The coffee is good, but you can get that anywhere. What I love about Steamship is how creative and flexible the baristas are. Unlike at other cafes, its easy and inexpensive to get something totally customized. My favorite drink is a mocha with vanilla and an extra shot of espresso. If Im not sure what I want I can give them a really vague idea, like "I want something cold, and just a little bit sweet, with caffeine," and theyll make something great every time, no matter the challenge. They also have a lot of options that I never see at other cafes. For example, they have carbonated tea, at least a dozen flavors for craft soda, and I think four non-dairy milk substitutes. Okay, and the last thing, their food menu is amazing and surprisingly expansive.

THE BELOW REVIEWS ARE FAKE, POSTED BY OWNER AFTER THIS BAD REVIEW - THAT IS SAD - I came here to try out a new coffee shop, the pictures on Google maps were very nice and I had high hopes I found another great coffee spot. When I got there I saw a window sticker talking about Magic tournaments and I was immediately turned off. Now Im not saying nerdy stuff is not enjoyable, Ive been to several places that have themes such as star wars or back to the future that were great experiences but this place was overdone to the point it looked like a games by James on the inside. I tried their coffee out of courtesy which was good but I will not be going back to try them again which I think is why Im the first reviewer

Excellent coffee and better prices than anywhere else in uptown. Common areas are open to gamers, artists, and business people alike - I saw a gentleman working on his comic book there, which I have never seen anywhere else in MPLS. I thoroughly enjoy the coming together of all different types of people. Its unfortunate that some people are too cool to get over themselves and enjoy an excellent cup of coffee sans judgement of the people sitting around them, but truly, those folks can pay more money for hipster attitude at pretty much any other cafe in uptown.

One of the best Iced White Chocolate Raspberry Mochas I have had in the Twin Cities. Friendly staff, and a free simple to sign up for, simple to use Rewards system makes this high on my list of recommendations. Even though it is in an active section of Minneapolis, it still has enough parking in the vicinity that you can still park for free if you dont mind a block or two of walking. On a different note, if you want one of the best drinks you will find, ask for an Iced Aztec Mocha with a dash of honey and no whip cream.

What did I like about it? Wow, great question. I know the owner of the game shop and went in to do some Christmas shopping so I was surprised by the coffee bar. I am kind of a black coffee guy, and I didnt really know what to think of the craft stuff. I asked the barista- hipster looking dude (whatever)- what he recommended. Cafe miel. ..was efing delicious. I guess it is honey and cinnamon latte? Anyways, they had what I came for- cards against humanity. Overall good experience.

Wonderful cafe, especially first the gamer type as the coffee shop doubles over as a card/game store. The variety of tea is unique and consists of loose leaf options. I recommend the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake as a dessert item, its delicious. As a gamer, you will find many of your gaming needs met here. Including a wide variety of singles, booster packs, and Friday Night Magic. One of a kind store, mirroring stores found on the west coast.

This is my favorite coffee joint; I visit daily. Independent, locally owned and operated, the baristas are gems and the product is high quality, every time. I like to sit in the corner and do my admin work or outside on the Adirondack chairs and watch the people. Feels like home with a better selection of libations. Try an Infinitea on a hot day. So yum.

DEFINITELY worth checking out. Delicious coffee Delicious, locally roasted coffee with tons of unique options on the menu. The look of the shop and the way it works together with, but is still a separate entity from, Universe Games is brilliant. And they have super fast gigabit wifi! Try the Kyoto drip brew or a cafe bombon for something a bit sweeter.

I myself find the Kyoto Cold Press to the most amazing Caffè Ive ever tasted in my life. The staff knows what they are doing if they can create a drink like that. I also love the theme of the shop. It feels like Im floating in air with the flying pictures I the back ground. Ive found my new favorite coffee shop in uptown.

So many good games at this place. And one game that I couldnt find, the lady working there told me they could special order it no problem. I definitely want to come back and try playing a game, they have a plenty of tables and a lot of games ready to pull off the shelf. Coffee shop in the front is a plus as well.

Came here for high speed internet, enjoyed a delicious cup of cold press in the meantime. The Internet wasnt working at first, but the barista was very helpful, and fixed the issue right away. Also seems like a place for people who love making figurines and playing board games.

The staff is super friendly, they give discounts to local business employees, and have a board game store attached. That said the coffee is fairly underwhelming but it does the job. The game store junction is the real meat and potatoes of this spot.

Tasty drinks and a knowledgable staff! Also love the abundance of alternative milk options for drinks... Anyplace that can make a flax or coconut cappuccino and offer fun games on top of that, is awesome in my book (:

Creative, talented baristas. Awesome recipes. Love the steam theme. The fact that it has games that I can play while I sip my Kyoto drip-brew coffee only serves to enhance the experience! 5/5 would recommend!

A coffee shop, inside a gaming store, is a fantastic idea! We love the under-water theme. And Manny (sp?) might be the most knowledgeable & pleasant barista Ive ever met. Terrific experience! Well be back.

Theres good coffee brewed in interesting ways, with all the favorites. Also a board game/ccg store with game rentals you can borrow while you have a drink. High speed Internet. A great nerdy coffee shop.

My local game shop now does caffeine and Wedge baked goods? I obviously need to go back in. Does anyone know if there are vegan goods among those baked goods? When are we doing a board game night?

It has been a while since Ive been to Universe Games, and the place looks amazing. The addition of SteamShip Coffee is perfect, and the mocha I had was great. Thanks for two great businesses.
