Seafood Shanty should consider changing its name to the Shady Shanty.. My wife and I, while on our honeymoon, went out to the Seafood Shanty for dinner with a few other friends. After a few drinks from a somewhat disgruntled bartender we all decided to sit down for dinner. My wife ordered the Prime Rib (along with another friend) and I ordered the seafood pasta. Service was extremely slow and the server didnt seem interested in providing us with any silverware or ask us if we wanted more drinks. After some quick apps which were relatively decent (chicken fingers and calamari) our entrees arrived. My seafood pasta was good with a proportionate mix of mussels, lobster claws, and scallops. The prime rib was overcooked, but my wife ate it anyway. Similar to other reviews, the slow waitstaff had a nack of taking our plates away before we were finished, often while engrossed in conversation and not looking down at our plates. Here comes the kicker... The next day my wife and our friend both woke up with incredible stomach pains and diarrhea. Given that we werent staying at the same hotel as our friend, we didnt make the connection that there was something wrong with the Prime Rib until we met later in the evening. The next morning, my wife called the Seafood Shanty to let them know of what happened, with the primary intent of drawing to attention to the fact there may be something wrong with the food they were serving, but with secondary intent to obtain a refund for the ~$25 that was spent on the prime rib (note the entire $100+ bill). After listening to the story, and without any apology, the manager at the Seafood Shanty told my wife that it was too late for him to do anything about it and questioned her on what she ate prior to the meal. After she explained that all she had was a bagel, he told her that she needed to go to the hospital to get a stool sample to prove that the prime rib is what made her sick. After ending this great conversation, we called our trusty friends at American Express to have the ~$25 taken off our card (they froze the entire bill). I must say that Amex is great about addressing vendor issues. While the Shanty might have a great location for drinks, the Shanty should be avoided for anything food related or for anyone looking for friendly customer service

One of the few places on the Island that was reliably open and serving during our off-season visit, we became frequent visitors to TSS more out of desperation than anything else. The menu, while unadventurous, is exactly what youd expect from a popular-with-the-tourists-and-locals-alike dockside seafood restaurant: crabcakes, fish and chips, clam chowder, halibut, burgers, shrimp scampi over linguini, etc. with a few nods to evolving American tastes (Sushi, a fusion-y take on dumplings that was roundly panned). The scampi was well-prepared, with shrimp cooked properly and a bite to the pasta, lots of lemon and the unavoidable oil slick at the bottom of the dish. The sushi was edible. The fish and chips were awful, both components arriving wildly undercooked, not a crisp bit on the plate. The fish was "fishy" which, contrary to popular belief, it shouldnt be (in most cases). Cocktails were bare bones classics, beers a mish-mash of national brands and the more prevalent craft brewers, and wine list better just kept out of mind. Overall, you cant fault TSS all that much. They have a built-in crowd and will always be popular even if the food just passes muster. From a business standpoint, it has to be easier to rake in money serving the predictable and expected year after year than risk rocking the boat, so to speak.

We have been here in the past for our annual Vineyard trip and never been too impressed, but love the view. This time it was simply awful, everything. We figured wed play it safe and order apps and light fare...mussels were so chewy, no broth, no bread (which I guess is aronious due to no broth) and just absolutley no flavor. We eat mussels everywhere, I have never sent a plate back, these were a must go back! The manager was very nice and we felt weird sending them back because they hadnt gone bad, they just tasted bad. He took them off our bill which we didnt expect but was very nice. I ordered calamari that was lack lustre at best. We wanted to try a sushi roll to see if it was any good and we would order more. We asked for a simple spicy tuna roll with tempura flakes...it was better than the mussels but not good enough to order more. The surprise came when our bill came and the $8.95 tuna roll was a $20.00...feeling like a jerk now I had to ask our server about this, server was rude & told me that I ordered something different...at this point, feeling duped I just closed my mouth and had to leave the restaurant while the rest of the group waited to pay our over-priced, frustrating, left us hungry "meal". We will never go back, sacrfice the view for The Atlantic!

My collegue and I ordered takeout from the Shanty. She paid over the phone, and when I went in to pick it up they charged me as well, failing to tell me that it was already paid for. They not only charged each of us for the same order, but they charged us more than it actually cost and what our credit receipt said. We went back to speak with the manager, who denied any wrong doing and refused to credit either one of our cards, despite the bank statements we brought in as proof. He went on to explain that this is what resturants do...however, the night before we ate at Alchemy, which we highly reccommend (!!!), and were not charged any more than what our receipt said. DO NOT EAT AT THE SEAFOOD SHANTY. IT IS A SCAM. They are trying to make money off of tourist, day trippers, and anyone who eats here, and not to mention, the food is not that great considering the amount they charge for the sub-par food.

This restaurant is nicely located on the waterfront of Edgartown. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The only issue we had was the food quality was very mediocre. I ordered Shrimp & lobster casarol, my wife ordered fishermen platter. Both were horribly bad. My plate was super salty and spicy in addition that it had nothing to do with Casarol. They through couple of shrimps and pieces of lobster in a tomato sauce and called it a baked casarol!! Not sure how! The platter was really bad as well. We through away half of it. The clam was very bad and it was the majority of the plate with the fries. Im not sure why we had a very bad luck with this place despite the overwhelming good reviews they have. It seems that we hit the chef in a bad day or so! But its really unfair !!

We ate here 3 times over the last few weeks. Different size groups each time. Scallops are good. Alfredo is too thick and creamy. Bisque is good. The last time...Wednesday night...I had the 2 # lobster. NOT impressed. Not cooked right, baked potato tasted & felt like 2 days old sheetrock. Moms baked stuffed lobster...stuffing was mostly bread and not crabmeat. Also dry and tasteless. The place is very noisy and has no acoustics at all. The view of the Harbor is great but you can get that from several restaurants...or just sit on a bench and have ice cream or chowder. The one item consistently good is the Mussels appy. great garlic sauce good for dipping also. Sorry...not going back. On another note, my wife and a GF had lunch at the Atlantic and LOVED it.
