First off they serve ice cold George Killians Irish Red! Second they have billiards. Also I think they serve delicious food however I came her to get drunk/play billiards in a comfortable atmosphere... Thats it. Mission accomplished! And yes they have tons of Red Wing flare on the walls including but not limited to signed hockey sticks! Also they have a very kool newspaper article with Kirk Gibson on the page talking about the World Series in 1984 where the the Tigers beat the Padres! I remember that series and collected those trading from the era. Bottom line The Anchor Bar is basically similar to the Hockey town Cafe with a few exceptions... 1 this place has a pulse!...2 this place feels comfortable as opposed to the aforementioned establishment... Also you may not like everyone here but at least we are not here to impress anyone I get the opposite feeling at the other place. Bottom line skip Hockey town Cafe and go to Anchor Bar unless you want to be seen wearing your favorite Red Wing player uniform than u are where u should be.

Went here before a Red Wings game, very busy. We ordered boneless buffalo wings, nothing else, and took over 30 minutes to come out. When they did come, they didnt have any sauce on them! It even took a few minutes before we could get someone to bring us sauce. They were very crunchy on the outside. At that point, we were worried about being late to the game. Great place to pour down a few beers before the game, but thats it. Rest rooms were clean. I wont be back.

Working downtown, I would always drive by this place until I purchased a Groupon that would bring me to this bar during lunch hours. I absolutely loved my food! I got the Mercier sandwich and tater tots which was a great choice. Its conveniently located, theres street parking available and I was in and out within five minutes for my carry-out order. This place is a new favorite for me.

Looks like a nice neighborhood bar for any city. I am staying at the DoubleTree Hilton around the corner and did a walk-by. Its open, has nice customers, and looks like a nice place. Give it a try if youre looking for a neighborhood bar. I ended up at the London Chop House ... megabucks, but extremely nice. (My Food and Service ratings are a guess. Google made me do it.)

Anchor is a classic dive bar, and a popular spot for spots fans headed to a game downtown. Its perfect walking distance to Joe Louis Arena, and they have a shuttle bus to take fans to the other stadiums downtown, which is super convenient. It can get pretty noisy on game days, but has been fairly low key on the the other times Ive visited.

Come here for hockey and a beer, enjoy great food. This place is a go to grab a drink or a burger. The food is wonderful and better than you would expect for a place that looks this way. A great staff and a great place to enjoy the hockey game. Make sure you are cheering on the Red Wings or you will get crap from the other fans :)

Great dive bar, with a good old dirty bar burger. Do not come here expecting anything more. Good beers on tap and strong drinks. The people who came here are hit and miss sometimes its fun others unwelcome feeling. they have music that you can pick as well for a few bucks which can be good or bad depending who is there.

Terrible service. Waited for a refill for 15 minutes. Gave me onion rings instead of fries, realized their mistake, said they were making fresh fries, then never brought them. Never even said sorry. Nothing off my bill, nothing. At least I saved some money on the tip.

We went in for burgers and a beer before the wings game took 15 minutes to get a pitcher of beer ordered burgers and waited an hour and never got our order . We left money under the empty pitcher for beer and left .The worst service I have ever had in a downtown Bar.

A gleaming light of hope in a otherwise bleak city. Not the busiest, but the conversation is good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend as a hang out spot. Also very convenient for guests of the Double Tree.

Cool place. I sometimes get a drink here while Im waiting on the bus. Its a decent menu, fair prices and good service. Its usually the same crowd every time I go in there. I think most of the patrons that go here work for the newspaper or something.

Huge fan! Great downtown bar. Love coming here for burger for lunch or before a hockey game. Great service. Note, this is a popular destination before a hockey game, so If you stop in before a game, they will be busy so be patient, and be nice!

Nice enough place. Stopped by because we needed food before a hockey game. Not the most spacious place and the interior is a bit dated. Food wasnt bad but it wasnt the best either. Plenty of TVs for catching sports.

Very cool bar in Downtown Detroit. Great place to stop after a Red Wings game, although it can get crowded after games. Anchor Burger is excellent, and they have a pretty good selection of beer.

Great place for pre- and post- Wings drinking. And although I understand the plastic cup policy, Ill never be OK with it. Theres something wrong with drinking bourbon out of a dixie cup.

Found about The Anchor Bar from people we met on the people mover. Good food, friendly staff, fast service. Prices were very reasonable, especially for being downtown. Will go again.

Perfect spot to grab a burger and beer while ambling around downtown. Popular with Wings fans and notorious among local journalists the Anchor Bar is a local staple worth a visit.

Food was great, service left a bit to be desired. Reeked of cigarettes, there was a lady smoking in the front room and there were multiple cigarette butts in the bathroom

Love this place. Food is so so, but the experience and atmosphere is great for wings games! Plus you got to love the bus ride to and from the game, fun and convenient.

Great place to watch the game and have a drink or 5 ;). Good food also. Wait staff is polite and prompt. Although it was not very busy the night we were in.

Great craft selection, food is usually great as long as the grease is fresh and has a "Cheers" like enviroment as there are a lot of regulars.

A total dive bar, in the best possible way! Friendly service, quick lunches, etc. The high-backed booths make it easy to have conversation.
