The short: delicious food, friendly service, and fun relaxed, upscale atmosphere. My wife and I started with Goon Mandu which is a Korean fried dumpling. The outside was crunchy and the inside was tender and delicious. It was accompanied by a dipping sauce that had a nice kick of spice to it. For entrees I had kimbop which were seaweed rolls filled with rice, meat, and veggies. They were very very good. My wife got the galbi or Korean BBQ which was fantastic as well - they took the time to cut the meat off the bone at the table which was really appreciated. Additionally both meals came with sides of kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and a zucchini dipped in egg. All 3 were flavorful and delicious! Really thrilled to see a place like this pop up locally! And hope others have good experiences too. Owners seemed very receptive to feed back. Edit Went back 4/24 as I couldnt stop thinking about the food. This time my wife and I got sushi. I ordered spicy snow crab rolls and my wife ordered tempura sweet potato rolls. Neither my wife or I are sushi afficianodos and Im not big on seafood to begin with, but the spicy snow crab was awesome. It was not fishy in the least and flavor was just awesome. I also really appreciated the texture which was crisp, but tender. The sweet potato tempura was similar in terms of quality. I think what really surprised me is just how much I enjoyed the experience and Im definitely looking forward to getting more adventurous. One other thing to note is the level of freshness of ingredients. As I was leaving I saw the chef slicing up octopus and it was very vividly colored - you could tell it was fresh. I think it is as fresh as you get in Minnesota for seafood and it shows in the taste of the food Bonsai creates.

Excellent! We ordered chapchae, bi-bim-bop, bulgokee, mandu and a california roll. Everything was really nice and very delicious... the chapchae was good but not the best Ive had, though its likely a recipe issue and not a quality issue- I tend not to like the smokey flavor that chapchae sometimes has. The bi-bim-bop was very good, especially because I dont usually favor it. I actually thought it was really good. And the bulgokee- SO excellent, the best Ive ever had. It is melt-in-your-mouth bulkogee and the flavor was unmatchable. The owner said its done with high quality cuts of fresh angus beef. Its expensive on the menu but it was by far my favorite dish. Had they had kim bahp (its only on the lunch menu) I would have been extra pleased:) This restaurant is a bit higher end and it is reflected not just in the prices but the presentation. They also have a pretty large section of Japanese food and of course a lot of sushi roll options. That drives up price too. But we thought it was worth it. In my experience Korean food and maybe Japanese, are always a little pricier. The prep is a lot of work in my experience. The special sweet dessert drink(s) are amazing as well... they come with the meal. Apparently they are boiled for almost 2 days and aid in digestion and blood sugar regulation. :) The most outstanding dish, their specialty, is the bulgokee. Amazing!!

Short answer - New place, still getting organized - higher end quality food - but you pay for it. Best dish - Bulgogi I went in on a Thursday. I was expecting a Korean barque place. Where you cook the meat in pots or on a grill on the tables. This isnt that type of place. Place looks clean, has that just built look ( it was just built, some sort of chemical smell, not to bad just a fyi. It is new contruction...) We tried to order some chicken teriyaki and they where out of chicken. so we got a California roll , Bulgogi and the wife got some soup dish. California roll isnt the usual bunch of veggies and a fake piece of crab. More of a crab paste. Bit saltier then expected. But well prepared. Wifes soup dish, I didnt catch the name came out boiling hot, it had egg, tofuchicken? and a bunch of spices. Not bad, not good. good presentation - just not really my thing. but that Bulgogi. OMG it was little tasty meat treats. Suprisingly strong flavorful dish. I will come back again for this alone

It may have been just a bad day considering the good experience we had in the past but the service and wait time were unacceptable. For a Thursday night they had only a manager/owner and one server who was in training on the floor. The two tables near to us, along with our dishes came out one dish at a time with our final one taking over an hour. For this reason we decided to leave. I was very impressed by the large selection of fish they had but the organization was lacking.

BEST KOREAN AND JAPANESE CUSINE EVER. They just opened and the staff seems low but trust me, The food is outstanding. The owner is a dietitian and HAND picks all the fresh vegetables. The kimchi is hand made with the hand picked veggies, not from a jar. People said the prices were too high on some of the items but Korean entrees tend to be higher due to very good tender meats. They also have a master sushi chef. This is by far one of my new favorite restraunts.

We went in tonight, 6/29 and the service was terrible. Several tables were partially served. They completely forgot my mothers order and when we complained, the owner blamed the server who was a trainee having to serve the entire floor. We will not return, not recommende this place to our friends/family

Service was excellent. We ordered Korean bibimbap, and spent only $18 for the meal that included miso, banchan, free cinnamon drink dessert, free peppermint patties, and free mango/strawberry/mint dish. Good atmosphere, and the manager/owner (?) checked in to make sure we were satisfied :)

We all loved the sushi and the Korean dish. The Kim chi was fabulous, as well as the seaweed salad. It ended with a wonderful rice liquid, homemade, to aid your digestion. Great service and well be back next week!

Really good Korean food! The owner walked in with 3 big heads of cabbage as I walked out, so kimchi is fresh homemade.
