After a great visit to Basho Japanese Brasserie, Douzo‘s sister restaurant, we were looking forward to returning for some robata and sushi. Basho means “a place where things happen” in Japanese and the restaurant would be a great place for cocktails or a private event. We sat on the lounge versus the main dining room and enjoyed the drop lighting. However, The televisions along the side of the bar and low volumed club music were slightly distracting. Next time, I will request to be seated in the dining room’s lime green booths. Vegetable Yaki Udon, stir-fried noodle with button mushrooms and cabbage. The chicken had nice grill marks and was doused with a bit of sauce. I really enjoyed the balance of the semi-soft thin yellow noodles and lightly crisp vegetables for $14.25. We came to Basho specifically for the robata grilled items, where the chef grills freshly skewered meat, seafood or vegetables over fire. The chicken thigh for $3.50 was juicy, tender and my favorite (second from the left). We also enjoyed the Tsukune, seasoned ground chicken for $4.00, Pork Toro braised pork belly with scallion for $6.95 and chicken breast for $3.50. The Pork Toro braised pork belly was well grilled, juicy and had bountiful areas of flavorful fat. The fattiness was cut by the with fresh slivers of scallion. For sushi, we had the Spicy Yellowtail for $6.50, Shiitake Mushroom Tempura for $5.00 and Philadelphia* smoke salmon, cucumber, scallion and cream cheese $6.50, all great quality.

Nice "Japanese Brasserie" as the owner wanted to brand it. The menu is excellent, the food remarkable. The sashimi pieces are few but enormous and not practical to consume; when I mentioned that to the waitress she politely responded that its the "Brasserie" style to have the sashimi cuts that big but they will be happy to cut it into smaller pieces next time and she followed up by saying that there will be an additional charge for that. Its a real rip-off to charge customers for the cutting the sashimi. Its a minor issue but reveals how they take advantage of their customers. I have never been charged extra in a restaurant for ordering my meat well done on the pretence that they consume more energy for that additional cooking.

Things got off to a bad start when we asked to be seated at the sushi bar, were kept waiting for 10 minutes, then guided past the EMPTY sushi bar to a table. Things went from bad to worse when our waitress didnt understand the difference between a roll and hand roll. The grossly overpriced sushi somehow manages to pull off being both too complicated and bland. The constantly pumped-in techno music is annoying; its a sushi restaurant, not a dance club. The atmosphere decor-wise is incredibly cold and uncomfortable.

Basho Japanese Brasserie was a great stumble upon and recommended when I did a quick search. The service was amazing here. I sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely attentive--offering different suggestions of wine and spirits that I normally have, with a twist. His suggestions on the menu proved to be the best part of the experience. Everything came out very well-presented and tasted great! Whenever Im back here for work, Ill make sure to make this place my first stop!

Basho sushi has a nice upscale restaurant right in the heart of Fenway. The spicy edamame is my favorite edamame I have ever had, I cant start a meal here without it. The sushi is very nicely rolled, and the flavors are great. They are pretty good about allergies, although they did include panko in a gluten free roll we ordered once. They validate parking (even during red sox games!), and the restaurant is pretty large so you shouldnt need to wait long for a table.

On our first visit we found the acoustics poor (very loud), but the food good and the staff very nice and helpful. We particularly liked the crispy shrimp which was coated in a delicious sauce. The miso black cod was also very good. Tempura and a few other items didnt stand out but were good. The prices are high for the Fenway, but the Fenway is usually low end.

Its good, fresh sushi, drinks, with good service, nice setting, except some items can be over priced. The sushi is fine at around $10-$13/roll but the appetizers I feel are more than they should be. I wish it was a little cheaper to make it a more neighborhood, regular, restaurant. But I always seem to enjoy it and have good food!

Burrito Sushi? YES! Everything else? Just your usual corporate sushi spot. Sushi is good and fresh, but there is something slightly sterile about the whole place and it seeps into the food... Service can also be offhand-ish sometimes. This is a great place to bring groups though, business group especially!

My girlfriend and I went here before Winterstorm Nemo. The food was very good and we both greatly enjoyed the decor. Our server was likable but somewhat unattentive. Overall a positive experience and would recommend it to anyone looking for Japanese food in the Fenway area.

What an awesome gem in the Fenway District. Whether you are looking for tea , Bento boxes, or sushi , this little restaurant has it all. Quick efficient staff and a Innovative decor make for a great dining experience. And the prices are not City prices but suburb cheap.

Went on a Fenway event day when it wasnt too crowded but it was painfully slow to get the food order. Ordering drinks was equally difficult... I think they were very short staffed. The quality of the sushi was very good and the other items were tasty as well.

Very pricy and upscale feel. Although they had no problem serving me after I came in from a workout. The fish here is very high quality which follows along with their pricing. Some of the best salmon Sashmi Ive ever had. I do wish it was slightly cheaper.

Very good quality, very good and efficient service and well priced. I really love that place. I usually have the daibuki or the daily bento but their special rolls are so so good! Portions are generous too. In a nutchell, a must go in Fenway.

Came in with a party of 10 and told wait staff we were all paying separately. At the end of the meal, the server brought one check with everyones orders. Refused to spilt the bill. Food was decent despite the service.

I go here at least once a week for lunch and this place is great. Never had any problems with the food or staff and they are all very nice. Pork Katsu is amazing and so is the Snapdragon.

Very good cocktails, decent sushi...ambiance and service were okay. About what youd expect from a suchi place in the vicinity of a baseball stadium. Try the Mai Tai--best I ever had.

Mediocre food for reasonable prices. If youve been to the Pacific Northwest (west coast), youll know good sushi. Service is great and plenty of tables in the restaurant.

Poor service. Our waitress essentially forgot about us for about 45 minutes. Food was sub par. Yellowtail upset my stomach. Overpriced considering the lack of quality.

This place could be so much more with their diverse menu and good sashimi qualities, but its over shadowed by its location and type of crowd its attracting.

Fancy place, but the service is not as I expected. The sever did not write down my order and missed 2 things that I ordered. Overall not very impressed!
