Small, cozy, old building. Kinda funky, this is not your crisp and new suburbanite shoppe--nope, this has character with old, exposed brick walls, minimalist décor, black tables and chairs. COME HERE FOR CHOCOLATE AND FOR BOOZE! Decadent, delicious, delightful, moist, bittersweet chocolate. We had whiskey cake and a flourless confection--both were terrific. The wine list is incredible--peons will be content with the happy hour (4-6) house wines, and snobs will find bottles for thirty to $125 that should be adequate. But, go with a cocktail--their specialty! My wife said (and I agree) that her limoncello martini was the best cocktail shes ever had...it had plenty of lemony bite, balanced by some sweetness but not all syrupy sugariness. Their beer list is decent--I tried the ginger beer, which was zesty, and at 4.8% had a nice little alcohol presence. Ill look for this beverage again--it made a great balance to the chocolate delights. (Unhopped, so its really more of a ginger-ale for adults tho technically itsa beer!) NOT WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY: theres an 8 or 9-inch step up.

This is a hybrid/niche spot that is friendly comfortable and hidden in plain sight. It is where you want to go after you have a nice meal at a nice restaurant. You need to skip that next drink and the desert so you can take an invigorating walk. Wharf Street is in the absolute heart of the old port and in the middle of Wharf Street is the Bar of Chocolate. Listen, I know the owners and they do a great job with the atmosphere, the service, the drinks (lots of martinis but I usually have a glass of wine) and the DESERTS. Two reasons they did not get 5 stars, I know them, so you the reader will discount my review and, I rarely give out 5s. If I give you a five, you have no incentive to improve. Wonderful warm place. Go, find it.

Holy chocolate, Batman! If you are a chocolate lover then you cannot miss this place. The cake isnt cheap but it is worth every crumb. One star deducted for the unfortunate acoustics that make it a very noisy place, the conversations just echo back and forth making it quite loud during busy times. I went here my first night in Portland and my friend and I wanted to get cake to go the next night but they do not do to go. We were pretty sad, but they absolutely dont do to go. So bring some ear plugs and come have delicious chocolate cake.

I come for the peanut butter martini! Cant knock it til you try it. Homemade PB liqueur. Martinis are reasonably priced, as are the deserts. Cant take deserts to go, but they are worth the stay in. So yummy. There is something here for everyone. Cozy atmosphere, great location in the heart of the Old Port. I always try to start my nights out here. It is a little busier now than it was when I first decided to try out the bar. May sometimes need to wait. Not a lot of room in this tiny bar. There are two restrooms which is great as well.

We didnt eat here. After we drove across town, couldnt find parking, and walked in the rain to obtain dessert... The woman told me, "we dont do to-go, otherwise we would sell-out." This statement may be something you list on your WEBSITE/FB, if thats your POLICY. Nevertheless, we didnt stay because (a) you were rude; (b) every restaurant does to-go - even the fanciest most upscale restaurants; and (c) I wasnt going to be forced to sit and eat somewhere when I was spending MY money.

Service was absolutely terrible. I have never felt so bad having to make an order from someone whos JOB it is to take orders. I am planning a bday for my mother who absolutely loves chocolate but am skeptical as to whether advise her to go here for dessert. My visit was a year ago or so and am hoping the staff has changed or has been trained to deal with customer service properly. Such a shame bc the dessert and drinks are delicious.

I dont go out on the town very often, or ever to be honest. My friends asked me to go out with them and I said yes. This was the first place of the evening and I had a blast! I have a super sweet tooth and loved the variety of their dessert options. They also had a pretty impressive martini list. I will definitely be visiting again!!

They will NOT let you get any of their desserts to-go. I really wanted to have a slice of the chocolate amaretto cake but take it back to the place where we were staying and way told "we dont do that. We only make a few things here. Too bad". Theres at least 12 food items on the menu. Not going back.

The dessert was amazing, but the service was lousy.... I had a question/complement for the owner and she didnt seem to have a second to chat.... we were the only ones besides a couple at the bar. The waiter was really BLA!! so, if you dont care how you are treated than you might like this place.

ALWAYS a crowd-pleaser. Get the Chocolate Peanut butter Martini, the infuse their own peanut butter vodka, YUM! ***NOTE*** this is not a quick place to get a dessert bite, it takes a little bit to get your food/drinks, but the atmosphere is more than pleasurable for a relaxing after dinner affair.

Only go here if you enjoy delicious house-made desserts (not just chocolate), big fun martinis (esp peanut butter), cozy atmosphere for conversation, friendly service, and reasonable prices. :-) Great after-dinner experience on an otherwise quiet Sunday night. Wish we had one in our city!

I came here with my BFF MEG and we had cocktails they were so strong and delish and the staff was really friendly, sometimes annoying rowdy drunk groups will come in here and stink up the joint, but overall a really nice atmosphere.

Funky little bar with delicious coffee drinks and great (chocolate) desserts. One of the few bars Ive seen that serves absinthe - didnt try one of the cocktails but they definitely had an interesting selection.

When my wife and I go out, this is our place to get dessert and a drink after dinner. It is rather small and can be difficult to get a seat. Actually, dont go here. Its got enough people already ;-)

Fabulous! We had a couple glasses of wine, cheesecake, blueberry pie, chocolate bourbon pecan cake and, to top it off, a lil absynthe. Our server was fabulous. A great spot!

Try the Peanut Butter Martini. This place had awesome martinis and great dessert. A little on the pricey side, but well worth it. Awesome first date spot.

If you love someone take them here for deserts and drinks. This is my favorite little place to go for a a drink on date night. They also serve absinthe.

The drinks were strong but not very tasty. The deserts were good but not great. I expected better from the pictures, and was slightly disapointed.

Cant beat the $10 martinis. Theyre to die for and worth every penny. The cucumber tea sandwiches are a great snack before hitting the cobblestones.
