We found Hellas soon after moving to Crownsville while exploring the area. We were so impressed, we had our wedding reception there! They have a separated are for functions and even put down a hard wood dance floor for us. Food was and continues to be great! Their prices are fair and you get a lot of crab cake for the money! Crab cake, Cream of Crab soup, Gyro, Crab topped oysters and the rice pudding are our favorites! We dont drink a lot so cant speak to the drinks there. We always sit in the dining room, but there is a bar area on the other side of the restaurant where they have karaoke and things. Service is usually always good. A lot of places have large group meetings there but htey handle them with ease and still manage to attend to the other customers. Weve been going htere 11 years now and have honestly never had a bad meal or been disappointed!

I treated my staff members to Hellas Restaurant on May 6, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. When we entered, the bar area was very empty so we thought the service would be great as there werent many patrons. When ordering food, everyone placed a drink order and headed over to the juke box. The drinks came out and were horrible. Ive never seen such small margarita glasses in my life!!! The buffalo wings I ordered came out with a very thin sauce and two were still raw inside. I sent the order back and against better judgement of others, I ordered the crab dip with bread. The bread was cut horribly and the crab dip looked like orange buttermilk. Only go to this place if you like $1 beers. Eat somewhere else, especially if you dont like raw food.

I visited Hellas Restaurant & Lounge for a Christmas Party. Its a huge facility. The hostess and waitress were both pleasant. If it wasnt for the people attending the party, however, it would have been a BUST. The food was the showstopper with the first indication being the rolls; they were stale. Drinks were watered down including fountain drinks. The house salad good along with the white wine vinaigrette dressing. I had the Gyro Platter, it was a TON of food, but quantity doesnt substitute for quality. Needless to say, I will not be having leftovers. Overall: It was a MISS THE TARGET on my meter. I usually say Ill give places a second chance, not Hellas Restaurant. Sorry!!!

We decided to give this place a shot before reading the reviews. I ordered a bottled drink and my husband got a tea. When she brought out the tea they told me they didnt have my bottled drink in stock, which should have been mentioned before hand. I ordered the blackened tilapia souvlaki and he ordered clam chowder and lasagna which comes with a side salad. The salad and clam chowder were excellent but the main entrees were depressing. The lasagna barely had any beef and the fish wasnt blackened or flavored well. The server never questioned why we ate very little. We paid and left. I dont recommend this location for dining or lounge.

02/27/2013 I had a luncheon there after a funeral with about 45 people, and the staff was well prepared to handle us. We ordered from the Banquet Menu, which consisted of Maryland Style House Special Jumbo Lump Crab Cake (Excellent) or a Jumbo Cut N.Y. Strip Steak (Excellent) or a Charcoal Grilled Chicken Breast Platter (Excellent) served with a side salad and chefs pick of the vegetable of the day. Everything tasted great, even the desserts. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone who needs to host a large party, or just for a place to eat after a Sunday drive. Pat Connor

Wow, this place completely took me by surprise! Stopped in with coworkers for dinner not expecting much on a busy night. We were seated and served quickly, our waiter was very outgoing and answered any question we had regarding the menu. I was blown away by some of the prices but found a great cheaper meal with the turkey club, coworkers tried breaded catfish and gyro both had only compliments about their meals. Overall well worth a visit, dont be mislead that this is hi-class dinning only, and dont turn away if the parking lot looks full they offer two very large areas to be seated.

Im not sure what Millgirl is talking about -- and the link to her full review is down -- so I dont give much credence to her thoughts. I was introduced to Hellas about a year ago, and when we arrived, I was sort of skeptical about the "look." I felt like I was in a 1970s time warp -- but the service was pleasant and the food was top notch. The crab cakes are stellar -- Ill post a photo of some we brought home recently for take out! My grandmother made wonderful crabcakes -- all crab and very little filler and these are (dare I say it) just a tad better!

My wife and I come here about once every couple of months. Sometimes we eat in, sometimes we order out. There is a wide assortment of dishes, though I really like their Gyro platter and my wife usually gets the Mousaka. The plates come jam packed full of food. We always end up taking home a doggy bag. Atmosphere is just ok for my tastes. But overall, wed recommend it. (PS I dont know what millgirl is talking about. You do have to go to the bar for pick-up, but it was a well behaved crowd when we were there. Nothing x-rated about it)

Hella good! Service is extraordinary. The kindness, caring, and compassionate attitude of the staff here is warm and welcoming. These folks took care of my family while we ate like we were their own. The food is bursting with flavor. The crab cakes are tasty and moist. The fire wings are fiery enough for a bite without assaulting you. The land and surf special with gyro meat and crab cakes in a wrap is really good. Plus bottled root beer!! Hard to find that around here so Im excited. Ill totally be back!

First off, the specials are tasty and the food is good. They have a dining room and a lounge so whether you want a very casual experience or something a little finer, youll be fine. And the service is satisfactory. I will say, though, that if youre looking for high-protein meals, such as the grilled chicken salad or the grilled chicken platter, they are relatively expensive for what you get. I come here almost every week for Final Score Trivia on tuesday at 7pm. It can get a bit crowded then.

We had a horrible experience here. The service was lacking. We could never get refills. I asked for lime in my water and received lemon. We had Calamari and it was tasteless . Our daughter and myself ordered the seafood platter. It smelled of old rotten fish. Our scallops and fish werent cooked all the way through. The baked potatoes looked like reheated old potatoes. The cheese was American cheese cut in slices and placed on the potatoes. This restaurant is off my list. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Great food & friendly staff. Fish is fresh and steaks are prepared perfectly. Everything is great - whether you get gyros or other traditional Greek dishes, or get a local favorite such as their excellent crab cakes, you cant go wrong. Kareoke nights in the bar area twice weekly with the expected variation in raw talent...So choose the quieter dining room if kareoke is not your thing. A variety of games from keno to pool provide additional entertainment before or after your meal.
