To Whom it May Concern: On Saturday, January 30th - my fiancé and I threw our engagement party at your establishment for 30 people. Never again will I set foot in Union Street. 1st - Ginger missed two scheduled appointments with my host Sierra, one of which she was actually in the restaurant smoking and drinking at the bar and the other - she never called to apologize or reschedule. The reason we felt the need to meet with Ginger is because many things were left unclear- including a question I had about purchasing alcohol - something I asked Ginger in an e-mail but that she NEVER responded to. You lost money - because I planned to buy the first round of drinks for everyone - but instead I told people to go to the bar to order - so fewer people bought drinks. 2nd - Ginger spelled my name incorrectly on our menu - something I corrected in an e-mail dated 11/23/09 (included) - to which she responded that she had corrected the error. So - not only were the menus passed out with the incorrect spelling -but a few other terrible things happened - a. my maid of honor asked to see them to make sure they were correct when she first arrived and no one brought them out, b. we had to request that copies of the menu be passed out after waiting an hour, c. new copies had to be requested with the correct spelling, d. the new copies came out sporadically and smudged because the ink was still wet and e. they were handed out as sheets of paper and not in the menu holders. Now - How is it possible that for an event planned since 11/23/09 - that the menus come out incorrect. Thats just a lack of caring on your establishments part. 3rd - all of our tables were not empty by the reservation time of 6:30 and my mother, my fiances mother, grandmother and aunt were told to wait even though part of our party was already seated. 4th - we had to ask the waitress to come take our orders - this did not occur until 30 minutes after we had FINISHED our appetizers. 5th - the staff didnt even know what type of event we were having and kept referring to it as our wedding. I am so disgusted by how your staff cared so little for an event that was so very important to us. We cant repeat that event. There will be no second chance to have an engagement party. I caution you and your staff to take better care of future customers - especially in these hard times when people are very careful where they spend their money. I have been asked to write a few reviews on a number of wedding blogs and sites about my experiences with Union Street and will do so in the upcoming months. Sincerely and Unhappily, AmB.

Union Street has fallen off precipitously. I can remember a time, some twenty years ago, when this restaurant was a first rate casual brasserie. However, my last visit, after a long hiatus, was a clinic in poor customer service and overpriced epicurean mediocrity. My companion ordered some kind of tarted-up buffalo wings. When they arrived at the table, they were just dry wings with small thimbles full of dipping sauce. When asked to have them tossed in sauce, as is the natural state of buffalo wings, the waitress replied that it could not be done. When the manager came over to the table, he repleted the same flat refusal to accommodate the request for properly prepared wings. Then, he turned and walked away before my companion had finished detailing her displeasure. My own meal was no better. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich. I was of significantly lower quality that any chicken sandwich on the menu at Wendys. The tiny "chicken breast" looked to have been a formed chicken-like product comprising a slurry of poultry processing byproducts and a thick coating of breading to obscure its industrial origins. It was the kind of chicken sandwich that one would expect to see on the menu of a Federally funded public school free lunch program.

Disregard my food rating, Im mainly commenting on the poor service. We didnt even stay for the food. I came with my boyfriend on a slow Monday and we were seated right away which was great, but we didnt see our waitress for at least five minutes. I asked her about a company discount thats pretty well known, but she was unaware of it. We ordered waters and my 22-year-old boyfriend ordered a beer, but his enhanced MI drivers license looked suspicious, so she called her manager over. She refused to serve him drinks because she didnt know how enhanced IDs worked When I ordered an entree off of the menu (most entrees are $16-20), the waitress was unfamiliar with it and needed to copy the name off of the menu. After fifteen minutes of waiting and not even receiving water, we politely told them wed be leaving. The food may be good but the staff was too ignorant about their own business for us to wait for it. If you run a business that serves drinks, you need to know how to properly check IDs.

I have had several great experiences at Union Street; from first dates to Sunday Brunch to late-night drinks with friends. The menu is vast and ecclectic offering some of the more unique dishes (and delicious!) I have tried in the Downtown Detroit Area. The atmosphere (despite being dimly lit, which creates a creat ambiance) is upbeat and there can always be a good conversation to be had with any patron or bartender at the bar. The one BIG complaint I do occasionaly have is with the servers. One more than one occasion, our meals have taken over an hour to come out of the kitchen, drink orders were forgotten, dishes left unbussed. On one trip, our server seemed to vanish for 20 min while we waited to pay our bill. I should point out that this is not the norm but has happened to often to ignore. I do understand the nature of the restaurant industry but to be considered as one of Detroit finer resaurants, there should be a consistently high level of execution across all aspects.

YES! YES! AND YES! I would most definitely eat here again, and again! I tried eating here, the summer of last year, and I must say that I really enjoyed it! It was like a low-key spot to me, although, Ive pasted by more than a few times. Something told me to just go and check it out. Me being a native Detroiter, I just had to -- it was too tempting. The atmosphere was so relaxing, the staff and service was superb, the food was **gasping-food gasms** AHHHHAAAAAHHHYYEEESSSSSS! I tried the Dragon balls, salmon burger with coleslaw on top, and caesar salad. I recommend anyone who eats here to try the Dragon Balls!

This restaurant came highly recommended by friends so I was really looking forward to enjoying dinner before a 7:30pm show at the DSO. We ordered around 6pm and were not served our meals until 7:15pm. We barely had time to eat even half before heading to Orchestra Hall! Multiple waiters arrived at our table with other guests orders which was a tease, our waitress never refilled our water glasses and the food itself was a disappointment; my dates Jambalaya had a film over the top as if it had been sitting around for a while. Why such bad service on a Wednesday night?!
