Nothing short of amazing. My wife and I used to live in New York and we ate sushi constantly, at great places like Bond Street. Weve been to Japan and eaten at Tsukiji fish market. Weve eaten at Michelin-starred sushi restaurants in Tokyo and weve been down by the seaside in Asahi to eat it straight off the boat. Weve tried every sushi joint we could find in Minnesota, favoring the Lyndale/Lake Fuji Ya. This is NOT to brag: just to say that Id like to think we know good fish when we taste it. And Nakamori is the best sushi weve ever had in Minnesota, hands down. We were floored. We knew something was up with our first dish. We ordered the raw scallop and it was like a nuclear blast of excellence. We had an array of nigiri to follow it and it was uniformly spectacular, particularly the salmon, suzuki and mutsu. Every cut was perfect; the texture was insanity - we kept ordering more and more. What started as a test run of a new restaurant turned into two hours of sincere glee! I cannot say enough about the chef, Andy, who is clearly some kind of wizard. We have our favorite sushi chefs in the Cities (Hide, Kazu, Ricardo - we keep a long list) - Andy is the new heavyweight. Props must also be given to our server, Tommy, who was unfailingly friendly and courteous. The only bummer was that we spent a significant portion of our evening as the only people in the restaurant. Granted, Tuesday night in Edina is probably not heavy traffic night, but this place DESERVES to be packed, every night. People should have to beg for tables. It really is that good! In fact, I felt compelled to write this review specifically because I cant bear the thought of this place closing down for lack of business. It truly is something special on the Minnesota food scene. If you love sushi, you owe it to yourself to give Nakamori a try. We plan to return soon and frequently. This unassuming joint, tucked away in a strip mall in sleepy Edina, has the best sushi I have tasted in the upper Midwest!

Cmon Edina! Give this place a chance. We dont get a lot of good sushi restaurants and now, we finally have one and decent prices. It is a bit hard to see in the plaza, but its located smack on the corner of France and Hazelton, in the same plaza with Caribou and Brueggers. I memorized the fantastic happy hours and have been back several times between 3pm-5pm, or after 8pm. My husband says the straight up sushi is some of the freshest he has had. The rolls are fresh, not overstuffed and nicely presented. When I am not in a "cold fish" mood, I will order the Yaki Soba noodles topped with chicken or beef. The dish comes with a lot of nice stir-fry veggies and the portion size is great - not too small, not too big. Take a pass on the beef negamaki (skewers) though, it was just ok. Felt the same about the fried rice too. I guess I am more of a Chinese fried rice fan. The Japanese version just didnt wow me. The wait staff (Cherry) is helpful and friendly. She has make some good recommendations. Oh - and dont forget to check out the bathrooms!

I was in town for work craving sushi, read the reviews which seemed promising and gave it a shot. The sushi was plain old bad. Worst Ive had to be honest. Service was fine but not great considering how not busy the restaurant was. The rolls were small and dry, the fresh fish on their rainbow roll was dry and tasteless, clearly frozen and defrosted. Heck even the edamame had way too much salt and had clearly been frozen for too long. In short, they have a large menu here so if you go, skip the sushi. But if the sushi is any indication, just skip this one. Side note, they dont have a bartender, they have a piece of paper with popular drink recipes on it. I watched a middle aged Asian woman make what must have been the worst Margarita you could possibly imagine using some truly bottom shelf tequila. She had no clue how much to add and was holding the ice down in one glass with her hand (no gloves) transferring some tequila to the other glass. Then she added more to both. So yeah, skip the cocktails here too.

Hate to be that guy but I needed a sushi fix and saw this place with a perfect rating. How could I not try it right?? Well I wish I had the 5 star experience 19 other reviews had. Food was OK, service was OK prices were very reasonable. They did have Live scallops that were pretty good and they also had Uni which is hard to come by on a Tuesday if you can find it at all. It was fine but two more days and they had better chuck it. The rainbow roll was good too. All in all its a decent place that I may have come to on an off day, Ill give them the benefit of the doubt considering the other 19 perfect ratings but if I ever come back I hope they get the smell taken care of because that tends to ruin the experience as well. Like I said, everybody has a bad day.... I hope for them all the rest of the reviews are 5s! Best of luck.

If you are expecting great service, great food, and a good atmosphere, this is the perfect place to go. We are regulars for Nakamori and the people who work there know us very well! They named me "Miso Girl" since I always get a few bowls of miso soup and they make sure they have plenty when I go there. Their sushi chefs are amazing at what they do and are very friendly, they will give good suggestions according to what kind of craving you have. The fish is so fresh, you still smell the sea/lake. Service is great and the waiters make sure you have a great experience each time! Also, their happy hour prices are very good for sushi, drinks, and miso soup!

I need to change my opinion. I went there the 2nd time - around 9 p.m. (Nakamori is open until 10), staff was already cleaning everything, first weve got just a lunch menu (like they didnt want us to order dinner, but we asked for a dinner menu, the unhappy lady gave it to us). I felt terrible, that I have to super rush with my food as theyre running with broom and cloth everywhere and Im not welcomed there. Even if the restaurant supposed to be open for another almost an hour! Food delicious, huge portions, but the service when you go in the evening is terrible. I didnt enjoy my meal at all.

The food is good, but the Friday lunch wait staff leaves much to be desired. It was obvious that one server was complaining to the other about the small amounts of food that her tables were ordering. Just because the words are spoken in another language does not mean that the meaning is obscured. I was surprised to see her drinking in front of customers and pressuring the neighboring table into ordering more food than they wanted and I was horrified to watch her blow her nose and continue with her tasks without washing her hands. I feel sick already. I wont be back.
