What a great experience for our first trip to Boston! A group of five of us visited Boston for my boyfriends 30th birthday-It was no question I wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner to celebrate. (We also had another birthday at the table as well) I searched around a lot before reserving a table for us at Mama Maria and after our experience I couldnt have been more happy with the decision. From the moment you walk in you immediately feel warm and welcomed but nothing is better than a kind and in-sync staff. I was blown away about how friendly our server(s) were-We were not rushed(Huge pet peeve of mine) and the server(s) were kind enough to take the time to answer questions and give recommendations of what to have for dinner. At one point I was able to sneak away and let our server know we had two birthdays at the table, I had no expectation of what would be done but knew for sure this was definitely not a Birthday singing place" After dinner our server waited for me to give the "OK" for something Birthday related to come out. To my surprise he brought a plate of four desserts with two candles for the table to share! Not only that but didnt charge us for it! I never expect a restaurant to make nice gestures like this but its the little things right? Our food, sorry, forgot about our food-IT WAS AMAZING! The table had a variety from chicken to fish, even rabbit and there was nothing we got that disappointed! The food and service at Mama Maria was outstanding and I would highly recommend, if you are visiting Boston and are looking for a nice night out with your loved one(s) give it a go! PS- I thought pricing was very much so reasonable, you cant go looking for filet on a Walmart budget ;)

We just finished dinner at Mamma Marias and I had to come immediately back to our hotel and write the review. All I can say is WOW! The waitress Emer( I did ask her permission to post her name) was amazing, she was spot on with every suggestion. there was also a busy boy working as her helper. She was very personable and she absolutely made our night. She has picked the perfect professional and this restaurant is lucky to have such a terrific employee. She suggested the special peach martini which was delicious we have the mozzarella and tomato appetizer and the oyster starter. For our main entree we all had the lobster ravioli like pasta in a cremi mushroom and asparagus sauce. It was so good! There are no specials at this restaurant they create a new menu each day. The ambience was so quaint and cozy. Its an upscale house type setting on a cobble street in the heart of the north end Italian district. I am attending a conference with at least a couple of thousand participants and I will be sure and spread the word to all I can. I would also not hesitate to recommend and will definitely be back to this restaurant if I ever return to Boston, please give them a try, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Delicious! If you are looking for a good, classic Italian meal that does not include your regular Americanized-Italian dishes, then this is the place to be. You have to be a bit of an adventurous eater to enjoy some of the truly spectacular dishes that Mamma Maria offers, but if you are, it is well worth it. I had the tuna tartare, which I normally would not eat, but it just looked SO good, that I had to suck it up. And trust me, it was well worth it. For my entree I got the short rib, and holy moly was it incredible. The desserts were also phenomenal, but not your typical Italian desserts. The space is absolutely adorable--on a very bumpy cobblestone road, in a cozy old-school establishment. Highly recommended!!

I think part of my low rating was my very high expectations which it did not live up to. It is definitely focused on yesterdays fine dining with formal wine service and such. The service was outstanding although if youre going for fine dining dont remove peoples plates when one is still eating, you wait until everyone is done. The food was good, but not enough to match the price. My mushroom tortelloni fell shy of one I made at home as the flavors were neither full nor thoughtful. Its a nice place that is sure to impress but there are better options out there. If the prices were more reasonable Id give them 4 stars but when you charge for the best, youd best serve the best.

Agree with other reviewer, never felt welcome. Had a reservation, still felt like we were not welcome. Hard to put a finger on it but the wife felt the same way. They must only prefer theyre regular clientele. This was our first timeand probably last. Pricy, limited menu, changes every day. All four in our party said their meals were just ok. The rooms are nice, too bad its just ok. Must be a place to be seen, etc, but Id say if you consider yourself to be regular folks walk down Prince St and turn to one of many restaurants on Hanover St and enjoy. Never had a bad experience or meal at any place in the North End until tonight.

Heard about Vanessa and her popup dinners that are booked through Eat With. She specializes in Italian and hand makes her own pastas. 3 of us saw the menu for a braised beef parallel dinner and decided to give it a try. She and her husband Julian host in their apartment.Theres a welcoming glass of wine, then passed appetizers while chatting with the other guests around 12. Dinner began with a nice arugula/fennel salad followed by the savory delicious pasta. A tasty salted caramel pot DE creme was a nice way to end the meal. BYOB for extra wine an option. She has 4 or 5 different menus and look forward to having more.

I ate here once with a really large group, so keep that in mind. I thought it was slow and a little tacky but it deserves 4 stars because of the utterly amazing food I had. I think it was lobster ravioli, definitely some kind of lobster pasta situation though. I mean, I havent been in 3-4 years, and I still remember that one meal, it was just so good. Its pricey and the portions are small though. Id go back again for sure. Its a good North End staple when youre wandering around the 70+ restaurants in that area trying to figure out what to eat.

This place is small. Make sure you get a reservation. The food was pretty good, but nothing on the menu stuck out at me at all. It all just seemed so so. And it changes everyday so you cant really plan ahead. I didnt know this and saw something on the tripadvisor menu that I was looking forward to only to find out it wasnt on todays menu. Dessert was a pretty sad affair. The flourless chocolate cake was a disappointment. It wasnt bad but it was tiny and nothing to write home about. The staff were all very courteous and professional.

Mamma Maria is the best Italian dining in Boston. It takes up both floors of a quaint New England house, tucked away on a quiet back street off the North End scene. You will need a reservation (well in advance if primetime) and an expense account.. or in my case a special occasion. The staff is attentive and very professional, the ambiance is intimate/ comfortable, and the food.. there are no words. If you like Italian cuisine the only excuse not to go here at every possible chance is a tight budget or poor planning.
