Claddagh is a chain of fifteen Irish Pubs located in the midwest with the home office in Solon, OH. It was a beautiful day so we opted for the patio over the dining room. We got a quick look at the inside and it’s a gorgeaous pub. Very typical of what you expect. Lots of dark woods with a huge horseshoe shaped bar in the middle. The really interesting feature was the pub tables located near the bar. They took old whiskey barrels and put a table top on them. I noticed it when we were walking out and I actually went back to take a closer look. It was a really cool idea and added nicely to the overall theme. The hostess showed us to a table on the patio which sits on the sidewalk in front of the building. The waiter came with drinks and since we had a big night of drinking at Common Ground, we all went with Pepsi’s. The menu has a lot of traditional Irish fare along with pub staples. There were a few sandwiches that looked good, but I went with the Steak Burger billed as “Our Signature Sizzling Steak Burger.” The 10 oz. burger was served on a brioche roll which was soft and flaky and really soaked up the flavor from the bleu cheese and American bacon I had them add on. It was a good burger. Good size and cooked to medium. The bleu cheese had melted just enough to mix a little with the bacon grease which made a little sauce instead of just chunks of cheese. The sandwich came with pub chips which are seasoned steak fries and cole slaw. My girlfriend ordered the Shamrock Chicken Sandwich which was the other sandwich I was going back and forth about. The char-grilled chicken breast came basted with a spicy shamrock sauce topped with bacon, aged white cheddar, and lettuce on the same brioche roll that I had. The chicken was good but maybe a little over done. The sauce wasn’t too spicy on the sandwich. She said she didn’t any hint of heat at all until she took a bite of the bun without the chicken. The spicy had soaked into the bread and she wasn’t expecting it. Her meal, like everyone elses came with the pub chips and coleslaw. My dad got The Mongahan Meatloaf Melt. I thought that was an interesting choice, but I’m not a meatloaf fan. I’ll only eat my own. The sandwich is a slice of meatloaf that is grilled and basted with a Guinness BBQ sauce then set on a slice of sourdough bread that has been toasted. The sandwich is topped off with aged white cheddar and onion straws. I know he doesn’t like the taste of Guinness, but he never said anything about the BBQ sauce other than it was good. He orders these open-faced type sandwiches most places we go. He seemed to really like the sandwich. Usually he makes faces when there’s something he doesn’t like and I never noticed it. My mom also got an interesting sandwich. She ordered the TRLT (pronouced “turtle”). It’s a twist on a classic BLT, but with a slice of turkey. Instead of American bacon, they put rasher bacon on instead (that’s the “R” in the title). The other twist with the sandwich is hard-boiled egg. She was a little leery of that addition at first, but warmed up to it and really liked it. She ended up ordering a lunch special which was a half sandwich and soup or salad. None of the soup sounded good so she went with salad. She asked for french dressing, but the waiter said they don’t have any red dressings, so she went with ranch. At first, I think she was a little worried about the different bacon and the eggs, but it ended up tasting much better than she hoped and she liked the sandwich. The damage wasn’t too bad. Just about $45 for the four of us. I had heard this place was a little expensive, but I didn’t think so. It’s definately worth a second visit and a good place to stop if you’re doing a little shopping.

My experience last night at Claddaghs will be my last. I had horrible customer service from the moment I got there. I sat at the bar waiting for my group of friends, and the bar tender was more annoyed than helpful that I sat at the bar (and was one of 3 people at the bar). When I asked if they had specials, her response was "Happy hour is until 6"...still wondering what the specials were I asked again...this continued 2 more times until she finally gave me the prices. When my friends came and we sat for our dinner, we had 2 coupons for free appetizers. We handed them both to the waitress and told her that we would have 2 different checks for the table. The appetizers came out and after we had eaten all but 1/2 of 1 appetizer, the waitress informed us that the manager would not grant us the coupon because its for 1 per table. She said she would check again (since we had eaten it already) and the manager supposedly said "No!" so the waitress said that she would cover it herself since it was her fault. I appreciated that, but was not going to make a waitress cover our appetizer. However, when we ordered our meal and ordered 2 specials of the day BOGO fish n chips, the waitress brought out 4 plates of the fish n chips cut in half. She thought we were sharing 1 fish n chips between 2 people for the "special of the day". When we explained the confusion she said "oh, that will be easy ill just combine these 2 plates and get you 2 more fish"...so 2 of us at the table, had a fish that was cut in half, but worse put back together by the waitress in the kitchen. The check took 35 minutes to get...and when she finally brought it out, she mentioned that the manager hadnt taken the 1 appetizer off. I still think she was trying to get us to say that we would just pay for it. After the 2 hours we were there, I was no longer willing to take on that cost. It was another 15 mins before we had paid our meal with how long it took her to bring the check back. I walked out of there thoroughly irritated with everything that had happened in our time there, and was the only one walking out in the lobby area and the hostess group of 2 girls and a guy (could have been the manager from his outfit) were too busy flirty to even say "goodbye". I was unimpressed in so many ways and will not be going back there to pay for overpriced pub food again! Thank god the fish n chips are good, or I would have walked out on my bill.

Dont go there!! I love eating out. I like trying new things. I am not a picky eater (unless it involves a salad). Ive been in and out of Claddagh for 5+ years. Something happened 3 years ago because they changed their menu quite a bit. Things either stayed the same price, or got more expensive while they decreased the amount of food you got. I used to LOVE their Shepherds pie, but last time I tried it, it was gamey and absolutely disgusting. I also really liked their fish and chips, but I dont know what they did to that either, but its anything BUT good. I went in there for their drink specials few weeks ago with friends. Their appetizers are not bad, and I was going to use a coupon they had sent me. To my displeasure, my friends and I waited for 15 minutes, after being seated (no exaggeration, I kept checking my watch because I was disgruntled). The waitstaff wondered back and forth from the table next to us to wherever else they were needed even though the restaurant was pretty empty. It was a week night and we were the only other people in the WHOLE section other than the people next to us. We finally got up and walked out, and by the time we got from the very back of the restaurant to the front, a waitress seemed to have notice the big group of us leaving. She never came out to apologize and the hostess couldve careless. It was by far THE worst experience Ive had dining. I took my money to a local Applebees where I paid less than half of what I would have and though their food isnt exquisite, at least I could get the server to take my order. I will never go to Claddagh or recommend it to anyone. You could do so much better with your money than pay for their less than impressive service and the overpriced, poor excuse for food. The atmosphere is dark, and definitely is like a pub but doesnt really do a great job of staying classy at the same time. The furniture is uncomfortable.
