I do not see why this place has earned such a good reputation - but maybe they are just talking themselves up...I ate at the restaurant for the first time today (after only having burgers as takeout years back) and I was not pleased. I am a vegetarian now, and at first I was happy with the vegetarian options. I wanted to order a black bean burger and before ordering I asked the waitress how it was prepared. She seemed very confused by the question so I had to clarify and spell it out for her by asking if they made the burgers themselves (which was a mistake, because then she clearly knew to just tell me what I wanted to hear). She said they do make them in house and they are not frozen. This is clearly a lie because when I got the burger it was very small and thin and uniformly shaped (odd, seeing as how they boast that they have "big" burgers any other time and it was served on an oversized bun...if they made the black bean patties in house wouldnt they make them oversized like the rest of their burgers?) and had the "spongey" texture of processed soy product (not visible grain and mashed beans like actual homemade burgers). I have been vegetarian long enough and eaten enough veggie burger patties (home made and frozen) to know that what they served me was a frozen patty (probably not Morningstar but Im guessing Garden Burger brand?). I essentially paid $10 for a sandwich that was mostly bun and lettuce and frozen patty (that I could buy 2 boxes of at the store for that price). My boyfriend got a pizza pocket (not sure what the difference is between that and a calzone, which they also serve, but whatever) which was dry and mediocre at best. Bottom line: we will not be returning. I am also complaining to the management about our waitress who was an uninformed flat out liar and extremely rude and condescending.

Pizza House has perfected the art of making bland, flavorless everything. Ill start with whats good: michigan cherry salad = tasty. Fried ravioli and fried vegetables are good, but fried food and salad is hard to mess up... except when you do, like their chicken tenders. The breading is so thin and flavorless that its like eating deep fried cutlets of chicken breast. Mmm hot stringy oil chicken; delicious. Then theres the pizza, which achieves a level of plain flavorlessness so great that its actually impressive. Our staff goes to pizza house to discuss stuff for the upcoming term, and we always order their deep dish, thin, and regular pizzas, and some fried stuff. A good pizza is more than the sum of its parts: dough, cheese, sauce, and toppings combine to form a harmony of flavor that is pizza (harmony is a cheesy way to describe this, but it hits closer than any other word I can think of). Pizza House, on the other hand, somehow manages to combine dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings into something that does not create the harmony that is pizza, but is more accurately described as cheese bread with tomato sauce layer and toppings. The ingredients just dont mix; they taste like all their separate parts in a way that is extremely bland and unsatisfying. People who say this pizza is good might not be aware of what pizza should taste like.

We ordered the Mediterranean in a Sicilian crust in the small size. With 3 slices each (we were a party of two), we were stuffed. The pizza was hot, fresh & crispy. Having had a horrible experience with the Chicago style deep dish elsewhere, i was not disappointed with the thickness of the crust! We ordered the strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Although the plate it was served in was unimpressive and so was the thin strawberry syrup we licked the plate clean!! The dollops of cream were sweet, the strawberries didnt taste frozen and the cheesecake was so satisfying. We were so full, i think the slice would be good enough to share for 3 people. Just the pizza, bottomless coke, & slice of cheesecake cost us 35 bucks. Not exactly cheap, but if youre looking to dine out, but just want to have something as ordinary as good pizza, you should go here. Definitely recommend it for an above average pizza. The cheesecake is the cherry on top ;)

Over-hyped and over-rated, U of M-pizza-themed rip-off. Tonight, my my friend and I were greatly disappointed by the Ann Arbor Pizza House restaurant. We had very slow service, just to even place an order. Secondly, the pizza we received was wrong order. If our server, Herb, is so keen about taking orders by memory, he should be able to get it right! We waited so long to order our pizza, that by the time we received it, we had no time to order a new one. Lastly, I have never been to a restaurant that does not bring refills for water! The server did not check on us once, but to give us our bill. I doubt he was busy because we watched him stand in the kitchen. I have always heard such great things about pizza house, but it is a shame that its expectations did not live up to the real thing. Terrible service and expensive mediocre pizza, are forcing me to eat out elsewhere.

After our daughters graduation today, we took the family to the Pizza House. This was our first and our last visit. The price per pizza is absolutely ludicrous--a large pizza with two toppings costing nearly $24 dollars. The salads were at least $14 each and they were mostly chopped lettuce and very little little else. Furthermore, the food was not that good--definitely not worth what we were charged. We spent $160 today on two pizzas, cheesy bread (which was the best thing we had), two salads, and two lunch dishes. Furthermore, the service was terrible. We asked for items that should have already been at our table and we didnt receive them. We also didnt receive any extra plates. We were completely shocked at the price, the poor quality of the food, and the absolutely terrible service. I would give this review zero stars, but one is the minimum allowed.

The restaurant was renovated around 2010, and is both comfortable and looks great. Its walking distance from the University of Michigan campus, though otherwise off the beaten path. Pizza house has great food, though its pricy and many items have a lot of salt. I recommend the deep-dish BBQ chicken pizza, though I recommend that you drink a lot of water with it or youll be parched the next day. Likewise, their chiapati sauce is great (also very salty). Be forewarned: the deep dish pizzas take a long time to cook (~40 minutes). But the wait is worthwhile. A major negative is that pizza house delivery staff drive very aggressively near the university. Also, pizza house implemented a delivery fee a few years ago when gas prices were high. This fee does not go to drivers, and makes the already-expensive food a particularly bad deal via delivery.

Good pizza, but super expensive. $24.39 for a medium pizza with 4 toppings (a medium is on the small size, so be careful. It seemed more like 10" rather than 12"). $2.59 for a coke, $1.69 for a kids drink. Total was $30.39 with tax, and we left hungry. $10 per person (two adults and a 3 year old) before a grat is way too much. On the upside, the service was good and the place was fairly kid-friendly. We arrived around 5:30 since we have a little one with us, and they stuck is in a corner which is actually good when you have a child! But then they seated 6 college guys in a booth right behind us when the whole place was basically empty. The guys were obviously not fond of kids talking a lot, and we hurried up and ate so that we wouldnt bug them any more. I think well try a different pizza place next time!
