Unfortunately I cannot give an accurate review of the food because I never got the chance to sit down. My b/f and I saw this place on tv and were excited to try it. When I looked it up online I saw that it had a dog friendly patio. Let me preface this review with stating that my dog is rather large, however she is very well socialized, attends doggie daycare regularly, has her Canine Good Citizen test, and has sat on many dog friendly patios over the years (without any problems). We arrived about 35 minutes prior to opening so we checked with the person setting up that we could indeed sit with the dog. We took a walk around and came back about 11:45 (opens at noon) There were already people waiting around by this point. I was standing off to the side with my dog who proceeded to bark at another dog passing by (if you havent been here its practically a large alley way so not much room passing through especially when people are lingering around the entrance). I grabbed her collar and told her NO. At this point a line had started to form and the teenage host was seating people. The dog she barked at is now in line continuously barking back. My dog gave two sharp barks initially but then ignored it. This dog continued to barked for the next 10 minutes. My b/f is waiting in line and I am off to the side. (I am standing here because although it may be dog friendly patio I realize not every person like dogs so I am being courteous of anyone in line who doesnt like dogs). We finally get to the front of the line and my bf asks for a table and the teenage host acted surprised we wanted a table and says "Im sorry I cannot sit you. We dont feel comfortable with your VICIOUS dog" when my b/f countered this statement he followed up with my dogs "scene" of barking. All while the dog behind us is STILL barking but its ok for them to be seated because it was a smaller dog. Regardless of being turned away, I resent that this place had us CONTINUE TO WAIT in line only to turn us away. Not to mention has the teenager, who I can only assume is working on summer vacation, tell me that me dog is "vicious". I find it very inappropriate to have the teenage employee deliver the message. If you are going to insult me and be so ignorant to call a dog "vicious" at least have the decency to send a manager out to talk to us, AND do it right away. Dont make prospective customers wait for nothing. I noticed after scrolling through reviews that most of the lower star reviews are in regards to service. This is absolutely the case here. If you want good food bad enough I am sure its great here. But I have never needed to eat at a restaurant bad enough to tolerate being insulted. I attached a photo of my "vicious" dog at another local dog friendly patio. This photo was taken 15 minutes after being turned away at Lobster Shanty.

Just left the Shanty tonight with my family feeling horrible that I even recommended it. The last 2 times Ild been was great. First off if you seat customers, Mr. Moopy Crankleton host man, you might want to tell a waitress weve been seated in their section. 20 minutes later someone appears with water thats not our waitress. Looking confused she decides to take our order anyway. Some time passes before we receive our food - meanwhile, my mom is melting before my very eyes in the heat of the dining room. As our waitress is retrieving some condiments I chomp on one of my fries off my shrimp platter. Cold. Shrimp? Also cold. My cousins $25 lobster roll? Yeah, you guessed it. Cold. Our waitress says in disbelief that it just came out the window. Of an ice cream truck? Takes it back. We receive our piping hot nuked seafood 10 minutes later. You would think they would know one of the cardinal rules of seafood prep - never microwave it. I dunno what was worse. It initially being cold or it being so stringy that I could floss my teeth with it. And the fat from the breading... ugh. To make matters worse we were never asked how our meal was, never once topped up on drinks, and never given the check until we asked for it 20 minutes after we finished. The end.

My husband and I drove a long distance to eat there and were, sadly, unimpressed. We had looked at the menu online before hand. When we arrived, there were substantial differences, including much higher prices on many items. I got a Millionaire Burger, which was very good, but a bit pricey, even if it did have fried brie on it (which clearly came frozen in a box). It is listed as $10.50 on the menu on FB. It was $18 on the menu at the restaurant. Thats a huge difference. My husband got the fried clam basket. It didnt come with cole slaw, even though its a traditional side to any fried seafood plate across New England and much of the rest of the country. He had to order it as an additional side, which was $6.00. SIX dollars for a small cup of cole slaw. On top of that, it wasnt even good and he never took a second bite. Our apathetic waitress didnt ask if it was OK, which she should have since it appeared untouched. She was very disinterested throughout the meal. SIX dollars, remember. Also, the tartar sauce came in a Kens Steakhouse packet, which is a huge no-no for any seafood place worth its salt. Homemade tartar sauce, please. Its not that hard, and Kens is terrible. Your should be ashamed, Shanty.

Im a fan for life. First, dog friendly! And I LOVED the fact that these people check your dogs current rabies status. As a person who supports a number of efforts to end rabies, I cant say this enough: We need people like the staff at this place --- people who actually check the rabies tags! YES. Now for the restaurant --- we sat on the patio (the dog friendly part). The waitress brings the dog water! The wait staff is SO friendly and the patio was immaculate. The drinks came fast and the food was wonderful. There is a wonderful veggie option: the portabello burger. It was marvelous and the fries that went with it were also great. My husband and son were also thrilled with their choices (salad and hot dogs). I will be back!

We had the fired calamari, pulled pork, and steak tips. The calamari was excellent. It had the perfect amount of seasoning, and cooked perfectly. It wasnt overly dry or soaked in oil. The steak tips we amazing as always. Large chunks of bacon in the spinach, it was great. The pulled pork was really good, but it was more on the sweat side. We also had a lobstertini and a perfect storm for drinks. The lobstertini was interesting, but good. The wait staff was attentive and polite. They finished their back deck, so they had outside seating and a live band, but we sat inside. Would definitely return..
