Stay Away! The restaurant that you might have known is no longer there. Yes, it is physically still the same but the food and service is gone. My wife and I went for dinner to Rainbow that I have praised since 1989. Sesame Noodles were drenched in a monotone peanut butter sauce (I have had this dish over a dozen times, this was no longer right). My wife thought it was like cleaning a jar of peanut butter with over cooked noodles. They werent terrible, just not as good as they used to be. Won Ton soup, incorrectly seasoned, all I could taste is salt (so I added hot sauce). At this point of the meal I told my wife not to worry the entrees will make up for it. She ordered Duck with vegetables. The duck tasted like it had been cooked and held for three-four days. she tried it and I tried it and placed the partially chewed food in my napkin. Oops, we will send it back. Then I tried my entree; Seafood and Gai Lai Mein. My noodles were burned (straight burned, not brown or toasty...burned), I tried to cut into the shrimp and failed (tire rubber consistency), the sauce on one of my favorite menu items flavorless. I consumed one bite and waited 5 minutes to get the servers attention (who had tables on the sidewalk, front, middle and back of restaurant. Rotating tables doesnt work all the time guys. We sent our entrees back, I received a menu again. The server then returned to tell me we were going to pay for half of the duck entree. I stayed perfectly calm and was told the owner was going to come talk to us. Great, if Tammy sees this and talks to me she will fix everything right? Nope, Tammy Wong didnt come out just the server who brought the tab and informed us we would have to pay 1/2 for both uneaten and inedible entrees. This is the first time I have not tipped in 22 years of being in the service industry. Rainbow Chinese restaurant used to be a shining jewel in this state, now it is on par with the poorest of the buffets and take out places that make you sad. This thing makes me very sad. Stay away.

Placed an order online 13 Mar 2015. Not only was the order late by about 30-40 minutes, but my order was wrong missing an order of crab rangoon. Call to check on the status of my order after being about 20 minutes late, and I was told that they were extremely busy, ok I get that no problem. I get my order after giving a $10 dollar tip for a $25 order even after being late. Checked my order only to find that it was incorrect called the Restaurant, was told that the print off did not have my order of crab rangoon, I replied will I have it here on my email recient for confirmation. Then was told well we didnt charge you for it. How is that so well you wanted extra shrimp in your shrimp fried rice. Yes. Well we added the extra shrimp to your shrimp fried rice and didnt charge you for the crab rangoon. I was asked if I wanted the Crab Rangoon, yes. Well you will have to come pick them up because we are so busy. LMBO...So basically I placed an order and you decided what I should and should not have. Last time I will order from here. This is how you lose customers and go out of business.

Rainbow is hands down the greatest Chinese Restaurant I have ever been to. Every time I have been, Ive been greeted with nothing less than excellent service. The servers are extremely friendly and the food is to die for. I thought I knew Chinese food before, but when I tried Rainbow I knew it was just the beginning. The drinks are all creative and original, not to mention delicious. The dishes take my taste buds on adventures to unexplored lands of flavor and deliciousness. Just the eggrolls alone make me want to cry tears of joy as if I just witnessed the birth of my first child. My review may seem over the top but thats what this restaurant means to me. It provides so much more variety than your other American Chinese restaurants that can be found all throughout Mpls, and does not disappoint. A favorite dish of mine that Id recommend every time is the Chicken Black bean with Fun noodles.

We went at 9pm on a Thursday evening. The portions are on the smaller end, but if you go during happy hour, its a steal. Ordered the following: dumplings --Great. mango salad -- Really good. Super spicy. papaya salad with egg roll -- Good. lemongrass chicken -- Pretty good. Not too much chicken vs. lots of vegetables. mint gin/cava/vanilla cocktail - Good. Tasted sweet, but felt strong, which is my favorite combination. Music and ambiance was good. Fish tank was big, clean and sexy. Diverse patrons racially and social economically, from suits at the bar to hipsters doing date night at the tables. Would like to return with a larger group and do some heavy plate sharing!

Take Out: 5/17/2016 @ 6:01 p.m. I called and had a giant serving of piping hot deliciousness on my table in 24 minutes! Very good experience tonight 3/18/16. The only time Ive had a mediocre visit to Rainbow was when the kitchen got bogged down with a constant stream of Bite Squad orders. We ordered the egg rolls and cream cheese wontons which are perfect together. Ask for a little spicy condiment rack and you have a nice heat with the egg rolls and a sweet counter with the wontons. For entrees we chose Chicken with black bean sauce Hong Kong style noodles and Honey Walnut Shrimp. Both were delicious and provided for plenty of leftovers.

My wife, son, and myself went here over the weekend and I will have to say that what we used to love about the restaurant is, sadly, gone. My wife and I used to deliberately drive for over a half a hour to get the duck soup; it is no longer on the menu. That in itself was a disappointment; but then so was the less than desirable General Tsos Chicken and Kung Pao Beef that we ordered. I was also let down by the flavorless fried rice that we ordered as well. Sadly, what was once a special place for my wife and myself to go and eat has become a thing of the past that we will never find again.

If you want overpriced food, that has the simplicity and the sophistication of a burned butter toast, than this is your place. The service was good, the atmosphere was fine, the place looks great, it is a shame that they give you food there, otherwise it would be nice to spend and evening there. I ordered sechuan chicken with noodles.I got a plate with some chicken and some random fried vegetables, and a horrible hard pasta. It must have cost to make at least 3 dollars. Why did I have to pay 15 dollars for it is a mystery.

Turnip cake! (Nowhere else have I be offered this.) Tammy Wongs egg rolls are no less than exquisite! Wonton soup is a must! I like Walnut Honey shrimp, but Tammy scowls at me when I order it because its ... probably not good for my waist line. My partner inevitably orders Summer Satay, which is great as boxed-up for breakfast, cold. Mama Wong is so my most beloved because shes so wise and genuine. Tammy Wong is the best chef in Minneapolis, and doesnt need the James Beard award to fortify her sense of excellent cuisine.
