Let me start by saying I dont think I have ever had a bad meal in New Orleans. I love the food, architecture, and culture of New Orleans. I stumbled on Meals from the Heart Cafe on an early Sunday morning so it wasnt too busy. The gentleman working behind the counter was such a great person. He told me of his experiences in my hometown of Chicago and told me when is the right time to visit the city, what trains I can take to visit the garden district, the history of po boys and so much more. He embodies the spirit of New Orleans. His sister owns the cafe and oh my the food was delicious! Not only did it taste good but it is good for you. I didnt feel sluggish and ready to fall into a food coma. I felt energized and ready to take on the day. I plan on going back to New Orleans frequently and this cafe is one I will dine at every time I go. I love what it stands for and I love the food. You cant go wrong here.

Eating in New Orleans posed as a challenge for my best friend, who has extremely sensitive celiac disease. These ladies and their amazing chefs took the time to make sure her food was prepared without any sort of cross contamination and truly cared about her well-being. I couldnt have been happier to have found a place that caters to a gluten free lifestyle, and actually follows procedures to ensure that people like my best friend leave with a happy and full stomach. Thank you so much for being just an overall great establishment. Next time we are in town we will absolutely stop in. I recommend this to everyone who wants to eat delicious , hearty portions of food that are truly made from the heart.

I read that the po-boy gluten free crab cake was amazing so that is what I ordered. However, it is served on gluten free toasted bread not po-boy. The bread was good just not what I expected. The actual crab cakes were the best I have ever had - gluten free or not. My husband isnt a fan of crab cakes but tried mine and agreed they were very good. I would order them again but on a bed of greens. The salad looked delicious. I had steamed Vegas as my side and they were fresh and cooked perfectly. My husband had the gumbo - very good! We will definitely go back.

Spectacular experience every time. The food is amazing here, I recommend for wonderful vegan cuisine. I honestly am so relieved to come here and find a place that has amazing, fresh, and healthy food that is also vegan and that offers a breakfast, lunch, and dinner option for everyone. The staff is extremely friendly and I leave this place feeling full and refreshed. I especially recommend the vegan gumbo and the vegan crab cake po boy. They will seriously blow you away, vegans and non-vegans alike. I recommend completely

This was honestly my favorite place I ate in New Orleans. I went with a friend who has celiacs disease and the staff were so helpful and careful when it came to preparing gluten free food. Everything is made with fresh organic ingredients and a good portion of their menu is gluten free. I got the black bean soup and it was so amazing! I was originally very skeptical, but it was such a good experience. If youre vegan, gluten-free, or simply looking for a good meal check this place out!!!

First, I would like to thank Averill for her hospitality. You hear about southern hospitality, this is what you receive when you eat at Meals from the Heart. No, Im not related to Averill or Marilyn. Anyone interested in eating the best tasting and the highest quality nutritional foods while in New Orleans, needs to make a trip to the French Market area. You will not be disappointed at all. Thanks again for offering me healthful foods that I try to get when at home. Dave

This place is a lifesaver for those of us with celiac disease! And even better: they deliver. We stayed at a hotel in the French Quarter, and each morning, this wonderful food woke us up! I highly recommend their gluten-free blueberry pancakes, cheddar grits, and morning sandwich. We ordered each morning, and every bite was delicious. They also called us to check-in and make sure we were satisfied. Highly recommend!

Wonderful crab cakes! My friend loved them so much she ordered another. I got the tilapia tacos, and those were fantastic as well. All the food is local, fresh, and organic. They have a large selection of vegan and gluten free food, as well as not serving any pork. Definitely a must if you are traveling with dietary restrictions. They even gave us orange slices while we waited. Staff was very friendly!

Organic, vegan, gluten-free? They have it all. And the owner will take your order & have friendly conversation while you wait on your food. A family owned restaurant in the French Market. We went looking for an organic breakfast restaurant. We werent expecting a cafe in an open air market. My husband & I were pleasantly surprised & would highly recommend to all out friends.

I was thrilled to learn about this place because I am GF however the pancakes werent as good as I hoped or expected...which was interesting considering there is a constant line/wait to order or recieve your food (best to order ahead). Based on the popularity, perhaps their other food is better. I plan on trying their GF crabcake which Im a bit hesitant being from MD...

The food here was great, and the owners were nice. This is a place where you can get vegan or gluten-free food. We visited this place repeatedly because they have been very kind to food allergy suffers as well. We enjoyed the pancakes, the crab cake, and the oatmeal. The oatmeal came with some brown sugar, some raisins, and either walnuts or pecans all on the side.

Brilliant. If I could, I would go back if only to eat here again. And the sisters! Warm, funny, smart, welcoming...I could go on but sitting here thinking about how great it was to eat there is making me hungry; so Im going to go and eat. Take my advice (because why wouldnt you take the advice of a guy youve never met) if you find yourself in NOLA, eat here...often.
