I used to dine here regularly for the beer releases (monthly) and as a great hang out spot. The location is awesome and the deck over the river is great for ambiance and vibe. The thing that gets me is the quality of service and the reason we initially stopped going there over a year ago. Fast forward to last night, I went to Rams Head for a going away happy hour with some co-workers and as I had feared - the same reasons that made me stop frequenting this restaurant are what make me never want to go back. We were seated on the deck and after more than 10 minutes of servers walking past and waiting on other tables we flagged a server down to take our order. She made it clear we werent her table and made it seem like she was doing us a favor by taking our order anyway. Eventually our waitress showed up with our drinks, never introduced herself as our intended server, no apology for our poor service and experience up to that point, and had an incomplete drink order. We had to ask several times for waters and utensils so that half our party could even eat the appetizers. As for the drinks and food they were fine as I expected, but another reason we stopped going was that the food prices were raised and the portion sizes cut - this is particularly frustrating when sharing apps for a group when I know a plate of the fried pickles or crabby tots used to come out piled high. I know some of the reasons why service is shoddy and until they fix it things may never improve because there is no incentive to provide patrons with good service. Mind you, this is just one experience from one night. My overall decision to stop going there is based on over 5 years of dining experience here that sadly fell off. This used to be a good place and after repeatedly bad interactions, inconsistent policies, and poor service I made my decision to not got back if I can help it. I do not recommend this place to anyone anymore, and it is a shame because it really used to be great.

I have been to this establishment a few times in the past few years Ive lived here. There are multiple levels to this tavern as it is nestled within a small shopping center on the side of hill. The first time here was for a company happy hour which took place in the basement portion. A very cozy atmosphere, indeed, with a fine selection of beers and other spirits served by friendly bartenders makes a great environment for meeting new folks or your regular crowd. A little further away from the bar sets a few pool tables while a line of more booths further across from the bar for a more secluded setting. A year or so later, the next company for which Ive worked (and still do) had a happy hour, this time upstairs (or ground level from front entrance). This area had its own bar as well as a more open set up that was more manageable for larger parties if need be. There was even an upstairs section for more seating. The staff was friendly for this party and were helpful in getting drinks for our rather large group. The restrooms were clean both down- and upstairs. Parking was a challenge the 2nd time I came as the lot fills quickly. This is a popular place for the locals to meet. The lot is not the only place to park as the sides of the streets surrounding this area are public parking except where marked. Maybe do the old-fashioned idea of carpooling. That way you could possibly have a designated driver! Be safe and enjoy!

The food is good; the service is poor. On a minimally busy Thursday night (no wait for a table), we arrived at 6:35 PM. We waited for ten minutes for a server, which left us 15 minutes for happy hour entrees. We asked for tickets, but our server forgot them each time she visited the table. Eventually, someone else (not our server) brought the tickets around 7 PM, as happy hour was ending. We ordered at 7 PM. I ordered the dynamite burger, my wife ordered the special Thursday burger. Our two burgers arrived over 50 minutes later. The party of four seated next to us was seated later than us, finished four steak dinners, paid and left before our two burgers arrived. My burger was good. My wifes burger was a bun, patty, one piece of lettuce, and nothing else. McDonalds $0.59 burgers come with onions and ketchup. The server was shocked--shocked--to learn that we werent happy with a dry, vacant burger. Ultimately, they didnt make us pay for my wifes burger, because we complained. It wasnt worth an hour wait, I can guarantee that. Pros: -Location -Facility -Food (sometimes?) -Beer? (draft selection somewhat limited, but some are house brews) Cons: -Service -Special burgers -Wait time

Food was straight from costco, seriously. Fare was boring, bland, not imaginative at all. Choice took a while just deciding among all the same boring things. Wait-staff horrible. Snotty, as if they were unpaid volunteers. Was given flat soda (as was everyone else) when I stated that their soda was flat, she said "yes we know, the machine is broken, would you like water instead?" Why would you offer soft drinks if you cannot serve them? Maam my steak is frozen. Oh, yes our broiler is broken, would you like a PBJ? Almost luckily that was about the last we saw of her. Never came by the table or anyone elses. She would go straight to the table that was being served, then duck her head down as if she had too many things going. Mind you this was an early saturday lunch, it was not busy. Staff was all dressed so casually that it was distasteful. I assume the owner works elsewhere and has put his son or someone else in charge of this restaurant and he sleeps in the back room all day. "come back again"... not if you paid me. To be expected I suppose. Almost every restaurant/store Ive been to since Ive moved here, the staff are unmotivated and usually untrained to help.

I had a basically inedible meal there. Did not try the beer, so cannot comment on that. First of all, when we got there they said their hood was broken so they couldnt do any hot food. No burgers, which I had read good reviews on. So we figured we would just go with soup and salads. Our mistake!! Ill give them credit that they seemed to use real crab in the cream of crab soup. However, the cream base was so thick, bland, and pasty that I couldnt eat it. Never before have I left a full bowl of cream of crab soup! I If youre a Maryland restaurant, you should at least have a decent attempt at a crab soup. The pear salad was also a huge disappointment. The blue cheese crumbles were chewy. The random dried fruit pieces were weird. Pear tasted weird. Hated the cayenne cashews. I understand you shouldnt have super high food expectations for a bar, but this was awful. Not to mention the bad service when it was 2 in the afternoon on a Thursday. Im so confused by these positive reviews! Maybe they drank the beer and it made them forget how terrible the food was. Who knows. Im not going back.

Was strongly considering having an event here for a large group so I went to test it out beforehand, and was convinced against my original thought. Id rather have the inconvenience of traveling with a group of 40, than depending on this staff to be able to satisfy our appetites. Pros: Atmosphere is friendly and fun. Good aesthetics, enviroment, and people in the immediate area. We were also seated for a group of five in about 2 minutes during a moderately busy time. Cons: Everything that happened after being seated. Service was slow, drinks were slow, waitresses tag teaming tables, and still not around enough to refill a glass that has been empty for 20 minutes. $26 steak is a $4 cut of meat with no flavor, and the servers response is that everyone complains about that. Prices are through the roof for what youre getting. 30 minutes to get a bottle of steak sauce to drown the garbage on the plate. After paying the bill, felt like I should be getting an apology in the mail. I wont be going back. I would recommend you avoid too.
