Some of the best Indian food Ive had! Ive been here tons of times and its fantastic every time. It is a small and quaint place, so if youre looking for a big business fast paced type of restaurant, then it might not be for you. It feels very cozy. But I enjoy that. The servers are casual and not overly attentive, but again all I really care about is good food. I feel as if a lot of the reviewers are simply not understanding the fact that there are some cultural differences at play. America is one of the few places that have such peppy and overbearing servers at restaurants, when you travel elsewhere the waiters/waitresses usually leave you alone unless you need something. Id prefer it that way anyway. That being said, the staff here IS quite friendly, you just have to know how to talk to them. As Im kind of a regular now the main gentleman that works there always jokes with me and remembers my order. Also I love that they are very vegan friendly! Most anything can be made vegan easily. The food is very authentic, delicious, and affordable. No complaints at all.

I went here with my boyfriend a couple of days ago to Introduce him to Indian food. We walk in and the only one who appeared to be working there, a man in an old T-shirt and jeans, points to our seat from across the room. We both order Guinesses but got some sort of pale beer (the man did not know what a Guiness was, though it was on the drink menu). The lunch specials and the dinner specials have the same name but different ingredients. The "host" appeared under dressed, did not understand much of what we said, and barely acknowledged us except to take our orders. The food came and did not contain the ingredients described on the menu. The food tasted off and both of our dishes (lamb and chicken, respectively) differed only slightly by the color of the sauce. I had a $25 certificate to apply to the meal, when it came back to me, the receipt was rounded up to the nearest dollar, so it wasnt really $25 off. I went here once before about 8 years ago and had a great experience. I will not go again and would not recommend it to anyone.

I ordered a lunch special over the phone to pick up. The old man on the other end of the line kept trying to up-sell me to the dinner portion. I had to refuse more than once. Then he kept asking, "What else?" "I just want the lunch special", I said. "Not even bread? You arent going to get anything else?", he said. "Is that a problem!?" I asked. Rude. When I came to pick up and pay, he made a comment that I was paying with "big money", a $20 bill. It came to $8.51 after tax. He gave me only $11 back and kept the change. I can understand if it were a couple pennies or something, but 49 cents? I just walked out, not wanting to get in an argument over 49 cents. I open the bag, and I have a measly cup (literally one cup) worth of vegetable korma and a container of rice. So, I basically just paid $9 for horrible service and a cup of basmati rice. It has been a few years since Ive been there. I remember it not being bad, but I am never going back again and I recommend people go somewhere else.

I came in at 5PM with my two children with no other customers in the place and it took 35 minutes for our food to come out. The waiter didnt offer an apology or anything. When I mentioned that the food had taken a long time (and my kids were getting very restless at this point) all he said was that it was because the rice had not been ready. I found that curious because several take out orders had been filled before we received our food. We did receive your bread (greasy and the oil smelled old) well before our curries so we had cold bread with our curries. The food was sub-par. Cold papadam, greasy over-salted entrees, dirty utensils, no soap in the bathroom, gross toilet. Its too bad because we love Indian food. We will stick to Brunswicks Sheer Punjab which has always been flawless whenever we go.

Hadnt had Indian in ages! Went there for dinner. They didnt have Palaak Paneer, but they had plenty of other Palak choices. We had Palak Aloo, Daal Malika, Chicken Tikka Masala and, of course, Raita and Garlic Naan. Asked for medium on the heat spectrum. Came with a large bowl of fluffy basmati rice and a tray of three condiments (a spicy chutney, regular chutney, tamarind). ALL of it was DELICIOUS and the servings generous. Even though there were three of us, we packed up leftovers (that if we are not piggy) will make a nice lunch for two of us. Oh, and the naan? To die for! We ordered extra!!!

Do not eat here. Worst Indian food in Maine. Horrendous service; five tables with 2 waitresses and a hostess and the order taking was tedious, the questions from the wait staff repetitive and when the table beside me was delivered the wrong dish, the hostess spent too much time blaming the kitchen and only offered them the correct sauce to add to the delivered dish. Really? One guest at the table asked how the dish would taste with the additional sauce. They hostess shrugged her shoulders, implying she had no idea. She was, of course, sure to mention that the dishes were the same price. Ugh.

I went in here and ordered some chicken kebab and briryani. The biryani tasted so weird and I just had to abandon it. I told the waiter it is stale and he wouldnt take it back !!! The cooks who were inside came out and I was shocked to see them. I almost felt like puking the kebab I had eaten earlier. They appeared like they havent showered in days and one of them was licking his hands and the other rubbing his arm pit. I cant believe this is place is not shut down for safety reasons.

This is a great place for Indian food. The service was cheerful and attentive, and all of the food was delicious. We had the vegetarian sampler appetizer, the chicken tikka masala, the chicken vindaloo, a mango lassi, and butter naan- all delicious! The only thing I would change is that next time Id order a medium + or hot spice level rather than medium, but I think its better to err on the side of caution the first time you choose how hot youd like your food! Id definitely eat here again.

Okay so its Feb. 2017 and Hi Bombay is under new management/ownership. And boy, does it ever show. The taste of the food, the quality and friendliness has all gone up while the wait time has gone down. They still play Bollywood movies inside and the tables are the same, thank god. I absolutely love this place. They serve the best Indian food in the city for sure. Ive tried every other Indian restaurant and nothing compares. The new Hi Bombay is the way to go!

It would not be my first pick for Indian cuisine. It was average. When I went with my boyfriend, the waitresses were sitting in a booth behind us just talking amongst each other. We originally thought that they were other customers but eventually one of them came over to take our order. It was a little awkward, no one really checked on us or asked to refill our water. I would go somewhere else before going back here.
