Ogawa Coffee is the perfect place for coffee lovers and addicts. Hailing from Kyoto, Japan, Ogawa is devoted to the pursuit of coffee perfection since the early 1950s. This is their first international shop, which they opened last May. I’m a pretty big coffee lover, and I am a sucker for latte art. So when I heard that the world’s best latte art champion Haruna Murayama worked here, imagine my glee. She is the first Japanese and first woman to ever win the World Latte Art Championship, and she has an unparalleled level of technical skill and creativity. She was there when I stopped into Ogawa, and I was fortunate enough to watch her make my cappuccino with such precision, grace, and talent. She also worked with the other barista to create the other half of my drink order. It’s worth it to come to Ogawa just to watch her in action. I ordered the Signature Drink ($10), which comes with cold espresso served in a martini glass and a small cappuccino. Both the espresso and the cappuccino look like works of art. The cappuccino was absolutely perfect, the best I’ve had. Not bitter, not overly sweet. The art was almost too pretty to drink. They serve Kalita and Aero Press here, along with the usual iced coffee, espresso, cappuccino, latte, and mocha. They also have matcha latte (definitely ordering that next time I’m here!), caramel latte, chai latte, and even smoothies. Breakfast (served all day) includes oatmeal, bagels, croissants, and quiches. There’s even a lunch menu with sandwiches (including a tea sandwich lunch box!), soups, and salads. And of course, they have house-made Japanese-style rolled cake (matcha and traditional flavors), sundaes, blancmange, and affogato.

If somebody want to taste good Japanese style coffee then I recommand this place but also want to get good service then watch out. Coffee is good but watch out for service. I like Japanese style roast and brew coffee and this place good place to take a experience of Japanese style coffee. Only for coffee taste, this place can get over 4 star but one staff ruined my experience. She was so rude and impolite. I went Ogawa Coffee with my wife. I mis-ordered a coffee and this place does not have that coffee. So I changed it right away. At that time, this staffs attitude changed to be so impolite and she repeated couple of time to say "We do not have it" with raised voice. We were shocked. After my order, when my wife order, she was asking "what do you want" even during my wife order. My wife grown up Boston area and she live here for decades. I and my wife never got this kind experience before. Even my wife asked her for giving a moment with scared voice. I want to call a manager but my wife wants to avoid this place. I try to make her to be calm and we went out. It was really horrible experience in my life. I do not think every staffs are rude and impolite but have to watch out one of them.

I am not quite sure whether this place knows what it wants to be. By the looks of it - a super hip and fancy coffee shop. But I think a coffee shop needs to figure out speed, consistency and attention to details first, before it tries to be cool. Everything is frustratingly slow in this place. For no excusable reason. And they seem to think it is OK to be that slow, because it is always like this. If the end result was worth it, I may even agree. But in 12 mins today I got an overly foamy latte (bad steaming technique) and a burnt ham and cheese croissant that got forgotten in the oven. And thats with only one customer in front of me. Also - this is not the first time a simple order gets screwed up or takes super long. Not the end of the world, but the effort and the end result dont seem to represent what this place tries to be.

Ogawa is nothing like Starbucks which isnt a bad thing. I really like the atmosphere in the place and the staff were all very kind. My only complaint would be the cappuccino I ordered has to be the worst cappuccino Ive ever had. Tasteless and a bit cold. I wouldnt recommend this place to eat breakfast because you will leave hungry but I guess Im just used to eating a big portion breakfast. Thats all I see in NY and thats what Im used to. Maybe Bostonians are used to their small portioned breakfast. Other than that like I previously said the atmosphere was good and the place looks really nice in the inside.

The perfect place to get quality specialty coffee with an added twist. The coffee they serve is all made by professional baristas, one of which is a World Latte Art Champion. The coffee will look and taste perfect. Their signature drink, a cappuccino with a beautiful latte art flower and a chilled espresso in a martini glass. The crema on the espresso is some of the smoothest I have ever drank, and the whole shop was on edge watching as the barista made the beautiful latte art. The food is fresh, filling, and very healthy feeling. The salads and sandwiches take care of any lunch needs you may have.

I have enjoyed my handful of visits to Ogawa coffee. I had a very good cappuccino from them. They offer some unique services, such as a sample flight of four single origin coffee, and hand packed sample gift boxes. The sweets looked really good, and although I have been able to resist them so far, I do want to give them a try next visit. Its interesting that they are a chain in Japan. I hope they can be successful Boston and maybe open a location that is a little more convenient for me to visit, soon!

Really pleased with my experience at Ogawa coffee. Great pour over prepared carefully in a thoughtful and attractive cup. They have samples of the coffee up front at the register so you can figure out which one you are most interested in before buying it by opening them and smelling them. Its pretty great. They have a good selection, although when I went it was mostly south and central American. Tea selection is okay and available iced. Nothing really vegetarian or vegan on the menu unfortunately.

Big glass windows are somewhat wasted with construction and buildings outside, but natural lighting is nice. The stadium seating is trendy and nice but the cafe is small with limited seating though varied (counter seating, two tops to larger group tables, stadium seating). Cortado was delicious, and coffee selection seems nice. Cute brunch menu with dishes that come on bamboo trays. I like how the staff are dressed. Many hooks for hanging bags. Restroom available for customers.

Still the best Japanese meal Ive had in this country. The progression of the dishes is perfect. Giro takes you outside of your comfort zone, then brings you right back in. The crab brain with uni is my favorite dish. The downside here is obviously the price. The price went from 275 per to 350 that hurts. With water and our corkage fees (rug and moose:) ) it was a bit north of 500pp. I cant say that it isnt worth it, but in the economy, 75 bucks make a difference.

The coffee here is fantastic. Really really enjoyed it. Staff was extremely nice and pleasant. Its a little bit of a walk for me (I work across from South Station, about 10 minute walk one way), but totally worth it. On par with Coffee Trike if you are familiar with them. Definitely worth the walk. Apparently home to Haruna Murayama, a 2010 World Latte Art champion. Unfortunately she did not make my coffee today, maybe next time.
