I’ll add my voice to others on the Birchwood Benedict. This could be an awesome entree, but curiously they serve it on a cold, un-toasted english muffin. On the positive side, they do bring out a serrated knife with the dish. You’ll need that knife, as you’ll be spending a lot of time sawing through the cold, UN-TOASTED english muffin. Sawing, sawing back and forth, you’ll be doing lots of sawing through that muffin - it will be the topic of conversation for your whole table. You can skip your Crossfit workout that day. Also, be sure to allow lots of extra time at the Birchwood, and know that the emptiness of the restaurant has zero bearing on your total meal time. They are one of the new wave of restaurants that use the ‘planned inefficiency’ model of ordering at a register before you sit down. You could luck out and have no line, or find yourself behind 15 people with high-maintenance, fussy orders and a single register open. The food doesn’t start, and you can’t sit down, until you run that gauntlet.

Wife and I came on a Saturday for breakfast. Definitely a very happening place. Arrived and was greated by a friendly host that offered us coffee while we waited to order. The line was long, had to wait for about 15 minutes before ordering. The seating was tight due to the large crowd and had to sit between two other couples at a long table with mostly couples sitting. The wait wasnt long until food arrived and the portions are large. Neither one of us could finish our meals (ordered the waffle and the rice and beans dish.) Staff came around and filled coffee and were all very kind. The food was great, lots of great flavors. The prices are expected for any higher quality restaurant in the city ($12 to $20 per dish) Overall great experience, the food was worth it. If you dont want to wait a while in line or sit close to strangers while eating than I advise not to come at peek hours (mid morning on weekends.) Highly recommend Birchwood.

I absolutely love the Birchwood. The food is unbelievable and I always leave feeling that my food was cooked with care "and love" as we like to say around our dinner table. I think the only thing that made it slightly less appetizing this time was the "forced" and "arent we progressive" signage. The "Black Lives Matter" sign was very fitting for the Prius crowd. But the irony of the whole thing is that there isnt a minority in sight! I think there is one African American working there but I wonder if the place would succeed in a truly "minority" neighborhood. I also wonder if anyone there gives a crap about the 15 million aborted black babies lives that dont seem to matter. However their eggs benedicts and waffles are over the top fantastic. Just glad I get to drive back to the "Carhartt" set and leave the hypocracy behind! I highly recommend for fantastic food and a good chuckle!

All round outstanding - the food, the service, the interior (if youre into that kinda thing). My wife and I arrived after a pretty long run (training for a half-marathon) and needed a place to refuel. The service was absolutely outstanding. When we were discussing our chosen meal with the server (GF Savory Waffle) we inquired what made the waffle gluten free. The server grabbed the recipe book, and carefully examined the ingredients and told us exactly what was used to make it. I really dont think you can get better customer service. We were already impressed at this point, and then the food came. Granted, we were hungry, but my word, incredibly delicious. Some really great coffee too! All round, one of the best places Ive eaten in the Cities area. Great staff, food and ambiance. Will definitely be back!

A fun Longfellow neighborhood favorite. A real foodie kind of joint. All farm to table, with ingredients making the menu when they are available. The standard menu has a lot of great options, and pretty much everything has a meatless option, or, better yet, a meat option for us standard carnivores. Big flavors and bold dish combos. The lemongrass chicken stew was the bomb! Great beer options, loyal to the local selection of which there is no shortage! The burgers are a fan favorite. They have a decadent dessert bar. This is a counter order model, and a mixed seat yourself (independent tables and some communal options). Staff is knowledgeable and they will check up on you to make sure you have what you need. If you want a high quality homey neighborhood dining experience haul ass down here.

Birchwood cafe just tries too hard. We live close and its pretty obvious that any "ethical consideration" of the food is undone by the amount of people that drive in from the suburbs and other parts of the city. Which is fine, however, when you eat here you are most definitely paying to "feel good" about what youre eating. That being said, there is nothing radical or subversive about eating at Birchwood no matter what their decoration or menu hints towards. Their food is okay, more trendy novelty than good. The portions are small. It seems like the kind of place somebody drives across town to feel like a writer or something. If anything above means something to you, this probably isnt the place for you.

As backers of this establishment we where excited with the antcapation of a great dinning expereance. The truth is that we left disapointed. The young man that served us was not in tune with the basic service expected. Not once didi he ask if our food was to sitisfaction. The warm bread came out after our meals,he served us coffie without utincels, sugar. The owner never aproched our tabel to thank us for our support! and the food menu intresting however boring and flavorless. It seems to me that this establisment is running on auto piliot and the attention to detail is lacking from the top to the bottom and it shows in the product it serves. We will not be returning!

As the sandwich which I was about to order was not available in the 1/2 portion, the young man behind me in line offered to buy it and give me the other half. In gratitude I savored this tasty offering, called "Muffaletta": complex and succulent -- marinated radishes, crisp lettuce... This, along with the white bean and bacon soup and a lemon -- very lemmony --cake, made the perfect culmination of an otherwise un-May like month. The Four Seasons restaurant in NYC would be very jealous of the quality and complexity of Birchwoods fare. And, of such kind service! I have long held this opinion of the Birchwood.

Great Korean food close to downtown Minneapolis. An a la carte style restaurant where you order the food up front and then it is brought out to your table when ready. A very good selection of Korean/American food, including salad and soup. With open seating, it is very family friendly. Equally appropriate for a working lunch or a family meal. Because of the open seating, it can be a little loud, but its still easy to have light conversation while you eat. Parking is all street-side. There is plenty of parking in the vicinity, but you should allow yourself some extra time to park when making your plans.

Planned a dinner training for 20, only 8 showed, we wanted to order off the menu to make the 400.00 min we had to. with perhaps higher dollar items. According to two people there, we had stick with the planned menu. I travel three wks a month to a different state. I have been in every state except Mississippi over the last 13 years. Weve had other events where people are a no - show... and they allow ordering off the menu, as it is VERY COMMON for a party of 8 to enter a restaurant. They are not the type of restaurant or people we will ever do business with again.
