My family has been going to the Grafton Inn for special dinners for the last 25 years. We recently went to celebrate my Grandmothers 89th birthday at the Inn for dinner. After overlooking the fact that they made us wait 30 mintutes for our reservation, we figured they were just busy. Once seated, we were dumbfounded to see that there was only a few other people in the dining room. In spite of the sparsely populated dining room the service was extraordinarily slow. There was no bread to snack on. We began examining the menu and found there was no chick entre. They have no graden salad only a "steakhouse" salad with some poorly made oily house dressing. After waiting ten minutes I had to find the waitress to notify her that we were ready to order. Once we ordered, it took another thirty minutes to get the salads. They were terrible. We asked ourselves it it might be quicker to call for pizza delivery to the table. No one came to ask if we wanted to have refills on the drinks. Another thriry minutes later the food came. To call the food TERRIBLE would be a compliment. My mother had the Haddock and only ate one bite of it. It was doused with pepper. Her rice was under-cooked. My wife got crab-cakes. They were cold and "did not even taste like crab. My uncle got the pasta with sausage and said the pasta was under-cooked. My cousin ordered a vegetable sandwich with no cheese (hes vegan) and it came with chese and some strange sauce. My aunt got the salad, which was a 1/4 head of iceberg lettus a few diced tomatoes and onions for $7. My burger looked more like a hockey puck except it was broken in half and looked like it may have encountered the floor at some point. MY grandmother has the meatloaf, which she did enjoy. A one point the owner came to the table to ask how things were. I told her we were trying to make the best of it. She did not apologise or even offer desert to make us feel marginally better about the whole thing. What does it tell you when every guest at the table sends back their plate uneaten? (Except for my grandmothers meatloaf) On the way out I learned that new management took over in Arpil 2007. That explains the change in experience. My guess is that some amature thought she was a local culinary expert because her small group of Graftonites told her how good her free food was and she thought she was good enough to start resturaunt. WRONG! The menu offers no clear theme whatsoever. It may be classy if you are in Walpole prison, but is a clear waste of time and money. So if you are forced to dine at the Grafton Inn, either eat before you go at the local Burger King or get the meatloaf. Bring reading material or a comedian to keep you sane.

NOT handicap friendly. One handicap parking space. My husband and I went for the first time to try the Sunday buffet. We went in and the place was empty except for a party of 5 just ahead of us. They sat in the room behind the bar. We followed to sit at a table, and a young woman told us we had to sit at the bar because they had a party of 25 coming in. We went to the bar only to see high tables and chairs, which Im unable to climb up on (especially for an up and down thing like a buffet). I told the girl I couldnt sit up on a bar stool and I got, "sorry". So we left. As we were walking out, an older woman said to the girl, "why are you turning people away, those reservations arent until 1:30" (it was 11:00 at the time). As we drove away, I called to speak to a manager. None was available and a gentleman named Mike got talked into taking my call. He was apologetic and said he would have management call me when they came in. Im really not interested and will now steer people away from here. Post Office Pub is around the corner but was full so we ended up going to an early lunch instead. Such a shame, my husband drives by this place every day on his way to and from work and he thought hed surprise me with a nice Sunday brunch. Sooooo wrong!

The restaurant was very good. Our stay at the Inn was very bad! I would strongly recommend never staying there. Our bed broke three times because the frame was not made for the bed and it was rigged with rope to help the mattress stay on. First time my husband sat, it broke, two more times the same evening. We had to take the box spring and mattress off the frame. The air conditioning unit leaked through out the night only to find in the morning our belongings and carpet were soaked from the leakage. My sheets and comforter smelled horrible like they hadnt been washed in months and the sink faucet was broken, leaking water. After complaining they did offer us a room with a bed and cot but for $90 a night and not sleeping the night before, we declined the room and asked them to reimburse our money for the second night. The manager told us he would mail a check to our house. Not feeling comfortable with the idea, I spoke with the manager to get a credit on my credit card, which he said he would have to call to try and get a credit. He was obviously busy or not interested in our complaint because he was rushed and never apologized. I will never ever stay here again and I would advise you not to as well.

Excellent experience at the Grafton Inn! Was greeted by very friendly staff, charming atmosphere and let me say the food was outstanding! The place was crowded with a wait in the dining room, but seating in the bar area were we sat at a table, but its sure worth the wait if you prefer the dining room. Let me also mention our server was great too especially for how busy they were he was bartending and taking tables, great job! We stayed in Room 8 on the 3rd floor which was quaint, spacious, clean and had a nice view, coffee, tea or hot chocolate were available for you complimentary 24/7 basically outside your door steps away, nice touch! With signs of history and antique furniture all around you this place is a diamond in the rough! Would stay again and recommend to family and friends!

We got a gift certificate and went for lunch. The moment you walk in the musty smell hits your nostrils and the old, dirty decor hurts the eyes. We were seated in old vinyl chair and what resembled a foldable card table. The gruff looking waitress/bartender came up and asked "what do you want?". Our water was served in plastic cups. We ordered the fried pickles, mac and cheese amd the house burger with sweet potato fries. Fried pickles were overly oily and the breading was coming off. The mac and cheese was inedible. My husband who eats anything wouldnt even touch it. The burger was previously frozen, overcooked and dry served on a soggy bun and the fries are burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. Never again!

For a regular lunch or dinner, its okay. Its a pity they dont focus on better food to truly make it a great place because it already has nice staff and a quaint atmosphere. We went to the Easter brunch and were SO disappointed. It was school cafeteria quality food at best and we felt totally ripped off considering the high price and having to put a credit card down to get a reservation. We had been warned that the decor in the upstairs room where the brunch is held is not as nice as the downstairs, but I was still sad to see how cheaply its done. It has beautiful views of the common and could be a very classy place with a new chef and new upstairs decor!
