First and only time here, so far. Will definitely come back and will add this place to my list of good places to eat! The service was excellent and the staff were very personable. I thought the ribs were really good. Pulled pork sandwich was standard, but good. North Carolina vinegar sauce was good. Collards were spiced up and very good! Fried pickles were also very good, as was the accompanying horseradish sauce. Scalloped potatoes looked really good, but over-spiced with something, maybe thyme? Didnt really like the dish because of this. "Smoke" was there in the food, for me at just the right amount - the smoke" did not overwhelm the food like some other places do. You can tell the difference between beef & chicken, and not just a generic smoked meat taste.

Very nice staff, BUT I dont think Ive ever been more ripped off for an expensive meal than this. Went a long way to pick up. The lamb platter contained just enough to cover my open palm. The 20 dollar half rack, while tasty according to my guest, was shockingly small. My pulled pork bbq sandwich was similarly inadequate for the price, but worse was that it was a gooey composite of who knows what. The mac and cheese side used the new Kraft tasteless cheddar. My order for large fries was not even in the bag. The corn bread was 1 square inch. Crowning this was the cole slaw serving for the $20 rack was in a tiny plastic cup that held exactly on tablespoon. Some things are just wrong!

Look, I dont enjoy ripping restaurants apart on the web. But the food here is just plain bad. While I know not to expect really great BBQ from a joint in Bethesda MD, or most anywhere in DC for that matter, near everything here was either overcooked or tasteless. The brisket was just insultingly bad. It was chewy, over salted, over cooked, and reminded me of something I might get from the lunch ladies in grade school. The ribs had no smoke flavor, with absolutely no smoke ring and were dry and overcooked, with a typical bbq sauce smother job to cover the lazy cooking. The service was great and the place had a cool vibe, but I just cant get over how bad the meats were. Just terrible.

Big disappointment. Meager portion of brisket was uniformly limp and grey with no sign of pink and the au jus they insist on slathering over it ruined what would have been at best a mediocre sandwich. Pulled pork and pulled chicken were tasteless and bland. Sauces uninspired, particularly what they call North Carolina BBQ. The potato salad was nice - creamy and fresh with bacon bits and no sign of sweetness it but it wasnt enough to save an overpriced and underwhelming meal. The service is surly and slow. Red Hot and Blue is still a better bet - cheaper and better.

I ordered a spinach salad with salmon. It tasted and smelled like rubber. The salmon was so over cook and rubbery I couldnt pick it up with a fork. I had to use my fingers to break a piece apart and it literally bent in my hand instead of flaking like salmon should. I couldnt eat it. I had to tie it in a bag because the rubber smell was so strong. At least they have decent sauce. Wont be ordering here again.

I came for lunch and enjoyed the BBQ pulled chicken and the coleslaw. The coleslaw was particularly good! It wasnt overly creamy or sweet and had a nice bite to it. I could have eaten a healthy portion of it beyond the small amount that came with the sandwich. I had the mac and cheese as a side and it was also good. I definitely want to come back, perhaps for a BBQ platter for takeaway.

Bland chicken with no smokey flavor. The brisket was dry but also looked and tasted like the frozen cheesesteak meat you would buy at the grocery store. The mac and cheese was flavorless. Portion sizes were also fairly small. The sauce was average, but they gave us a laughably small amount for takeout. I would choose any other BBQ place than returning here.

Wheres the smoke? The ribs and the pulled pork had no smoke flavor and certainly no smoke ring. The brisket was slightly better but still no smoke. Sauce was needed to provide flavor to all of the meat. My advice as a Q aficionado...more rub and lots more smoke. On the plus side the coleslaw and greens were very good.

Pretty much go to Smoke BBQ for the mash potato bowl at least once a week it seems. Also use them for catering once a month for the office and they always deliver a good meal with the pulled pork sandwiches. Jim is easy going, funny, and attentive which is a tough combination to pull off in the food and beverage industry!

I got down on a sliced brisket plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. Just came from TX and havent tried BBQ here yet, but the meat was moist, and the sides/sauces had the right amount of flavor and kick. Atmosphere felt like Austin, the people were welcoming and the service was on point. I will come here again.

If youre in Bethesda and want BBQ this is the place to go. The pulled pork platter or the sandwich is a safe pick. The mac--n-cheese and BBQ beans are grrat sides. Cornbread is a bit dry and Im not sure what theyre trying to do with their coleslaw. I like my coleslaw a bit sweet and this is just not good.

Get the Fried Green Tomato BLT when you can because it sells out fast! Been here so many times and I finally just ate one. It was the BOMB! The bartenders make amazing infusion too which the mixtures are homemade, I believe. They also have great draft beer on tap.

Fantastic food, even better beer. Smoker in the back is constantly cranking so the food is fresh and delicious. Sauce is wonderful. The thing I would recommend the most though? A nice bourbon or rye over their smoked ice. Perfect addition to any meal had here.

Dont order delivery. They take FOREVER. The 4 times Ive ordered for them its been greater than 90 minutes! Right now Im counting and its been 100 min. That seems excessive for a place thats about a mile away. Food is tasty though.

Small portions. Mac and cheese had no flavor. It was extremely bland. Ribs where burnt pretty bad. They throw sause over it to mask it. This place is closer to me but Ill drive to caterque or monks before ever coming back here.

This is my favorite spot in Bethesda. Not that Im a BBQ expert, but i love the ribs and sides. Great value and outstanding, friendly service. Good selection of craft beers, including local brews.
