From my first visit to my most recent, and all of them in between, Fiddlehead has never disappointed. I have never once had to wait for the table I reserved, the service is always awesome, and the Manager/Owner/Hostess always does everything she can to make sure everyone in your party leaves with good things to say. The food is truly inventive comfort food, fresh and local, and the cocktails are consistently *perfect*. To the reviewer who gave a poor rating based on a noisy dining party, and assumed that is "just the scene", I have to disagree. The atmosphere and noise level are lively, but its a great conversation spot. Just because one table had a bit much fun one night, and the staff didnt quiet them, please dont assume this place is loud or in any way like a "sports bar". If they bothered you, maybe you should have spoken up, to the offending party directly. Why would we assume the establishment would quiet them, especially if they hadnt received any complaints? I defend simply because this place is my favorite, and I hope that no one denies themselves the pleasure of checking it out, due to a misguided review. Also, a word to the wise, they usually tell you up front when you make your rez to be on time or to call, because they will not hold your table if you are late.

My girlfriend, Dorinda and I had the wonderful experience of dining at The Fiddlehead Restaurant in Bangor recently. The lovely restaurant co-owner, Laura met us at the door, showed us to our window front table. Laura provided us a detailed description of the cuisine, libations and overall restaurant philosophy, including the source of the table fare. The experience was fabulous including the wine selection of a nice bottle of Old Vine Zinfandel, cornbread and molasses, a spicy fresh vegetable soup, a grilled hearts of romaine salad, lobster spring rolls, tuna entre and a unique fruit sorbet for dessert. Laura and our server were excellent to interface with and their personalized service left us feeling special and appreciated as patrons. Our personnel review of the exquisite cuisine, extensive beverage selections. courteous professional service and comfortable atmosphere will all be passed on to our friends, family, business associates and others that we know appreciate fine dining experiences.

My wife and I had a reservation to celebrate her birthday, we were running a few minutes late. I get a call on my cell phone at 6:35pm, our reservations were for 6:30pm. "Are you still planning on coming?" "Yes, we will be there in 5 minutes," I replied. So we get there in 5 minutes and the hostess gave our table to someone else. WTF???!!!?? She asked us to take a seat at the bar and wait for a table, we declined and opted for another restaurant. The hostess, who I believe was also the general manager, tried to explain that it wasnt their fault, they book things tight, so we really needed to be on time. WTF?????!!?? To quote Jerry Seinfeld, "you seem to know how to TAKE a reservation, but you dont seem to know how to HOLD a reservation...and its really the HOLDING thats the important part." If youre looking for a lot of attitude, this might be the place for you. If you would like a pleasant evening out without a lot of BS I would seek alternative fare.

I walked into fiddleheads under the impression that I had finally found a fine dining place in downtown Bangor. I truly wanted this to be true because my boyfriend and I havent taken a brake from work for months and we finally came to the conclusion that we needed to take a little time off for just the two of us. Turns out, this place ruined our special evening. The food was awful. Trying to bite into the lobster grilled cheese was harder than chewing through a rubber shoe. WAY OVER COOKED. It also had little to no flavor. The mint/cucumber lemonade had so little lemon taste, I thought I was drinking listerine. The pork was nasty. It was pink and slimy. Lastly, the service was dreadful. Waiters would walk past your table, noticing your empty plates, but not get them. And a refill of water had to be asked for. Over all, this place is way too over priced. Dont waste your time.

It was my first time there and the prices were way to high and very small food and I ordered a med burger i cut it in half and it came very rare they said they would send it back and cook it again they just seared it on the halfs I cut and it came back the same as before . By than my friends were almost done eating and the manager came over and asked if they could cook it again or a new one I said no thank u because I didnt want to make my friends wait for a new burger to be done and I was upset they just seared it on the cut halfs and did not even bother to cook it again . When I say I dont want a new one Im fine the manger walks off and says to the waitress " shes still paying for it" loadly effort for me to hear. I didnt even take a bite of it or did I even mention I wanted it to be free. It was insulting. I will never go back or recommend that place to anyone.

I just tried to order a gift certificate from Fiddleheads in Bangor. I am driving up from Portland on Sunday for a very special birthday for a friend. Because I waited a very long time I didnt have time to have it mailed and they dont have anyway to get it on line. I came up this great idea to have it faxed to me. They couldnt find a way to do this because it could be duplicated even though it would be numbered. The only other solution was to leave it next door at another business if I wanted to get up earlier and drive into Bangor where I wasnt going and get up earlier to do it. From there the conversation went steadily downhill. So they gave up a $35 gift certificate plus the extra money that the people who came with my friend would have spent. I dont know any fine dining places where you can get out without spending at least $75 to $100 per couple.

A few days ago my sister and I went to dine at The Fiddlehead restaurant. When we arrived, we were not really sure what the cuisine was, so we picked up a menu off the stack of menus sitting on the hostess stand. A min or so later, the hostess( who we found out later was actually the owner) approached us and flipped out because we had picked up a menu off her "personal hostess stand" I told her that I saw nothing private on the hostess table, and didnt think it would be a problem to look at the menu. She then very rudely asked us "what time is your reservation?" I replied by asking if we needed a reservation, and she said "yes I have nothing available until 8:30." (It was 5:30) She then abruptly walked away from us, and ushered in another couple. I have NEVER been treated like this before in a restaurant. I will NOT be recommending The Fiddlehead to ANYONE!

I find it hard to believe the bad reviews. I have been dining at the Fiddlehead Resturant for 4 or 5 years, and have yet to have a bad meal or bad experience. One time I had to wait maybe 10 minutes for my table, and Laura, the owner, gave us free drinks. Speaking of Laura, she is always the one to greet me with a friendly attitude, comes over to fill the water glasses and chat, and generally pops over now and then to ask how everything is going and make small talk. The service is always excellent, and the food. Omygosh! So delicious!! They have a waffle and chicken dish that is mouthwatering, and I recently had a scall op entree that was perfection. By far, my favorite restaurant in Bangor for the food, service, and ambiance.
