I visited Tabor Ethiopian as part of Baltimores Vegan Weekend in February. The menu looked great, and we were excited. Things didnt go as planned. We were seated at a table that hadnt fully been cleaned. The server (only one working the floor at the time, as far as I could see) forgot about my husbands drink order, and took a long time to come around to get our dinner order. Wed been seated at least 30 minutes by the time our appetizer (Veggie Sambusas) arrived. While they tasted great, the middles were still partially frozen. I called the server over to our table, and she literally told me that, no, they werent cold in the middle. We had to insist that she put her finger in the middle of one to feel before shed believe us, and asked that she bring out a fully-cooked, new order. She reluctantly took them back to the kitchen, but then brought out the same plate a few minutes later, including the sambusa shes stuck her finger in. At this point, we were so frustrated we decided to leave. We firmly but politely told the server we were leaving and why, and asked for the check for my husbands beer. She didnt understand, and eventually got her manager (another few minutes). He tried to get us to stay as well, didnt seem too concerned about the terrible service, and wouldnt bring us the check, said that our food was almost ready, and told us to wait, walked off. We left some cash for the beer, and walked out. Awful service, would not recommend!

Ive been here a few times, service is usually good. Today it was excellent, my servers name was Beza she took great care of me I wasnt feeling too well and mentioned it to her. The food was phenomenal as usual. This is a family owned business as far as Im concerned, so having been in the restaurant business myself I know that it costs a lot to have many people on staff especially if the profit margins are low. There have been times that it has taken nearly 40 minutes to receive my food but thats usually when the restaurant is at full capacity, the wait for the food is still worth it as the food is always of good flavor and quantity. There is usually only one server who is also the bartender and that means you are not going to get their undivided attention during the busy hours. Even corporate restaurants with many servers have slow service when they are at full capacity and sometimes jeopardize the quality of the food. If you like Ethiopian food or like trying out different cuisine give this small restaurant business a chance

The atmosphere is kind of like a dive bar, with its cheap plastic tablecloths, neon lit bar, cheap menus, and dark lighting. The air was thick with incense when we went, and Ethiopian music plays in the background, so it sweeps you away from the rough street feel outside. The server is friendly and speaks very good if heavily accented English. I start with all this to lead to this point: Dont let any of this put you off! The food is in a word splendid. We got the Baltimore platter and every bite was perfectly seasoned, cooked to perfection, and bursting with amazing flavor. The meats were crispy, even on sauce, and everything was fresh, no taste of staleness or having sat under a lamp. This place is a hidden gem for anyone craving Ethiopian food.

I got the veggie combo (5) but they only had for veggie options today since I walked in between lunch and dinner meal hours. I was happy just to be served a meal at all between hours. They offered to bring more of anything on my plate since they didnt have a fifth option for me. It was plenty of food, so I didnt ask for more. Everything was perfect. Ive never been to Ethiopia, but Ive been to many restaurants and there are Ethiopian restaurants I love and some I dont like at all. This is at the top of my list. Prices are good, portions are huge, and the service was great!

The service was garbage. The restaurant only has one waiter who seemed to be inundated with responsibilities. The table I was seated at had not been cleaned. Then I was given a plastic cup with no straw to drink from. Ice water had to be requested other wise they would serve you luke warm water. The water had this strong "tap" water taste". Took forever to get the check and even longer to get my food after ordering however this restaurant has nice food for low prices. I wouldnt mind ordering take out from this place but, it is an abysmal dining experience.

I went here after asking the host at the hostel what he recommended and with out hesitation he suggested Tabor. I could not have been more happy with my meal and experience. I wasnt familiar with Ethiopian food so she asked me some questions and made some suggestion the food was so good I order some Togo so I could try a different dish. Some people on other reviews are complaining about time but I had no long waits for anything and the restaurant was fairly busy. Overall extremely happy

My husband said it best: "Theyre open until 2am not for convenience but because thats how long the service takes." And thats no lie. My family of four ordered a single group plate and found ourselves there for a total of about two hours and fifteen minutes. The food was delicious and portions were generous, but not enough to give warrant to the 45-minute wait both before and after it arrived. Dont chance it if you have anything else to do in your day...

I wish I could give this place 5 stars but the service is too slow. The food is excellent and very flavorful, and you get a lot of food. The problem with this restaurant is the service is so slow. It took almost 40 minutes for our food to come and we never saw the waiter again. I had to look for someone to get some extra injera and for our check. I have never spent less than 3 hours here. The food is great but you are going to wait a long time.

Very bad experience in terms of service. Last night we called them and they said "yes we are open until 10pm". We got to the restaurant by 8:52pm and we were told that the kitchen has been closed and we are not serving now. My point was that if we call you then the restaurant should advertise and mention that they are open until 9pm and NOT 10pm. I drove 45 miles to eat Ethiopian food here, Ill never go back.

Tabor is the name of mountain found in Hawassa Ethiopia. Tabor restaurant is also highest and valuable in Baltimore city and service is always special. The owner treats awesome , every time I visit to eat Ethiopian historical and cultural food. most of spices and ingredients are imported from Ethiopia. I can suggest any body interested to test Ethiopian food go to Tabor Restaurant!!

The food was really good! We got the Key Wot, Special Tibs, and Lega Tibs. All three were beef dishes but each was so unique in its flavor and richly spiced. Portions were good sized. The staff is very kind and helpful. It is customary to eat with your hand in Ethiopia, so be ready for that.

Ordered the veggie 7 combo to share with a friend. There was enough injera for both of us, and all the entrees were delicious. The food was also very reasonably priced: $11.99 for the combo that was enough food for 2 people.
