My husband and I decided to hit up this place as I have had a craving for good sushi ever since moving out here from Vancouver, Canada almost three years ago. Fuji Yama did not disappoint! The decor was excellent. Sleek, yet inviting and comfortable. I found myself looking around in admiration -- the hibachi rooms especially look great from what I saw. We sat at the sushi bar and were treated to complimentary seafood salads while we waited -- delicious! Topped with sesame and really subtle in flavor. Definitely something that I would be willing to try again. As far as actual ordering goes, we got the sushi boat for two. It comes with miso soup and a garden salad with ginger dressing to start. Now, usually at sushi restaurants I find that the ginger dressing is overpowering. I can honestly say that this wasnt the case this time around -- easily the best ginger dressing that both my husband and I have ever had. They didnt skimp on the seaweed and tofu in the miso soup either, for which we were grateful. A very pleasant start to a very pleasant meal. When we got out boat, the presentation was excellent. Not only that, but every bit of it was delicious. The only thing that I could wish for was some kind of picture list or some-such of what it was that we were eating. Much of it would be obvious to those of us who are sushi regulars, but it would be excellent to be able to easily pinpoint what certain things are that could be ordered (or avoided, depending on if there was something that you found less enjoyable) next time. The boat was just shy of $50, which can seem expensive for a meal for two, but it was one that I recommend. The value is actually quite excellent, as well. The price for the overall soup/salad/boat is quite a bit cheaper than it would be to have ordered all of the pieces individually. It was also more than enough food for two and we ended up taking much of it home and enjoying it for lunch the next day. Service was great, but we were there at an odd time -- maybe 4:30-ish in the afternoon. I have no complaints about the service, but we were the only visible customers in there at the time. Id definitely have to go back again during a busier service to get a more accurate picture. Maybe Ill try the hibachi next time. Itll be hard to pass up the opportunity for such fantastic sushi though.

Afternoon world.. Team building was full of fun and laughter until the first sniffle and noise drip. No not me, nor my team members. It was the Chief at Fugi Yama at 1501 E Beltline Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. I watched in horror as the chiefs noise got wet , turned into a big teardrop an then a long sting and dripped onto the hibachi grill where my food was. I said something to the person on my right. The response- Did I hear what I think you said? Skipping some details I got up and found a manger and reported the problem. The manager said we will give you new meals from the kitchen. Thinking?? And them some.. I returned to my seat. Watched more sniffles and more drips onto the grill and food. No dam way. Time is passisng,,,,,,,, Thinking were the hell did the manager go? One of my co-workers later told me the manager was standing back and watched the chief and then disappeared. In the meanwhile, I am watching the drip show. The manager did come to the station and called the chief aside. The manage said to the chief she was going to pull him and put him in the kitchen. The chief said no, he was staying there. The manager turned and walked away and the chief stepped back tot eh grill and started dishing up the veggies to each of us. What the hell, the manager left, the chief returned, not to mention the thought to correct the problem was to put the noise dripping chief into the Kitchen where my next meal was coming from?? No xxxxxx way.. Everything about this was wrong. I said to the group. Lets go. I got up and told the others people sitting across the grill from us, they got up to leave also. The manage walked up and said she was going to move us. I said yes, to a different establishment and left. I just finished my last meal with Fujiyama, which is very disappointing. My wife and I and many of my business associates had enjoyed eating here in the past, but their food quality and service has diminished significantly over the last year. Today my friend and I ordered the "All you can eat" sushi lunch special. When the order finally arrived at our table we were dissappointed to see that the nigiri we had ordered were huge balls of rice with tiny slivers of fish pressed ontop, really poorly made sushi. We called the waitress over to let her know there is a problem with our sushi. The menu clearly states you need to eat all the rice served with the sushi, but this is exceptionally poorly made sushi. So we tell our waitress we dont want to send the order back because they have already taken 1/2 hour to bring it out. Instead well just trim the rice back, but we dont want to be charged because were telling them ahead of time this is their fault for not making good sushi. She confirms and proceeds to service the rest of our lunch without saying a word, but when the bill arrives we find out they are charging us $5 dollars each for uneaten rice!!! We talk to the manager/owner and explain that we talked to the waitress about the poor quality of the suishi and that we should have been told if this was going to be an issue. We would have sent the order back. He doesnt care - He says we have to pay ... for extra rice on bad sushi. I refuse, and he then agrees to change the bill, but then says - Im the owner and I dont want your business anymore. What an ass!!! This man deserves to go out of business with that level of customer service. Fujiyamau, you have lost my business, my families, my client, my peers, and everyone I can tell. Congrats, you killed business for your bad food, followed by bad service, and finally extremely rude behavior. Because the

Wow, is it nice outside! The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and people go by on bikes. Both of us start with a tall, cold Sapporo beer to whet the appetite. The lunch menu is quite inexpensive and you get a lot of food. It only takes a few glances to know what I want: Massaman! With lunch, you get your choice of soup or salad. I’m not a huge fan of Asian soups so I get the salad. It is a little side salad of iceberg, shredded carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion. Pretty standard, right? But the kicker is the orange vinaigrette dressing, which freshens up the whole dish. Our main platters come out, the curry steeping in metal bowls. I chose the fried rice because it has peas in it, and since Juliet hates peas, we hardly ever eat them at home. This is a treat for me! I also choose an eggroll, which is tightly fried with the usual cabbage slaw inside. It’s super hot, but not bad for an eggroll. I dump rice into the Massaman curry stew then give it a good stir. The first bite is good, but not out-of-this-world good. I take it slow the rest of the way, and the longer I wait, the better everything tastes. Because I know we’ll be having a big dinner that night, I chose tofu for my curry. It is hot and spongy, but does a good job of absorbing the spicy coconut broth. All the veggies—red peppers, green peppers, onions, green potatoes, mushrooms—are very fresh and tasty. You can tell everything is made fresh to order. No room for dessert, unfortunately, and no room left for another refill of brewski. I do miss Famous Dave’s (this location seemed to serve better food than the other) but Fuji Yama is a decent replacement. I can’t say they serve the best Massaman I’ve had, but it’s a solid fallback choice. The food is prepared with skill and love. As long as the sun keeps shining, we’ll probably be back to enjoy their deck and their cold beer.
