Ive visited the Red Apple several times during the past 20+ years. Its never been any better than a 2 - 2.5 star diner at its best, but the convenience of a 24 hour restaurant was alluring enough that I kept going. After tonight, though, I will never go there again. In the past, Ive dealt with surly servers, incorrect bills and so much heat blasting from the vents that it made me feel nauseated. This evening, I attempted to dine there again with another person, but the rude owner decided to start a debate with me over a bottle of water. I would never bring soda or food into a restaurant because that could hurt their bottom line. I only drink water, though. Therefore, bringing in my own water actually saves the restaurant money. This is something Ive done for years (including in the Red Apple many times) without anyone ever caring. When we walked in today, a man said to me, "You cant bring that in. Theres no food or water allowed." I responded with, "Im sure they wont care," to which he said, "Im the owner, and I care." First off, it was only water. Second, he didnt attempt to say any of this in a polite manner. Third, this particular bottle of water had electrolytes added into it, which is something I have to have right now due to a medical condition. When I said something about the electrolytes, he didnt care. Instead, he told me, "if I let you bring it in, theyll bring stuff in." Im not even sure who he meant considering the fact that the restaurant was almost empty and no one else was in the section we had chosen. In a nutshell, he turned away paying customers who usually have a bill of around $20 to $25 and who always tip well over a bottle of water that was going to save him money and was necessary for a medical issue. Additionally, he wasnt friendly, polite or conciliatory about any of this. It is understandable for him not to want soda or food brought into his establishment, but his willingness to lose customers over a bottle of water that was going to save him money is completely nonsensical. If he had at least been polite about this situation, I would have understood a little better, but that wasnt the case. Ill be going to the 24 hour Leos Coney Island from now, which is a lot closer to my house anyway.

There is a nasty smell soon as you walk in the double doors. Its very dusty inside and every single time I have been there over many years the glasses and silverware is not clean so I bring my own silverware and dont drink anything there at all. The wait staff is kind, polite and respectful. There is one cook that really cooks well and in a timely manner and there is another cook that really could care a less if your food is cooked properly or if its raw. Crazy how he takes forever to cook being the food is so crapy after taking so long to make it. There prices are on the high side and trust me many I know have said the very some about there prices. I will say that the pizza there is really really delicious pizza. If they would just update the place as everything is dusty and old looking, either clean or get new carpeting and let the one cook go that cant cook properly at all and give his job to someone that takes a lot more pride in their job? I bet you 10 to 1 they would pack the place other then after all the bars close down in the area. The owner needs not to be so greedy and put some of that money back in to his business where its a little more pleasing to the eye. Seriously seriously long long well overdue.

All Bad. So much wrong with this place. Completely over priced food. It was the only breakfast spot open around me so I had to settle. Give my order then look up at the waitress and shes the dirtiest looking lady Ive seen. Just looks like she had herpes all over her face idk how they let her work like that. I wait about 45 Minutes to get my order. All the while the cooks are just walking around, in and out of the kitchen into the lobby area. Not even doing anything just looking around. Not a glove in sight. Also random people coming in and out of the kitchen with random dirty coolers and boxes. Finally get my food go home to eat and the Food was Terrible!!! French toast soggy like it was just drenched in the egg mix and half way cook. Eggs over cooked didnt even tast like craked eggs more like it was from a carton. Pancakes trash. Sausage patties dry and rubbery Links undercooked. Me and my wife couldnt even get through half our meal wast of $20. Yes $20 for 2 orders of breakfast with. Menu selection all over the place and just over priced all around NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN AND WOULDNT EVEN RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY.

07-I6-17 love this place. Been here many of times. Never had a problem. Our waitress was awesome, food good. However today it was the cashier, its normally a nice lady. But today they had a very young cashier boy who did not understand how to split up the bill evenly with my boyfriend and I? I work retail, i get it. Im very patient. When i said i wanted to add a tip to the total(which is both of our order slips) and then me and him will both pay half. I would of done the math and told him how much on each card. But he proceeded to sound cocky and say "well with what?? " as he looked around. Like what do you mean? Im just letting you know what we are doing first before i give u my card. If you need my card first to add a tip thats fine. But he didnt get it and i had to pay the whole bill on my card because obviously wasnt listening. I will come back again. But ill be asking for a new cashier if hes there.. sorry.

The French Laundry it is not; but with reasonable expectations this is a good "home town" restaurant. Go here for the charm and value not to admire the modern décor. Yes; it is dated, to the point that it is homey, warm, charming, get over it. This is not a national chain; adjust expectations accordingly, or go to Big Boy/Dennys, whatever... I recently brought my mother in law who was visiting from Australia. Perfect example of a solid traditional American diner. Food is good, value is fantastic, wait staff is pleasant, orders go in and food comes out in reasonable time. I have dined here 6-8 times over the past 3-years. I admire the dated décor and the fact that it all seems to be kept in serviceable clean condition (stalwart dedication showing old school pride in ownership). Try the Monte Cristo or the steak with mushrooms and onions!

Drove by and saw the place, was hungry with fiance so we stopped in. Their cornbread was horrible, the soup was chunky where it shouldnt be and tasted over salted, way over salted, the french fries werent cook at all and still had cold centers, and the burger (which was 4.99 not including fries) was WAY under done and super small (Im talking McDonald $1 hamburger roundness). I asked for medium-rare cooking, but I got completely rare with slight cold all around. It had a good quality of meat, but the cooking was attrocious! They doused the burder in American nacho cheese and nuked it. Worst food Ive had in a long time! Wait staff was pleasant and I tipped her because she did her job, it was the kitchen that sucked.
