Im not Italian. Ive never been to Italy. I do love pizza, though. And after hearing so much hype about this Eastern Market joint, I finally was able to try it out on my own. What a disappointment. Maybe its because I enjoy the American version of pizza, favoring Buddys, Louis, or -- heck -- Little Caesars Deep Deep Dish. Or maybe its that I dont have good taste. Either way, I tried it, and dont plan on returning. Wait times are long. I get it. Thats probably part of the charm of a hip place such as this. But its pizza. A maximum cook time is probably 10-minutes for a charred outcome. Especially on a hot summer afternoon, its a downer to have to wait 30-minutes for a plain pizza when there are only a handful of patrons in the place [the place was full -- but its so small only a handful of people can possibly be there at a time]. If youre looking for custom thin-crust pizza, just go to a place like Mod Pizza or Blaze. Youll have a better tasting, mass-marketed pizza that is ready much quicker, and will get to eat it in a place where (a) you wont have to constantly wonder if you locked your car, and (b) youll pay around 70% of the cost youll fork over at Supino.

Wanted to see what all the hype was about, walked in on a Friday night the open sign was still on, casually approached the cashier couldnt even get two words out and she mumbled "We closed", the place was clearly not cleaning up to go home any time soon especially since they were still cooking pizzas right in front of our eyes. We were rather stunned and she goes "We closed!" again, we turned around and will NEVER step foot in this place again. Its a shame that a ruthless worker can destroy a business name. Unfortunately, I work with people every day and wouldnt stand a chance if my attitude portrayed such a negative tone like hers did. I guess it happened for a reason, we went to Buddys instead and slammed a wonderful greek pizza instead! :)

**** see update on expansion at bottom of review**** Great Pizza here. I have found the best timing is to come in about an hour before the market is closing, place your order, grab a seat and your pizza will be ready to enjoy without a wait in line for any length of time. So far it has worked every time! I like my pizza with cheese and fresh basil, very basic, but you can get fancy smancy here!! This is the real deal for those of you who love the little grease pools pepperoni. The crust here is thin yummy and I only ask that they dont pop the bubbles, those are my favorite part!! *** 2/11/17*** They have opened up the wall to the space next door so the seating issue isnt as bad anymore, still crowded, but not nearly as bad!

My wife and I went to Supinos for the first time yesterday after eagerly wanting to go ever since it opened. Waited about 30 minutes to order our a pizza, then another 40 or so for it to be cooked. There was nowhere to sit, so we got the pizza to go. I have to say, the pizza was alright...but man, it didnt even come close to living up to all the hype I had heard. "Best pizza ever?" Not even close. "Best pizza in Detroit?" I dont think so. Im glad I finally made it to Supinos, but I dont think Id ever go through that wait for one of their pizzas again. I wanted to LOVE the pizza. I really did. It just didnt do it for me. But its nice to see a restaurant thriving in downtown Detroit.

Ok, I get it. Pizza is a sensitive subject. How can one compare the value pizzas like Howies and Dominos to the Detroit styles like Buddys and Sheilds, to the artisan styles like Biga, Crispeli and Supinos? It cant be done! They all have their place and roles in the pizza spectrum. Than being said....Supinos is the best. Dave actually went to Italy and learned. About pizza. There is a reason they have the longest line in all of Eastern Market every Saturday. There is a reason theyll quote you 2.5 hours for a pie during peak times. And it hurts me to include 17125 Conant St., but its because there is simply no better pizza pie in all of Metro Detroit than Supinos Pizzeria.

True story: I took a New Yorker friend here who was so impressed, he genuinely wondered if Supinos imports its water from New York! (Gotta love New Yorkers, am I right?) This is a small rustic space serving thin crust pizza that is so good, you will be surprised how much your stomach can stretch! While I like all the pizzas here, my favorite is the Bismarck (aka the egg): its a red sauce pizza with chunks of fresh mozzarella, prosciutto (or turkey), and sunny side up egg cracked right on top. Delicious! Its location in the Eastern Market makes it perfect to walk off that good food and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Detroit.

Saw this pizzeria on Guy Fires triple D on the food network. These pizzas are truly awesome. The pizzas come in a 12" or 16" traditional hand tossed thin crust. My wife loves the pepperoni and I always try something a little different. I tried the el Greco which is a white pizza topped with spinach, onions, feta cheese and kalamata olives. The next visit I had the supino which was topped with red peppers (Not a spicy pepper) kalamata olives, chunks of whole roasted garlic cloves, mozzarella, and follows of ricotta cheese. Both pizzas were very good and I would order them again. This is a must go to restaurant.

Supinos, across from Eastern Market, has some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. This is quite controversial for a native Chicagoan to declare, but there is only so much doughy deep dish you can take before you need a little thin crust. We ordered a large cheese for just the two of us, although there are lots of good flavors and we could have just ordered slices. At Supinos, you start eating and your tastebuds immediate try to convince your stomach that it has more room. Its a whole digestive inaccurate fuel gauge thing. For whatever oh-I-cant-move-I-ate-too-much pain you are in afterward, it is worth it.

Our waiter was also the bartender and 20 after we order he had come back to ask us what we had ordered. He is to busy talk to the people at the bar to even acknowledge the other tables he had. Its also had taken him 10 minutes to get water. So over all Im not impressed by the staff who had sat around seeing coustumers where not being helped and didnt do anything about it. The pizza was ok but the bottom was a little burnt and soggy. I have come to an understanding why people spend about an hour there because of the slow service even if there is no one in the establishment. Never coming back again.

Everything has changed at Supinos. There is now a sit down area located in the space previously occupied by the restaurant to the south. You enter through the door always used but now you are greeted by a host/hostess. If you are dining in you will be seated in the dining area and a server will take your order at the table. Alcohol is available. The pizza is still as good as always! There are daily pizza and pasta specials. Dave has hit a winning combination. No more struggling for a place to sit. Carryout orders will continue to be placed in the normal location.
