I ordered the following to go: - Mandu - other than being cold (which is fine and a normal way to serve them as long as they dont get soggy and for a "to go" place, perfect they wont steam and get soggy), the flavor was light and crispy. Some would argue the filling was small, but actually it matched the light crispy skin perfectly. It sparked memories of how my mom used to make them. Sure when I made mandu as a kid, I put more filling in, but I was a growing boy... - Kimchi pancakes - okay, I received fair warning from others and I ordered to confirm. In this case, it is a pancake that happens to have a little kimchi in it. It is NOT a kimchi pancake. Wrong dough. However, I liked it. No its not better than a kimchi pancake. But I liked it. - Kim Bap - this by far is the rock star. Ive been to Kim Bap houses in Korea, eaten many kinds of Kim Bap from different cooks and moms. Was the flavor outstanding? No. It was normal. It was the texture. They use the thinnest seaweed wrap (gim or Kim) which is difficult to wrap without breaking, and expensive. The rice (Bap) was perfect in being light and soft. No graininess, not chewy, not sour by adding vinegar (or too much). - All of these had a Korean Soy sauce mixture of soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, sesame seeds, and some vinegar. It was a bit sweet and way too many seeds, but most will enjoy. - Bulgoki - (literally light/fire beef) it was texture and cut wise, perfect. The marinade was a bit bland. I liked it though. Okay, Ive grown up with bulgoki and quite honestly I always ended up burping the marinade for hours after eating. This version had a touch of the flavor I wanted without the after effect. - Galbi - marinated beef short ribs, okay this was perfect. Yes, it was a bit thinner, but this cut of meat is really expensive and portion wise it prevents overeating, see previous on bulgoki - Kimchi burger - wanted to like it, sounded perfect, but it failed. The fried egg was perfect. The meat should be regular hamburger meat, the marinated meat with other items made it too salty. Be careful with the sides. I found them hit and complete miss. The pickled daikon was good and refreshing, the bean sprouts were angry salty wrong, kimchi a bit over prime ripeness( happens and normal), the bokchoy I took one bite and said...no. The Korean woman who owns the place is genuinely friendly and down to earth. Her employees seem happy to be there, which by the way is a good thing. Overall, I liked it, the price was reasonable. She needs just a few minor adjustments on the burger and some of the side dishes (which should be changed seasonally)

Service was very, very fast! I ordered the beef bulgolgi with a side of pickled diakon and a side of kimchi. The pickled diakon was good! The bulgolgi flavor was - meh - , not spicy, not scrumptious in a way that caused me to desire eating more, and it was quite gristly. The kimchi flavor was - meh -. If youve been to Hoban in Eagan or Uptown Minneapolis and would give the authentic flavor and quality of their food 5 stars, then Sum Dem is 2 stars.

Got the Smoked Ribs and Mandus for take out. The ribs were delicious, very well prepared, and came with sauce drizzled over them . Got 2 sides and rice with them as well. Thought was perfect value and nice variety of flavor in 1 entree. The mandus was good too. Portions were appropriate for the price. My order was done fast and service friendly. I will for sure be back to try more.

This was my first experience of Korean food. I had the Bulgoki burger for lunch. It was easily one of the best burgers Ive ever had. The richness of the meat, the sauce and egg yolk goes so well with the taste of the kimchi and the fresh cilantro. Im excited to try the rest of the menu.

The food tastes pretty good, but I was hoping for a sit down place. This is a take away style place with 2 small tables. The food came out pretty slowly after we ordered. Given the price, i dont feel that we got good value, either lower prices, or larger portions would have been nice.

Great Korean BBQ in S. Minneapolis! I was in S. Korea a few months ago, and the food at Sum Dem Korean BBQ is as close as youre going to get in this area. Prices are in line with food quality and authenticity. The veggie kimbop is excellent.

We had the beef bulgoki, tofu bulgoki, cucumber kimchi, picked daikon, and marinated bean sprouts. Really fantastic food. Its more of a carry-out place, so go grab a bottle of wine at Ken and Norms and make it a picnic.

Not a good value. Very expensive for what you get compared to other take-out places. These prices would be appropriate for sit-in, not for take-out only. . I suspect they will not last long.

Its something the area doesnt have which is nice. I wasnt a huge fan of the sides, but the accessibility and convenience are big pluses. The short ribs were quite good.
