Was very surprised on how my friends and I were treated. Wouldnt let me make a reservation a day before since my party was only 8 and was not 10+. So we walked in around 7:30 and the manager said we were next and would have our table by 8:30. He sat us at a small bar top and had the waitress convince us to order drinks. It came to 8:30 still no table & so one of my friends asked and the hostess told us there is 2 parties of 10 in front of us, I was fuming. This was not told to us when entering the restaurant and if it was we would have left. My friends got us a table at Mangia Mangia right away and when another one asked our waitress about paying for the drinks she rolled her eyes as if it was a chore. Least to say the tip was minimal. I will not be going back to the Union. You can keep your expensive steak and weird ass gator pasta.

I ordered the roasted artichoke salad for lunch which I "turned into a meal" by adding grilled chicken. The description sounded good with roasted artichoke hearts, peppers, tomatoes, kalamata olives, onion, basil, and feta cheese. However it was no more than a small plate, barely enough to consider a side plus chicken. The "roasted artichoke hearts" were nothing more than straight-out-of-the-can marinated artichoke halves (not hearts) which came with one slice of canned red bell pepper, a few canned and pitted cheap olives, dried basil flake and barely a crumb or 2 of feta cheese. And besides that, the chicken was extremely dry and tasted like it had been sitting around uncovered in the cooler. I have no problem paying up to $10-20 for lunch, but I expect it to be something more than canned food and leftover meat.

I had almost given up on a quality lunch in my hometown. It seems there is a terrible trend of bad service and mediocre food here right now. Our server made us feel as if she was expecting us and that it was her pleasure to spend time with us. The seafood gumbo on Mardi Gras was wonderful! The room wasnt cold (even by the window!), the music wasnt too loud, the bartender came over to fill us in on some information and was friendly... Can you believe we got our food right away? Got our check right away? I thought I was dreaming. The Union is my new favorite place for lunch in Kalamazoo. Thank you Millenium for paying attention and making my lunch a great one on a cold February day.

Ive been here a few times and always enjoyed it. But my most recent experience is worth sharing. I ordered the mahi mahi to try something new, and was surprised by the slightly thicker consistency than most fish. I wasnt complaining, just asking the waiter if it was normal, and they assured me that it was for that meat. However, he offered to take it to the chef to make sure, the chef said he could do a better job and made a fresh one anyways. Its really impressive that the staff holds themselves to that high of a standard without a request or even a complaint from the customer. This group paid excellent attention to detail.

This place seemed nice, but the chicken Cesar salad was the worst piece of garbage meal I have ever had. I am embarrassed at myself for not saying something and sending it back. They dont even cut up the lettuce- they literally cut a head of romain salad in half (long ways) and drizzle the tiniest amount of dressing on it and call it a salad. Its laughable, and almost worth getting just to see for yourself how ridiculous and pathetic it is. Everyone that lets that "salad" get out of the kitchen should be ashamed of themselves. Otherwise, the restaurant is unique and looks cool. I just hate that salad.

The Union has the most consistently good live music of any place in town. Monday nights feature Dan Willenburgs jazz trio Tuesday nights often feature different acoustic duos and trios Wednesday nights are the WMU jazz open jam run by Matt Epperson, a local bassist. Thursday nights feature local and regional jazz acts often from Western Michigans school of music. Friday is blues night featuring different local blues acts. Saturday is rock/ pop/ cover night! Music is 8-11 monday-thursday and 9-12:30 friday and saturday.

Went there for lunch after the Holiday Parade. A Happy run in since my Family & I were hungry, cold, and you were the closest. Had a small wagon for the kids and they let us bring it in and set it to the side. With a total of 4 small kids and 4 adults, we were properly waited on, attended to, and the food was great tasting! I was amazed at how much food came with the kids meals, and I apologize for the little bit of a mess they made. I will definitely revisit and spread good word. -Chad (11152014@appox1230hrs)

Love the atmosphere and the food is to die for! I had the gumbo and can honestly say I havent had some as good since a trip to New Orleans. I also highly recommend the bloody mary, I believe the one I had was called a bloody bucket or something along those lines, hands down the best ones in the area. They also have somewhere like 5 different variations.

Walked in and promised a table by 8:30, but at 8:30 we were notified that there were 2 more parties ahead of us. After she convinced us to order drinks, so when we got a table at a different restaurant we waited 30 more minutes to pay for the drinks so we could leave and get some actual dinner.

I personally disliked it because of the menu choices. If you like seafood this is probably the place for you. I cant stand seafood, hence the poor rating. However, the chicken gumbo was phenomenal and I like how you get slices of bread with your soup. Service was pretty good as well.

One of my favorite places to be! The food selection is limited, but I never go there for the food! The atmosphere is where its at. The live music never disappoints, and the wait staff is always very nice. Recommended to ANYONE who loves Jazz.

Awful service, we were guaranteed a spot by 8:30 pm after waiting an hour, not telling us there were two parties of 10 infront of us In line. We then went to a restaurant down the street with amazing service. will not be going back.

The food was so-so, the drinks average price, and the band absurdly loud for such a small venue. The wait staff was polite, but stretched way too thin. The redeeming quality was that the band that night was really, really good.

I would recommend calling ahead on a weekend night and asking what kind of music will be on stage. If its your type of groove have a late dinner enjoy the sounds and order the Blackened Chicken Pasta you will love it!

One of the best experiences Ive had in Kalamazoo thus far. Great food, and even better music. The vibe was perfect. Musicians were amazing and topped the night off with a jam session. Will most definitely be back.
