I used to love going to the Hunan Best Restaurant, I would always go there with my friend. The food is alright, but the customer service is awful. I went there yesterday, wanting to dine in, but the owner angrily shouted that the last time that I dined in, I didnt tip well( That day the meal was $15 and I tipped $3), so if I couldnt give a better tip now, I couldnt dine in and I had to take out. I felt really humiliated and so was my friend. I thought it was ridiculous, getting so angry over tips! I am never going there again because I felt disrespected. If its such an obligation, why not just warn the customer of how much in tips is expected of them. I gave a sufficient amount of money in tips every time that I went there. Just because I was short on money that day, I couldnt dine in anymore? They certainly just lost many customers because I will tell everyone I know that they refused two 16 years old to dine in because of tips.

If you like shrimp toast and you like bland fried rice, this is your resturant. Otherwise, stay the hell away. Their wonton soup tastes like watery chicken broth with wontons that have been cooked too long and wouldnt be flavorful even if they werent. Their vegetarian non-chicken Kung Pao is inedible as my girlfriend will attest to. Their Black Bean Scallops are OK but nothing to write home about, and they butcher (read dont put any filling) Crab Rangoons. After getting charged an extra $10 for my order which I did not realize until after receiving and signing for it, their wonton soup sprouted a mysterious leak and put half of the bland broth in my front hallway. Do not order from this place.

I went there because of some web site had good reviews. I think those were written by the cook/owner. I love good Chinese food and I can tell you with 100% certainty, this is NOT the one... Food is simply terrible, taste bad, bland and all other bad stuff. Top of that, they didnt even give us rice which I didnt know until I got home. Stay away if you know whats good for you. If you are looking for good Chinese food, I recommend Chopstix on Muddy Branch or Hong Kong in Germantown and no, I dont work for them... I wouldnt even give them one star if I had a choice... sorry.. xP

I ate at Chinese restaurants fairly often and this is one of the better restaurant in Gaithersburg. Hunan Best has the best Steamed and Pan Fried Dumplings. Their spring rolls also have good taste. I recommended the General Tsos Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, and Beef with Broccoli. Their soup is only so-so except for Egg Drop. If you like home style Chinese then this is the place to go,

My kids and I have been going to this restaurant for years. Great food. Nice people. My son has since moved away from this area, but always MUST dine at this restaurant whenever he is in town. He has loved the General Tsos Chicken since he was a kid, and my favorite is the crispy eggplant. My husband loves the Peking duck. Something for everybody.

I got food delivered from Hunan Best, I am not happy with the rice. I upgraded my white rice and asked for fried rice. I thought the man charged a good $2s for it. What I had before me was white rice with soy sauce mixed into it. Tish

Adequate meal; lunch special: Hot & Sour Soup, Spring Roll, Kung Pao Chicken with Fried Rice -- $5.95. Usually quiet, and must apparently rely on take-out business.

I got "Spicy Beef w/ Garlic" no hints of spice or garlic. Extremely bland. 3 stars because the owner seems to be a nice fellow. Wouldnt return though.
