The best coffee joint in the Cities. Why? 1) The People - the staff is super nice and not concerned with hipness or creating a vibe. Instead by virtue of their attitude, as opposed to say a long lecture about the sourcing of their products or an overly curated vibe, they create the perfect blend of service with a smile...as opposed to service with a millenial attitude. 2) The Product - ummm, not sure where their coffee comes from (I get the espresso) but I can tell you its damn good and without all of the zero-foot print, asking you for a donation, farm table diatribes that accompany so many things today. Which makes me just trust the whole thing even more at this point. Whats more the baked goods are AMAZING. Best chocolate chip cookie on earth. 3) The Process - whatever they are doing, they are doing mostly in front of you without making a big deal about it. And whatever they are doing makes me come back. This place is a gem of a place because of: the people, product and process.

I love this place. Im a cold press guy, so I try it everywhere I go. I decided yesterday that Empire has the best cold press in Minneapolis. It is SO GOOD. Their Cafe Miel is pretty incredible if you want something hot and tasty. They also have probably the best assortment of pastries/sandwiches/biscuits. They dont make stuff to order like some other places around, but what they have in the case is all phenomenal. Most of it is hearty stuff like frittata/quiche and biscuit sandwiches (bacon/chive/cheese muffin is my favorite), but they have really good bars and cookies as well. They arent open very late so this is definitely a suns-out spot, which is great because they open up the garage doors in the summer to give it a glorious open-air feel. It gets busy around lunchtime, but is generally pretty quiet.

All I can say is wow. The little thing working the counter, wearing glasses with the dish water blond hair could not have been more miserable . I gave it my order , it never acknowledged the order, it just quickly short poured my coffee , tossed the pecan bar I ordered as well on the counter , typed on the iPad , never told me how much the total was, held out the palm of its claw , snatched my $$$ & never said thank you. My guess is the little troll is so unhappy it needs to go back to its cave. See you next Tuesday !!! Funny how the little sign on the door says " All are welcome" this clearly isnt the case. Go elsewhere for you cup of Joe.

Best. Biscuit. Sandwich. Ever. Crumbly, flakey, delicious biscuit with real carved off the bone ham and real cheddar. Get it warmed up with added whole grain mustard. Or try a scone, a cookie, or quiche..you wont be disappointed. AND the coffee is always stellar. Friendly staff who know their stuff. Its close quarters, but clean and bright. The most annoying thing are other customers using it as an office, makes it awkward to just enjoy your sandwich. Take out fixes this.

Espresso was ok, and the spot is convenient for work. Man though, you cant buy good service in this area of town. Between Empire and UP, be prepared for disinterested service at best (took a solid minute for the two behind the counter to finish some bizarre conversation about camping before reluctantly turning to me), condescending and passive aggressively hostile at worst.

Good latte, awesome fennel currant scone! Quiet place to stop after work for a treat and good ambiance. During better weather it appears the Garage style doors lift for some fresh air. My only criticism of the experience; I asked for my food to stay, but my coffee was put in a to-go cup. Ill be back for sure.

Great pastries. Had a chocolate croissant, a blueberry cream cheese danish and a pecan bar, all excellent. The danish and croissant were perfectly flaky. Cold press was solid, service was very friendly on a busy Saturday morning. Will definitely be back.

It was a nice place to go for a tasty biscuit sandwich and latte. Coffee and food is good! They decorated the place really nicely. I will for sure come back once the temps. go above freezing this winter (writing this in -7°...).

Awesome coffee shop. I used to live around here but moved away a couple years ago. When Im in the area I still stop by for a coffee and a bite to eat. Their food selection is unique, homemade, and very tasty! Well done Empire.

Good coffee and breakfast sandwich for a reasonable price. There is a definite hipster vibe but the employees were super nice (unlike Spyhouse.) Great place to sit on a nice day when they open up the garage doors.

I love Empires quiet vibe. The neighborhood is out-of-the-way but up-and-coming, and its a smallish space but has never felt cramped. A good place to meet for coffee or to come focus on work. Also, great coffee.

If you are looking for a cheap and tasty mug of coffee on your way to work, this is the place to go. It also has some charm being a former garage, so lots of daylight gets let in when they open the doors.

Try the Margarets Soother tea if you have a cold! A rotation of Mucinex, Niquil, and Dayquil couldnt help me but this tea straightened me right out! Great staff, laid back vibe, and delicious muffins.

Very pleasant environment. What I liked was it wasnt overly environmentally preachy (perhaps like the locations previous owner). "New and improved..." said the cashier today. I believe she was right.

I went late in the day. The worker seemed too nonchalant about helping me and the quiche i ordered was still cold in the middle. the coffee is okay but the macaroon was good.

Boy... I read all these great reviews and wonder whats wrong with me. The people here are so crabby. And they screw up my drink every time (3 times). That enough for me

Great coffee and tea choices, but dont expect flavor shots. Pastries, quiche, fritatta are always good. Small selection of very good sandwiches.

Nice location, decent coffee, plentiful outlets -- but the temperature was too warm (felt about 80 degrees).

This place is lovely. When they open the garage door in the summer, its the perfect mix of inside and out!
