had them go above and beyond several times for me even when they didnt do anything that they needed to "make up" for. I want to point out that I have had this level of service even when I see new (to me) staff- because I know we all think regulars get special treatment! I have had staff here who I have never seen before there give me incredible service as well. I think the prices here are totally on point for the way the place operates. They obviously put thought into who/where they get their food and supplies from, which means you dont get "Dennys" style deals. They arent overcharging- they are just charging what it costs when you put ethics first, and I dont think that is something to be upset about. I shop/dine at a lot of business who try to focus on this so I am used to what the prices should be when you arent taking a wal-mart approach to business. Suggestion to first timers: Its common for businesses in this area to not have parking lots. Just plan extra time to find parking, and you will be fine!

Traveled to Minneapolis to see friends and as vegetarians we struggle to find unique veggie friendly establishments. We stumbled upon the Bad Waitress Diner and we were pleasantly surprised. This is a diner, not a fancy restaurant. You must order your food at the counter, and then the food is delivered to your table.. They have an amazing array of options for the carnivore and the vegan. The staff was very accommodating to my children and when we went back for a second meal we were treated like regular customers. Due to the diverse menu and organic ingredients the prices are higher than you would expect for a diner. Please do not let that chase you away. Recommendations: Veggie Chili, Veggie Burger, Portobello Burger, Super Nova Kale Scramble, and Flying Saucer Omelette. The Spyhouse Caramella Malt is excellent, but if plain is your name the vanilla and strawberry malts are good too. The restaurant changed ownership in the last year (I asked), so disregard negative reviews from over a year old and give this restaurant a second chance.

Bad, as in "Im bad," meaning reeeeeally good. The food is ORGANIC and awesome, the coffee divine, it is family friendly, BEST pancakes in town (no joke), and the staff are real and down to earth. They are not fakey nice just to get tips. Free Wifi, great music from the juke. Cool retro atmosphere, but not cold. On weekends, expect to wait a while for a table and then for the food, as the place is packed (the biggest sign of popularity), so bring your laptop, or a book, or a good friend and chat over a coffee or two while u wait. The wait is worth it, people! You wont be disappointed. I see a lot of complaints here about the service. I have been a regular since they opened, and have always been more than pleased. If something isnt right from the kitchen (happens occasionally everywhere), ask for it to be changed! Big deal! If you dont like ordering at the front, go elsewhere. Simple as that. Most people dont mind. Its a different experience, and kind of old school - in a good way. EAT AT THE BAD WAITRESS!!!

My wife and I just finished a gallery the Martin Luther exhibit at the MIA. It was great. we traveled west on 26th and had never tried The Bad Waitress before so we stopped in. Parking on the street was easy. We waited 10 minutes and the hostess was smiling happy and very accommodating. Its a fun atmosphere with eclectic personalities from tatted up hipsters to business casual. You fill in your own order form and pre pay. The speed of service was decent and the food ok as far as a diner goes. For me its just a one time thing. Had the experience blah blah. But I have my favorites. This didnt make the list. Ordered a tall boy and Carnitas tacos. Average at best. But if youre Hip and need a hangout and wireless connection, by all means go. For me Ill stick with the Northbound Smokehouse and Brewpub in S MN. I like fresh brewed beer and smoked food.

My husband and I go here all the time for a good meal made with quality ingredients. There are few places we can eat out now because they all use a bunch of crap in their food. Not so here. They get a lot of their stuff from the Wedge Co-op. The food is always good, and the wait is never too long (we almost always go in the evening when its slow). We tried once during the Sunday brunch rush...never again! The staff is...interesting. Some are pretty friendly and helpful. Some are aloof. Some can be downright crabby. For the most part, we arent bothered by it because we really like their food. It has definitely got that bratty uptown punkster vibe. Frankly, I find it funny! The portions are big for what you pay. Awesome breakfast, awesome sandwiches, really good coffee. I love the Waitress!

The Bad Waitress is a hip place to go for a decent home cooked meal. The point of the restaurant is that there is no "server". You walk in. choose a seat. menus are on every table. and then the little order slip you write out yourself. walk up to the front of the diner and place and pay for your order. they bring it out to you and youre free to leave when needed. I personally love this new spin on a typical diner. Gave me and my date some alone time to talk and not be bothered by an overly cheerful waitress trying to pry more money out of you. The kitchen played their pop music a little too loud and sang a little off key, but it was all in good fun. I will be going back there sometime soon. Would recommend it to anyone not looking for a typical restaurant.

I think people are too hard on this shop. It isnt everything I ever dreamed of, but it is a damn fine diner. Good, local food and quality coffee. The atmosphere is better than any of the other restaurants on eat street. Plus, if youre nice to your server (which you should be anyway), theyll likely be nicer to you. Ive seen too many people walk in, sit down for less than five minutes, and complain loudly that theyre "waiting to be served." Dont do that. Its rude and unnecessary. If you dont understand the system, ask questions politely. As far as what to avoid: burgers arent too great, cake is dry every time, and just be aware that the drip coffee tends to have grounds in it. Otherwise, everything Ive had was great and the service was friendly.
