We have been at this place twice before and had so so service but enjoyed the food so we decided to go again to take our kids so they could see the caboose but when we arrived it was not busy (6pm) and we were told they were not serving in the caboose so we sat in the bar area anyway so our kids could play games and shoot some pool. Our waitress was not friendly she rushed our order, didnt ask us if we needed anything after we got our order. We had to end up getting up to get our own hot sauce and didnt bother trying to ask for BBQ sauce for our sons chicken strips. Our kids love pickles and they both asked for an extra one for them and it was like a chore for her to extend the act of kindness to get a pickle. We have gone to other restuarants where they will bring back plenty for the kids and are happy to but not this lady she could hardly smile at us. It was like she was rushing us out of there to get us out of the place. She was friendly to everyone else but us. We felt like we were being treated differently because we had kids in there and the last two times we were there -- there is always kids in there so we didnt get it. The whole atmosphere of the place was just bad tonight. For being in a small town and having two superior restaurants near by doing excellent service and having good food you would think you would go out of your way to have excellent service. Or maybe they didnt like seeing a mix couples a minority with a white person at there resturant.

Maybe Im a little sentimental and thats part of what keeps bringing me back to Choo Choo for family functions, but I really do love going here. Ive gone a couple of times during the day, when you eat in the main bar area. Its not my favorite place to eat, and maybe its coincidence, but the food always seems to taste better at night. The feature that draws me back again and again is the atmosphere in the dining area. A few years ago, they did a really beautiful job renovating the dining area. My large and loud family is easily accommodated and always well taken care of. This restaurant was my grandparents weekly date before my grandma passed away. She always got a salad and a huge plate of steak. Tastes a lot like good home cooking. The bread sticks are amazing, and totally worth the calories. Haha. Harvey (I hope Im remembering that right?) is usually working and comes to say hi to our large family, and brings us a shot of scotch, which we all ceremoniously sip in honor of my grandma. See? Sentimental, yes. But were picky, too! Its the only restaurant we can all agree on. I will always look forward to our next family gathering at Choo Choo.

This place used to be great until the current owner took over. One night we had to wait 45 mins for the salads, not even our entre, the place was packed (all you can eat crab leg night), there was one waitress working the entire place, no bus boy, and one bar tender. All while the whole night the owner was playing pool instead of helping. We asked to talk to the owner because we were ready to leave, sick of waiting. He didnt come over for another half an hour after our waitress told him we would like to talk to him. When we confronted him about the bad experience we had, all he had to say was, well you need to come earlier on crab leg night before the rush, and ill make it up to you next time. In a small town like Lorretto you need to make up for when you your customers get bad service, not make it up to them next time because there wont be a next time. I would recommend the Detour 19 just down the street over this place. Way better food, customer service is great - they staff remembers you and even what you like to order! And they have good specials every night of the week.

This is in response to Alyssas review. I was there the night in question shooting pool with the owner. Monday nights is our LEAGUE night and he was shooting with his team and was not working. That was also an extremely busy night for crab legs so to have that going on and pool leagues made for some confusion. I have been a regular customer there for about 12 years and have been there many nights when it was extremely busy. Any restaurant has evenings where they are overwhelmed and do their best to accommodate all customers. The fact that the owner helped you out when he was shooting with his league team and was not working says he's a considerate owner. If you prefer to go to Detour 19 now, that is certainly your choice, but you are missing out on not only fantastic food and service, but a great atmosphere. And I also frequent Detour so I am not criticizing them.

So I dont normally write reviews but I thought this time I should say something! We had heard that this was a kid friendly great place to go. Upon arrival I was disappointed to see the outside of the building and the parking lot looking quite dumpy. Thought that the inside of the restaurant would be better but I was sorely mistaken. The carpeting for one was absolutely disgusting as it was full of holes stains and looked extremely old! The dust on the ceilings was extremely thick! The menus were extremely in bad shape. The metal on the faucet was actually being eating away. The whole place felt and looked VERY dingy! Look I dont own a restaurant nor have I ever owned one but I do know the appearance is key! You mean to tell me that the manager can walk into that place and be proud!!!!!! Uggggg!!!!!! Please clean up your act!!!!!

I was quite impressed, figuring this was a local bar type restaurant I was surprised at the fool selection. My wife ordered the Walleye fingers basket and I had the prime rib sandwich and we shared an order of oniom rings. The sandwich was plentiful and cooked to perfection, my wife said her fosh was very good and the onion rings were hot and fresh. The restaurant is obviously by name railroad themed and the Canadian Pacific tracks are right outside, also there is a full size caboose inside the restaurant that you can eat in. I would highly recommend a stop even if it is just for a beer.

We eat here once a week. My wife and i have been coming since we were in diapers. Absolutely love it. Small menu but very consistent food. Staff is always friendly. Food can take a while because they always seem to be busier than expected. Get there early if you are in a hurry. Tawny and Angie are AWESOME!!

I have been here twice. This place is awesome and is a great place to get a burger. My friend had waited on his kitty cocktail for 40 minutes, but she gave us a pitcher of it for free! That is what I call customer service. This place has great food and is a great place to hang out and have fun.
