Food is pretty good, though a little overpriced. But my real complaint is with their managements unwillingness to be helpful or reasonable. I went in for the $5 off burger special at 5:40, and the deal goes until 6. I was told that it would be 10 minutes for a table, but not wanting to push my luck on time, I was told by the hostess that we could sit at the bar instead and still receive full service. Great, we took the offer and sat at the bar. After waiting a while, the bartender comes over and asks for our IDs. Well my friend wasnt 21, so he says that were not allowed to sit at the bar and must grab a table. Thats fine, though it wouldve been nice to know. So we go back to get a table, and are told its going to be 20 minutes now, which was past 6, but since we were here already theyd give us the burger special regardless. Great. So we wait. Sure enough, we get seated by 6:05, and inform the waitress of the special that we were promised. She said she just had to check with the manager, but it should be fine. Manager comes over and says "Sorry guys, deal ends at 6, and I cant do anything for you." I expressed our situation and that wed been waiting a half hour, specifically because wed been promised the food special. He tells us "I dont know what they told you but the deal ends at 6 and its after 6 now, sorry." So we told him to give our table to someone else and we left. I cant imagine recommending this place when the management is so unhelpful and rude.

First I want to say that Hopcat has AMAZING food! Unfortunately, almost every time I order take out, something is wrong with my order, usually small things like side pickles, or missing or wrong soup when I have already paid a head of time. Last night was the worst of them all though, I ordered two grilled cheeses, one with bacon and one without. I also ordered one side of cheese for the fries. My total bill was $27.45 and I thought this was odd because that was a really high bill for grilled cheese. It started with the money because I like to work with change and I gave the bartender $40.50, he gave me back $13 even, trying to give him a break, I did not fuss about the nickel, but off of principle, that is my money and not for someone else to decide if they should give me the right change or not. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt and still tipped him when I received my order. I arrive home and see bacon on both grilled cheese sandwiches, and no dipping cheese in sight. Over all I over paid my bill of $28.50 for two grilled cheese sandwiches that did not come out as I had ordered them. The bartender did not write down my order, and he did not give me a reciept before I paid because I trusted he got the order right. I feel like I got duped, because of the lack of recipt, lack of writing my order down, missing cheese, extra charge for bacon on a sandwich I ordered no bacon on, and for leaving a tip!

Service was pretty slow to start one time and decent on another. Im not sure how many stars to give here. The first time was with a group and managed to get quality service and my perception was that it taking a bit of time for us all to be served was okay because we were a group and it was Friday night. The second time I started off alone at the bar on a Sunday evening and it took 15-20 to get a beer. I know single patrons can be hard to serve, as a cast we get bored quickly and cant be handled by the table, but I felt the bartenders couldve asked which beer I wanted in their multiple trips by me. The food is good. The beer is good. The art is terrible. Others have already written about these things. Ill probably go there again, but not a lot if I feel ignored.

We went in for dinner on a Sunday night and had an all-around disappointing experience. There was a wait for tables even though the restaurant was no more than 1/3 full and both ordering and receiving our food took much too long. We both ordered their signature Bar Zee burger cooked medium. After a very long wait, we both got burgers that were cooked well done and very dry. We sent our burgers back without making a big deal about it and the manager came over to apologize, which is a nice touch. However, the second burgers came out over done as well, although not nearly as bad as the first ones. Im willing to allow for a mistake but here is where they earned their 2 star rating; screwing up the redo of a nearly $12 is pretty unforgivable.

The good: cool layout with seating available outdoors, on the main floor, and a 2nd floor. Amazing choices of beers, of course. Great happy hour specials. The not so good: 2-1/2 hour light dinner. In fairness, we had a group of about 10, but it took a half hour before our orders were taken, another half hour or so until our orders came, and after we finished another half hour before our checks came. My burger was good, but had a little too much flavor from whatever else was on the grille. The bun was great. I had heard the fries were amazing; Id say they were good, but Ive had better at fast food places. I think its a hallmark of brew houses, but the acoustics make it insanely loud and hard to hear people right next to you.

Saying they have a great beer selection is an understatement. With 100 taps, they always have a plethora of options for every taste. I usually cant decide on just one, so will opt for a flight. They recently had a Wood and Wild event where they offered 65 different BBA and sour selections, which in my opinion, was pure beer heaven. Not a fan of the food besides their infamous crack fries. Everything else Ive had there over the last year is mediocre at best. The food was much better when they first opened and has steadily declined. Since they cater mostly to a college crowd, Im sure food is secondary to them. Service is okay. Servers are usually kind of friendly and timely enough with food and beverages.

Amazing brunch!! and dont get me started on how delicious the crack fries are at Hopcat. I am thoroughly addicted to Hopcat after eating there for the first time in Lansing! The best part is they are a Michigan chain and there is one even closer to me in Kalamazoo and there is even one in Ann Arbor which is another of my favorite hangout cities. I have yet to eat anything that was delicious and full of flavor at Hopcat and that even includes a few vegetarian options Ive tried like The Kitchen Sink (which I would highly recommend trying). If you go on Saturday and Sunday during the morning/early afternoon they have a brunch menu, a Bloody Mary bar, and you can get beermosas. How perfect is that!!

Not impressed with my last few trips to HopCat. Parking is a pain in the ass to start with. On tap of that we were told it was a 20 minute wait when there were open tables all over the restaurant. Same for outside where no one was seated. We went into the bar area, got some drinks and grabbed one of the open tables. Not much later a manager type came over and told us we had to leave the table so they could seat people. The table and two others in the bar remained open the whole time we were there. Heres a suggestion, leave the bar tables as first come first serve and seat people in the rest of the place. Not a place I will hurry back too.
