First the good and only good. If you are looking for a place to grab a beer, they do this well. Now the bad. If you want to grab lunch at this place, I would suggest you avoid this place as the wait times between placing an order and eating will average about an hour. This would be the second time grabbing food from this place and both times were a let down. While the food is good, there is just not enough time to eat and enjoy it. The waitress seemed nice but gave us no indication of when our food would be out like it was the status quo to wait an hour. As we sat at our table we watched other tables waiting just as long or even longer than us. The carry out line looked in even worse shape as people walked out not bothering to even get food. It is hard to say if the kitchen is understaffed or not equipped to handle the lunch rush but this does leave a sour taste for people visiting Detroit. With the current resurgence of Detroit, Grand Trunk Pub needs to be on their A game or go to a much smaller and easier menu. Unfortunately, the negative reviews about the wait time during lunch are real but so are the positives about the beer service. If you want to grab a beer after work, great place. If you want to grab a bite for lunch, yeah, try somewhere faster.

Went here on Saturday before our work Christmas party. Waked in around 4pm and it was pretty packed. It died down a bit by the time we left 2 hours later. Had a good time and was happy with the craft beer selection. Have a good variety of local craft beers. Beforehand, I had gone on their website and read about the history of the place. I would suggest you do that as well because it lends itself very well to the look and feel of the place. The bar area is very narrow and crowded w/ additional table seating divided into a different section. There is also an upstairs which I believe may be for sampling whiskey or something of that nature. Not sure. Didnt try the food but from the table next to us, it looked and smelled very good. The waiter was a bit forgetful on a couple of occasions, but I wouldnt rank the place any lower because of it. He was prompt with our orders just couldnt quite remember who ordered what (there were only 5 of us). But considering it was really busy and he was always ready to take our orders when we ran out of beer, I think thats good enough. All in all I want to come back here. Its a fun place.

High hopes, low expectations, neither were met. I found this place on Google, and with all the great reviews and awesome pictures I was pretty excited to go here with my friend. While our waitress was nice enough my complaints are as follows - They serve brunch until 4 pm & offer no other choice - the food was mediocre at best -- I literally never put salt or pepper on anything and had to use loads to flavorize - we asked multiple times for extra sides we had requested at the start of ordering our meal and once again after receiving our food (which wasnt cooked properly & no replacement ever came) and still never received them. - after waiting 10-15 minutes for the waitress to come back my friend became the waitress instead and finally got the things she requested 1/5 would not recommend. We are not hard to please and I cant even remember the last time I complained about or sent back my food. I have never even written a Google review before but this place needed to be my first. Everything was resolved with the manager but unfortunately I cannot recommend Grand Trunk Pub to others and will not be back to try their food again.

So while I had been there once or twice before for a quick drink on my way somewhere else, last Sunday (6/11/17) was the first time I had gone there as my destination. On a date and after dinner, we headed to Grand Trunk for drinks and a low key environment. The staff was incredible and very accommodating. The bartenders were friendly, quick and extremely personable. At one point we were the only people sitting at the bar, but they never made us feel rushed but also gave us our space and checked back periodically. As a side note, the music was incredible. I asked one of the bartenders what it was and it was a Pandora station that the day manager had thrown on and they just let it run. It was a great mix that fit the vibe of the night. It wasnt too loud or genre specific, but it was perfect ambient music. I would recommend this place to any and all for fun spot in Detroit and I am genuinely looking forward to going there again.

I like the atmosphere of this place, but the downside is that they try to get as many customers in, so you cannot walk through the place, you are constantly rubbing elbows with the people at table next to you, and good luck if you are seated at the bar or on the aisle side of the table.... you will be getting hit with elbows, purses, and everything else from people walking by. Not to mention.... the service is terrible. Good place to go for a drink, or lunch, IF YOU HAVE AN HOUR TO WAIT AROUND for your food/drinks. Lunch time = Forget about it!! Good luck getting through on the phone lines if you want to order a carryout, you either get a busy signal, or it just rings and rings and then hangs up on you. Going in for lunch is not any better. Typical wait time for food, inside or carrying out is at least 45 minutes.

Went here while staying downtown for my birthday this past weekend. The food was delicious!! Plenty of vegetarian options (for me) and my family loved their non-veggie cuisine as well. I would definitely recommend the Deep Fried Green Beans. Also, a craft beer heaven. Unfortunately, the service was absolutely terrible. After finding our own table, the waiter was extremely rude about it being our first time there. It was as if we werent entitled to the beer list because we werent "cool enough".. Then after ordering our second round of drinks, we got our food, and didnt see our beers until after we were done eating. I am looking forward to going back, but I wish it was with more excitement because the atmosphere and food was on point.

Grand Trunk is great. The beer selection is always top notch, and the food is all greasy, deep fried goodness. Also, the service is usually pretty solid. The only knock I have is the setup on the bar side - I dont know if its an afterthought, or to maximize seating capacity, but the short tables along the wall opposite the bar are a rough spot to sit. It makes the aisle uncomfortably narrow, and its nearly impossible not to get bumped by other patrons every few minutes while sitting there. Something like a long counter with standing room or high top stools would probably work a lot better.

I took my wife there for our anniversary to try something different for dinner. The service was amazing! Our server Jason was on point, the food was amazing, Growing up in a 100% Irish family I was a little skeptical getting the Shepherds Pie, but I have to tell you it is the best shepherds pie that I have eaten since I was in Ireland. My wife got the fish and chips and that was on point too. There is a secure parking structure within a 3 minute walk with decent rates. They offer a military discount for those who earned it too. I would recommend this to everyone and I would go there again.
