The semi-literate, quantity-conscious diners who are giving this restaurant poor reviews should stick to their more typical haunts, like perhaps Olive garden or Cracker Barrel. This place has delicious food, and thanks to attentive service at the bar from Winnie, fabulous martinis. I mean PERFECT! The folks complaining about it being loud, or an obnoxious bar "croud" (sic) apparently are used to the quietude of a brown-bag lunch in the library stacks or an evening in front of the TV at home with the TV on mute as this place is on par with any other reasonable restaurant settig and makes for thoroughly enjoyable dining.

Ambiance is about the only nice thing about this place. Impolite and unfriendly owner/waitress, made us move from an empty table at 10:30 p.m., then got snippy about our drink orders. We ordered four drinks and we were charged $75 - meaning they overcharged my credit card by $20. I called them to ask about the charge and got no reply, so I had to call my credit card company and go through their restitution process. Seems like the owner wishes her place was actually Elaines in NYC, but the days when people go in for bad service, haughty attitudes and overpriced food and drinks are over. Just ask Elaine.

One star is generous-- if I could give it a zero, I would! Way back in the day Katahdin was fantastic-- fun atmosphere, great comfort food and excellent value, but now . . . . sigh. I thought that a new location might mean improvement, but it has just hit rock bottom. Food is mediocre at best and so outrageously priced particularly for the portions. Service was slow, and the atmosphere . . . whoever decorated this place clearly has no taste, just like the food. Dont even bother-- you will regret it!

The food is occasionally outstanding but – especially given the price – the negatives outweigh that ten to one: inconsistent food, limited menu, loud and annoying regular crowd at the bar – egged on by the bartender –sloppy service, rickety furniture, grad-student-apartment decor...did I mention that the napkins smell funny? Portland is a great town for food and there are literally dozens of better places for your dollar. Im local, I eat out, I know food. Trust me, this is not where you want to go...

Bartender was slow and unfriendly to both our group and the couple next to us who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Drinks were lousy and ridiculously overpriced. When we were finally seated the food was uninspired and luke warm at best. Staff gave us attitude when we brought this to their attention. Chef/Owner came out and was pathetically hostile and a complete joke. Dont waste your time. So many better places to go in Portland.

This is by far the worst restaurant in Portland. What I guess is regular bar croud were loud and obnoxious. The food was so so, but the wait between courses was rediculous. We had to leave our dinner early in order to make our show. With so many choices in Portland Ill cross this on off this list.

The service is amazing. Food is definitely 5star restaurant quality. Drinks are definitely worth the money and then some. Friendly atmosphere with a bar tender / owner that takes the time to get to know u and make u feel welcome and appreciated. Would recommend this location to anyone 100 times over.

Beautiful place. We had a crab fritter appetizer which was delightfully crispy but could have been crabby-er. Then we split a fish special which was fantastic - perfectly wood-fire grilled over amazing risotto. Service was good - maybe a little over-eager, but Ill take that in this day and age.

Katahdin was amazing. We went during happy hour. Bartender was fantastic. The appetizers we had were incredible, especially the dumplings and the shrimp. I was pregnant at the time and they made me wonderful mocktails without even having to ask. Great ambience and music to boot.

Solid wood-fired grill food seafood, meat, burgers. Outstanding cocktails, with a side-car. Friendly patrons and staff. Off the beaten track next door to Portland Stage and out the back door of the Westin Hotel.

Lovely restaurant and bar in the heart of Portlands arts district. Staff are super fun and Winnie, bartender and co-owner, is a fantastic mixologist and conversationalist. I highly recommend Katahdin!

I went to Kathadins last night before the theatre. The food was delicious and the staff were wonderful. I have no ideas where those bad reviews are coming from.

The food was amazing. The service was great! We sat at the chefs table and we tasted everything on the menu, it was expensive, but TOTALLY worth it.

It is a sad sign in a restaraunt when you see the chef yelling at their staff. Maybe they shouldnt have her near the dining room.
